Relaxing, quiet, and so many nice spots to enjoy the ponds, waterfall, spring noises of frogs, and foliage in the fall. I ride my bike or run or walk through regularly and enjoy it. I have also taken the kids to some of the mansion tours and the presentations about nature in the park building. Enjoyed those too.

The wide variety of trails and the mileage of trails is why visit here more. Dog friendly and very relaxed leash policy. Trails are pretty well maintained. Very rocky and hilly. Lots of watering holes, but most are dried up toward the middle of season. Trails are marked via painted trail markers on trees or rocks. Maps are scarce so make sure to snap a pic of one before venturing. The yellow trail from start to finish is ~9 miles alone and most trails interlink with each other. Very easy to get lost if you don't know the park. Parking is free. I usually park on Mill st where the State Forest Fire department is located, but there's probably 10+ parking areas surrounding the park including one off route 1 near Gillette. Con: terrain is tough, especially if you want to run. Also easy to get lost. I can't stress this enough. Take a pic of the map before going in the park. 4/5 stars

Ample parking and clearly marked trails made it easy to navigate. I didn't get a chance to stop in the center as the doors were locked, but the facilities look great for all Audubon does. I did forget my spray and like a novice hiker went on the vernal pool loop which had average level of bugs that accompanied me during the loop. Great place to stretch your legs, leashed pets were a no go here for planning purposes, but don't fret they are allowed at neighboring Moose Hill Farm.

Peppered between are beautiful, peaceful houses. Come on a Saturday afternoon and you'll see a team of sailboats out. Mornings, afternoons, and evenings are nothing short of delightful at Lake Massapoag. We caught 8 fish in one morning of fishing on the north side (bass and sunfish) and only one during an evening of fishing on the south side. Whatever the case, it's a beautiful place to spend some time.

The size-able parking area and bandstand serve as a great location for Independence Day festivities for the community with an old time carnival atmosphere which continues for hours leading up to the fireworks. In past times there was a railroad not far that brought Boston's movers and shakers to the lake for summer recreation. Some of the buildings from that time remain, at least partially, such as the present day senior center. Lake Massapoag is the headwater of Canoe River as well as Massapoag Brook. The Canoe River leads to Taunton River and eventually to Narragansett Bay. Massapoag Brook flows to the Neponset River which empties into Dorchester Bay. One of the more interesting wildlife facts about Lake Massapoag is that there is a species of eel which migrates up the Atlantic coast and all the way to Lake Massapoag, moving overland nocturnally during rainy nights.

Been wanting to check out these trails for a while now and today was the day. There was no clear…read moreaddress on yelp directions but it got me there correctly. There's a tiny little spot you can park right before the head of the trail but only enough for a few cars. I guess if you came and it was full you could park down the street. There is a pretty big lot there that usually has quite a few spots open. You'd have to walk a bit to the trail though. Great trail around Ponkapoag pond. My Fit bit says it was a little over 11,000 steps. Most trails are marked good. There are maps posted every so often and most have an arrow that point "you are here". I would suggest to bring a map although at the place where I started from the box holding the Maps was empty so I just took a picture of the one posted. Definitely bring bug spray! This place is loaded with bugs. I was pretty bitten up at the end of my walk. I stayed on the main trail but there were lots of small trails to go off on. I was pretty disappointed to see signage that said no bikes allowed on a lot of them though. That's a real bummer for me and my beloved mountain bike. Saw lots of beautiful birds and butterflies. Luckily I didn't run into any coyotes but just be aware that they are around. 3.5 stars.

I love the "boardwalk" - a long series of linked planks leading through the bog to the pond. So scenic and a unique off-trail walk. The trail is rocky and rolling in parts and flat in others, with a brief paved portion along the golf course. The trail also passes the YMCA camping sites and outdoors center, and is fairly well traveled in all seasons. Great place for running, dog walking and hiking.
