In the middle of the afternoon, this was a nice spot to stop for a bit in the van and get a nap. Because it was a bit rainy today, it was quiet and calm. I didn't see any of the "trouble" that Rick G. references in his review. It was nice to spend some time with nature but I'll also agree with Q B.'s review that the walking paths aren't great with the car traffic and some folks do drive way too fast. Cute little park with nice views out into the water with various benches, trails, parking spaces, etc.

According to the signs and website information the gates supposed to be closed untill10:00 week days / 12:00 weekends, yet almost every day the the AVON POLICE PUTS EVERYONE IN DANGER opening all gates before 6:00 am I guess until someone gets injured or die from beginning hit by the car nothing will change in this place. read more

On Saturday at 8 AM, I met a group of about 14 MS Challenge Walk participants for a "training walk" through this park. We walked over 11 miles by walking a series of figure 8 loops. The park trails were very scenic, passing ponds filled with lily pads and geese. There were also a few "waterfalls" where water rushed over rocks. The trails were all paved and we shared them with other walkers, cyclists, people walking dogs, a families with strollers. The path does have a section that's a hill, but for the most part, it's a pretty easy route. At one end of the park is a parking lot with 2 port-a-potties. They're great if you need a bathroom break urgently, but be sure to bring some hand sanitizer with you. Our group had walkers with many different walking speeds, so we spread out into smaller groups, but never felt isolated. I'd recommend the park to walkers & cyclists, since it seemed everyone shared the path nicely. read more

Place got better for a bit after irrigation. Very expensive! No 9 hole rate. Staff especially the maintenance crew are rude and entitles now that they work for the city. Typical Brockton cash grab. I wonder what the payroll is and what the political connections are because it obvious. Anyway the golf is just average. The fairways are a mess and the greens are always great or terrible. Someone should pay these municipal workers more or them. Better yet, hire a private company to take care of the course. These rude city workers are not doing the job. Spend your 80 dollars elsewhere! read more

This park is really a beautiful gem in this city. It's a huge park. Over 700 acres with over 7 miles of paved road. There are quite a few parking lots to park in once you get in here so don't let that first lot that fills up quick deter you. And it's free!! There's an observation tower here called Tower Hill (there's also a great local band here named after Tower Hill) but i don't think it's open to the public anymore to climb. Lots of people bring their kids here in the winter to sled. It's all one way traffic on the roads (although be careful i have seen veichles go the wrong way quite a few times) cars on the right, walkers, joggers, bikers, rollerbladers etc to the left. Bring a loaf of bread and feed the birds while your here. Just don't do it near the main entrance. $50 fine for that. I guess it was to close to the street. Lot's of park benches and picnic tables around and bird houses perched up everywhere. There are little stands that have disposable doggy doo doo bags but everytime i've looked in them they were empty so bring your own if your taking your pup. There's a golf course here too. 9 holes. There's a different lot just for that though. Amazing views stretched over the water. Great sightseeing of birds and turtles. I love this place! Just stay alert. There are some desolate spots but the police patrol it often. *edited for spelling read more

Nice park with lots of trees and beautiful pond. My only issue is that cars are allowed to drive through the park on both sides of the pond so while you're exercising or walking with your child you always have to watch out for cars! What sense does that make??? read more

I get tired of hearing people complain about D. W. Field! Usually, those who have the worst things to say about the park don't live here in Brockton or they're referencing a shooting which happened in the middle of the night over a drug deal. My husband and I raised our 2 kids here and I used to take them there to play all of the time. They loved feeding the geese and ducks, climbing up the tower and, of course, sledding every time we had snow. Brockton is the largest city I've ever lived in or near too! I'm from farm country out in the Midwest and have ZERO street sense, so that should tell you how safe I've always felt at the park. Anyhow...thumbs up to D. W. Field Park! read more

Really wish Brockton would do more to clean this park up. The park has a big looping road for walking or biking. Half Of the road is for driving and 1/2 is for pedestrians. The loop goes around a lake with swans and ducks. its a pretty little park but woman are not really safe here alone. Bring a buddy and your cell phone. Its a great mostly flat loop for running as well. 2 stars lost for the safety issue and 1 star lost because I think it could use a play ground for the kiddies. read more

"Wanna go for a walk?" - Co-Bubbles I've been here plenty times with family, friends, and (ha) ex-bfs. The times when I was a youngin' here is installed in my head. During the winter, the pond would freeze up, and turn into ice. My younger brother and I were very curious, too curious for a 6 and 5 year old. We both walked onto the frozen pond, and pretended to know how to ice skate. That didn't last long. Our older cousin spotted us, and told us to quickly come back to the walking area so we would be safe. We almost made her cry, since she couldn't find us, and when she did, we were on ice. Literally. When walking all around the whole park, it takes 1 hour and 10 minutes tops. Cars go by here, to take a short cut to Avon from Brockton, and vise versa. There are a few car parking areas through out the park. Park your car, and you can sit and chill, or start that walk. There is an area where there are some ducks and swans swim around. Sometimes, when I come here, friends and I would bring food to eat at a picnic table, and whenever we have leftovers, we feed them to the duckies. I try and make a trip out here every 3 weeks or so. Every time I come here, I'm always reminded with the best and scariest times. So nostalgic. read more

