**This review is based on a pick-up order.** I called in this order, and the lady who took the call was quick and polite. Plus, the order was correct, so she was accurate too. Always a good thing. The food, however, was a mixed bag. First, I ordered beef and snow peas (I asked for it to be spicy), and the dish was among the best I've had in a long time. The peas were crunchy; the beef was melty; and the sauce was rich -- and spicy, just as I requested. Because I don't eat a ton, I ordered the upgrade (to fried rice, wonton soup and an egg roll) to share. Meh. The broth was nice, but there really weren't wontons in it. Rather, they were ribbons of way overcooked pasta. Not a deal-breaker, but nothing memorable. The egg roll was the typical freezer-to-fryer variety. Not terrible, but hardly plump and definitely not rolled in-house like the good ol' days. Finally, the fried rice is missing something. Not only do I believe that it was never cooked in a wok, but it also had a scant flavor of sesame oil and little else. I'm not usually one to tell people how to do their business. This time is different though, since I am not the only one to mention the bland 'fried' rice here. Use some soy sauce. Use the wok -- and not the microwave. And perhaps, use an egg and a little garlic. But hey! These guys have been in business for a minute, so we 'fried' rice detractors must be in the minority. All of that to say, this place does an outstanding job with the beef and snow peas. But next time -- if there is a next time (I live in Houston) -- I'll ask for the steamed rice and dress it myself. read more

Third time ordering, twice my order was not what was ordered. First time it was fixed, I think it was an error in the order taker. This time I ordered "Pearl of the seven seas" $16.50. It's supposed to be crab shrimp scallop in sauce with baby corn and straw mushrooms. I ordered this for the reason of the mushrooms. I get it it has no mushrooms at all. It has TONS of pea pods, bamboo, celery, water chestnuts and I counted 12 pieces of seafood, like none for the size. I call and they said no, no mushroom when I'm staring at the menu I saw online and have a paper copy in front of me. There's maybe enough meat for one serving and then one serving of just veggies and a whole crap load of sauce. Do better. I won't be back, and they're 3 minutes from me! read more

Oh how the mighty have fallen....there was a time I considered Dragon Gate the best of the best! Went there for every birthday. Now? I'm not sure they are worth it at any price. Still the best egg rolls in the game and the wonton soup, when the noodles aren't boiled to death, is still great. But with each passing visit, I keep asking myself why am I returning. Nostalgia? Hanging on to a reputation that used to be? New ownership is destroying this place. They are cutting corners, raising prices and ruining recipes that stood the test of time. I was disappointed with the service during my visit. The older server became visibly upset when I did not leave a tip, snatched my plate away, and rolled her eyes. This felt unprofessional and uncomfortable. Additionally, the chicken breast was served whole instead of being cut into pieces as it normally is. This restaurant is the BEST! First of all, the ambiance is very pleasant. It is very clean and nicely decorated. The music is especially relaxing. Our waitress was SO friendly, totally efficient and attentive. The menu is extensive and THE FOOD!!! OMG! SO DELICIOUS!!! We especially enjoyed the egg rolls and the vegetable fried rice, but our entrees were also excellent. The prices are very reasonable and the portions amazing. I HIGHLY recommend Dragon Gate. We just moved to the area and we decided to check out yelp. The reviews said this was a good place to check out for Chinese Food. So glad we did. The ambiance was pleasant and reminded me of the Chinese restaurants back in Boston. The server was super friendly and helpful when we had questions about the food we were ordering. We got the Cantonese family meal for 2 . It included wonton soup,a poo poo platter with two spear ribs/ two beef teriyaki/ 2 egg rolls / crab Rangoons. - the appetizers came out HOT and they were fresh! The meats were so tender as well as the other appetizers. The main dishes came with 2 entrees and fried rice . This meal was delicious and I am a Chinese Food snob and this place checked off all my boxes. We will be coming back for sure :) - sorry no picts we devoured it read more

