I mean come on! What a great little English name!! So the price is steep (pun intended) if you think you're having pub food, but if you realize you're getting a real hearty and gorgeously plated meal using local produce, you might not think about the price so much. My fillet of seabass sat on top of a crab and potato cake, covered with cooked spinach and samphire, drenched in lemon butter sauce was an explosion of complementary flavours. The dish was ginormous, even at 15GBP, and even though my stomach was hardly able to take it, i gorged it without really thinking of the consequences. And sadly, the consequences were quite severe, as my coworkers started ordering dessert, and i could only sit there teary eyed, staring at the menu and coveting the Bailey cheesecake that no one ended up ordering. I did have a taste of the sticky toffee pudding and the bread and butter pudding. Yup. Fantastic. They also have blackboards of daily menus and funky little things on there like venison sausages, and tempura battered fish, etc., bringing in a lot of fusion into this traditional pub. Although the website claims that it's "homecooked meals" they're seriously professional about it. The place is small, so best to call first before going to ensure you will get seats. Again, beer garden in the summer, fireplace inside a 15th Century inn in the winter. You can't go wrong eating here.

I wouldn't have said this was in Haverhill, probably nearly 10/15 minutes outside of Haverhill…read more Nice little pub.

The location of this hotel was perfect for us because we were doing business at a local company. I liked the town-center location in a small town. We had several dinner options within walking distance including the house pub. The facility itself was quite nice as it had a vintage feel. The front lobby was hidden from view as one entered. It was nicely arranged however, with comfortable seating. The check-in was rather efficient and was accomplished at the pub cash register. We were shown to our rooms on the second level. My quarters were on the smallish side (13 square meters or 140 sq ft) but were adequate. The bathroom was likewise small but sufficient in size to function. The TV was wall-mounted and somewhat small. The choices of programming were standard. The WiFi worked without issue and the workspace was suited to purpose. The only unfortunate aspect of my room was the view. It was literally a brick wall. But the facility had some nice aspects so I could live with that. The breakfast was great. Since we pre-paid for our morning meal with the room, we could order off the menu. I had the breakfast quesadilla, which was very tasty. The room rate was pretty reasonable. My single was 70 pounds for the night with breakfast included. This was about $93 USD with the exchange rate at the time. I thought this was a good deal. On my next trip to town, it is likely I will stay here again.

At other times though the atmosphere isn't too bad and although never quiet, at least I can hear myself talk. The food is quite nice, to be honest I've only ever had snack foods here as it's not the kind of pub I'd want to spend much time in but it's ok for a quick something and a drink if i'm in the area with a bit of time to kill. The inside is pretty clean but, again on footie day, the staff cannot seem to keep up with wiping the tables and collecting glasses so it can get quite sticky quickly. The staff are fine, the White Hart does get quite busy sometimes and they manage to serve people in order and rarely have the got an order of mine wrong. My main criticism about this pub is that on every single visit I will get at least one glass that hasn't been washed properly and will have to go and get it changed. This is a shame as there is no need for it and it's not hard for staff to ensure the glasses are clean before using them.

Landlady and Landlord are nice and friendly, unfortunately some of the other barstaff could do with a public relations course. No longer a football pub as sky has gone. Food is quite good at lunchtime, but unfortunately not very well supported by local business people. Go in at lunchtime and you will probably be the pnly person there.