I was really surprised to see how many people were using this park after work on a Thursday! I feel like this is a big community spot in Brockton, and it's easy to see why. Follow D.W. Field Parkway around the Brockton Reservoir and Waldo Lake for a scenic, easy four-mile walk/run/ride. You'll see all types on your journey: kids, families, teens, young, old, dogs, strollers... This is a place for everyone to get outside and be active. The paved parkway is divided, a one-way loop for cars (there are pull-offs along the way where you can park if the main lot at the entrance is full) and a generous walkway for pedestrians or bike-riders. There is fishing in Waldo Lake, and there were several families taking advantage during my run. The porta-potties were a relief to see, and I echo Katie's comment on safety. The park is not lit (it closes at 9:00 p.m.), and it is heavily wooded. I felt safe jogging with a friend, and I would even feel safe jogging alone after seeing how many people were around, but use caution -- as you would anywhere. This is going to become a regular route for me to meet nearby coworkers for a training run. I highly recommend checking it out. read more

Great place to get assaulted. Went walking here once and was followed by a guy in a black hoodie and baggy pants. To make sure he was following me I took a trail that was off the beaten path, sure enough he took the same trail. I got panicked and ran back to my car. STAY AWAY UNLESS you want to be killed. read more

This park is in total decay. 1. Roads- Dangerous for walking and biking due to numerous pot holes and road erosion. 2. Trash- No one seems to use the barrels which are everywhere. Ugly plastic barrels, bent out of shape, peeling paint. 3. Parking Lots- Trash everywhere. Garden beds full of weeds and trash. Creeps hanging out and rarely a cop to be seen. 4. Dead trees- Throughout the park with some heavy dead limbs hanging right over the roads and walkways. Dangerous. 5. Park Gates- Broken or not locked so people simply open them when the park is closed and drive around, sometimes the wrong way. 6. Dogs- people let their dogs poop all over, sometimes in the middle of the road. When the park is closed, people go in, let their dogs loose even though the sign says dogs must be leashed at all times. If you have a dog that isn't dog friendly, don't go here. read more

D.W.!! Oh the joke material you've provided me with over the years. And oh the childhood memories of sledding down the hill. It's a beautiful little park, really startling to come across in Brockton. Don't go there after dark. Just....just don't. Also I've suspected for a long time that the lake is filled with bodies. But it's a really pretty place during the day. I used to walk for a bit there on my lunch break when I worked in the area, and twice I got followed and felt really unsafe, and one time some dude approached my car and got mad when I wouldn't roll down the window. I wouldn't go there alone, or at night, but it's a nice place for a group of people. read more

A little piece of heaven in the city. I love this place! Of course everyone always questions my love for DW, but why?! They think it's unsafe here...they think the park is full of creepo's, and crime...NO WAY! I've been walking here for a few years alone, just me and my dog, and we have met great people here. Usually you will see the same friendly faces over and over again. It's a great place to go for a walk, enjoy the view, feed the ducks with the kiddies, and just be one with nature. I love seeing everyone using the park in a productive way. It truly is amazing here. You may drive through, and think it's nothing special, but until you get out of your car, and explore the park with your own two feet you won't know how truly special it really is. read more

I guess if your not from around here or grew up near and didn't ever visit DW as a kid to go sledding in the winter at the hill by the tower or fishing at one of the ponds in the summer then you see it as a "trash bucket" or a place to be killed/abducted versus the true beauty areas DW does have. I come here in the spring with my kids every weekend to do the fun runs the schools put together. It is s great walk for us as a family and you meet great people that also has families and young kids. I bring the kids here in the summer to ride their bikes or just to walk around. If you mind your business and keep to yourself then like if anywhere else you'll be fine. Obviously it's ok to say hello to others walking pass by or if yes you see some criminal crazy activity (which can go down at any park. Our state forest that is in Taunton, Fall River ect don't tell me there's never a sketch ball there or weird things haven't ever happened) DW is closed after certain hours and for that reason. So people can't dump bodies or the idiots who think it's safe to run through a dark, secluded park alone at 12:30-1:00 am. This parks literally open from sun up to sun down. It's daylight the whole time and typically fairly busy enough that there's going to be a car or other person running, walking, biking ho by you every couple minutes. I doubt a person would have a chance to attack here if they tried. Unless there's some idiot that feels to run into some made up trail that others don't even go to for various reasons due to it ends no place but in woods or it looks like a trail at entering but just trees ect made it appear as there was some dirt trail into the woods. Who knows. I have no issues ever here and wouldn't ever feel unsafe walking in broad daylight here alone especially on those main paths everyone travels. read more