Dragon Gate is my favorite Chinese restaurant in all of Cleveland. The food has been flavorful for decades and they haven't skimped on portions. The service is friendly and super fast. Even after moving from Parma years ago the new location is quiet and relaxing too. Nothing fancy here, that's not needed with quality of food! read more

Small restaurant off of Pearl at 130th. Average decor but everything was clean. Server was polite and quick to check on my meal. Nice. I had the empress chicken combination and added wanton soup and fried rice to bump it to $8. Inexpensive. The chicken was cooked well (still juicy) and the sauce was delicious. I have tried this restaurant three times over the last 20 years. Each time I think that maybe it's gonna be better than the last time. Sadly, it is not. Everything tastes the same here. The soup tastes like hot salt water with very mushy wonton noodles. There is no pride of cooking happening here. The chicken almond din tastes like salted starch sauce with a few pieces of chicken and mostly plain vegetables. A few snipped up snow peapods, canned water chestnuts, and some chopped Napa cabbage stocks. Even the eggrolls are the frozen ones that they pop into the fryer. They have no fresh taste to them whatsoever. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend a thing on the menu here. Even the fried rice was hard and had no flavor. We have been ordering from Dragon Gate since they were located on Brookpark Road, which was a long time ago at this point. They never screw up an order - the food is reliably delicious, the portion sizes are always generous, it always comes exactly as you order it, and they're even kind enough to hand you a $3 or $5 gift certificate for your next visit every so often (we've received probably 4 or 5 of those by now), and that's just a very nice way for the place to thank us for our business. They're always friendly, we always feel welcome (and we always order take out, we rarely go out to eat), plus they have a drive through so you don't even have to get out of your car to pick up dinner from them. Aside from the great service and pleasant experience, the food is always awesome - the flavors are exactly right no matter what you order; whether it's General Tso chicken, Szechuan dishes or Singapore Mei Fun, everything is delicious and we always have leftovers for the next day because they are never stingy with the portions. I have been known to stretch the mei fun out over 3 meals, and it reheats very nicely. Also - the fried rice is brown (as it should be) and not yellow. This is by far the best Chinese restaurant in this area (or that I have ever personally tried) - I had just yesterday had the displeasure of eating at a very disappointing (other) Chinese place, which made me realize that I should be propping up Dragon Gate on Yelp because I was reminded that good Chinese food isn't common. If I could give them 10 stars, I would. Be sure to give them a try if you're looking for a reliably great dining experience. read more

I haven't been to Dragon Gate in a while, so I was due for a visit. The family agreed and off we went. Upon arrival, we were the only people in the joint, which I loved, especially because the food is great. The wife and I ordered the Cantonese dinner for 2, which we used to order when we were dating 15 years ago. My kids both ordered orange chicken. And it's not just orange flavored chicken, they actually use oranges and its delicious! I loved the won ton soup and the hot tea. Our Cantonese dinner was delicious and included a large portion that we ended up taking home. I miss the awesome flavor of their fried rice. It is every bit as good as I remember it. The flavor and quality of Dragon Gate is very consistent. THIS is my favorite Chinese restaurant. I give five stars. Bravo! read more

My mother told me about Dragon Gate years ago and I tried it when they were still on Brookpark. At the time I was so so on it but now I realize it was because I was used to the strip mall Chinese takeout that I had eaten for years. Which is mostly complete trash. Now that I'm older and have had a chance to sample the dying breed of actual sit down old school Chinese restaurants, I can fully appreciate this place. The food is A-1. Over the course of two visits my wife and I have tried the Hong Kong Chicken which is delicious, the sweet and sour pork and chicken, and governor chicken. Everything has been amazing. The fried rice is fresh and some of the best I've had. The egg rolls are another star but the wonton soup is hands down the best I've sampled in CLE. Our little guy loves it! The restaurant has been tastefully decorated to the point that you can't tell it was a Pizza Hut. It also has a drive through window...how convenient is that? On our two visits the service was always friendly and attentive. I'm genuinely happy because we have found a great quality Chinese restaurant that's not too far from home. I'll gladly make the drive in from Brunswick to eat here. Thank you Dragon Gate! read more
