The standards for the advanced courses at The Vodder School appear to have declined over the years.
The most recent Advanced Neck/Face course in Toronto (June 8--10) did not meet the standards that were expected. More than 80% of the students were unfamiliar with the basic sequences for neck & face and some students were definitely incompetent to perform MLD on anyone else in the class. Advanced students love to converse with other students about "What would you do in this particular situation?" Talk about different approaches to situations that involve more post-cosmetic surgeries, for example.
Advertising for the advanced course states that everyone should have the basic sequence for neck/face memorized. However, The Vodder School does not enforce their own standards and allow the student from the basic course, taken one week before, to take the advanced course. That is fine; however, advanced students should be informed and be able to opt out of the course because it is still BASIC.
Don't worry my fellow classmates; there is an alternative to The Vodder School. Check out Advanced Spa Therapy Education Certification (ASTECC). Anne Bramham runs the programs. Sometimes there are courses that involve actual "patients" who have real-life problems that can be helped with MLD. Very informative and ADVANCED (and... the patients have to pay too to be patients ). ASTECC is starting to do more courses in BC and ON - not just in the US.
