In fact, it's as if you are there to do what she tells you to do. Avoid dealing with her if you choose this school! They also do not give adequate instruction on how to book the appointment to get the driving test and then freak out if you do it. I would not advise buying the highest level package, as it's basically too much for a teenager to complete and it's very expensive. The one positive is that their driving instructors are good. However, if you are sensitive to fragrance at all, you need to beware. Some of the instructors clean their cars with perfumed products. Joan will claim they have "fragrance free" cars for 10 yrs. THEY DO NOT! Wayne G is an instructor that seems to keep his car fragrance free.

After passing them in the left lane they pulled in behind me on an icy snowy road and proceeded to tail gate me for miles until I was able to safely change lanes. They certainly don't believe in the 2 second rule. So if they don't make the car safe before driving it & then don't drive it in a safe manner I don't think you can expect them to teach you or your family to be safe and responsible drivers. Use them at your own peril.

They closed the Victoria location during COVID without ANY notice to those that paid up front. I received a letter from ICBC eight months after their closure. This was the first time I heard about it, as we were only told lessons were suspended due to COVID (this was from the driver and not from Young Drivers). I phoned for a refund which was a huge ordeal just getting through to anyone. When I finally got through was refused a refund as it was past the one year mark that I could request a refund!! No responsibility was taken on their behalf that they closed the school with no notice. After pushing I was given a head manager's email - sent the email and no response (zero). Off to Better Business Bureau who opened a dispute. Young Drivers came back with the same explanation - I had one year to request a refund and they did not take any responsibility for their part in it (suspended lessons and closing the school with no notice provided). Dispute was closed with no resolution. Consumer be aware. Young Drivers of Canada is not the good guys they portray themselves to be! Do not invest your money in them!

I checked back occasionally to see if there was a change which there has not been. When I emailed asking for a refund it was refused because of when I initially paid for my package. I had a delay due to an injury hat had unpredictable bad days preventing me from booking lessons because of their cancellation fee. I have been told I can either go to the mainland for my remaining lesson and road test at my own expense and missing work on top of that or I can "gift" it to someone else. I am a healthcare worker in the middle of a pandemic being told I have to travel (to a place with many more cases) or I'm out of luck.

This is an adorable, somewhat small shop-classroom-studio. There are lots of indy label sewing patterns (like Christine Hayes, Colette, etc), sewing notions, a smattering of scrapbooking items and some lovely locally-handmade pieces. The Makehouse offers fun classes. They offer basic sewing, pattern making, upholstering and specific piece workshops. There's a Kids Club a couple nights a week. They also have drop in sewing times and "sewcials". It seems local fiber artists use the space as a studio...it's an inspiring environment. They were featuring some unique hand embroidered portraits of women by an artist named Annie Nazarian when I stopped by. Unique, interesting. There's a definite Somerset Studio, slightly vintage vibe coursing through The Makehouse that is charming...if staying downtown, it's worth the extra block's jaunt to visit or if local, a few hours to stop for a class. I try to spend a couple weeks at a time every few years in Victoria - and on my next extended stay I intend to take some classes...I can't wait for my next visit!
