I've owed Dr. Paws this review for a while now. We've been taking our dogs and cats there for a few…read moreyears now and the experience has been outstanding. They don't oversell like another vet office in the area we tried. They actually evaluate your situation and make the appropriate recommendations. None of their employees have ever been afraid of our pit bulls, which is another issue we had at, yet another, vet office. Dr. Wendi is our primary and I couldn't be any happier. Dr Sperling has only seen us on occasion, typically "emergency" type visits, but our experience with her has also been fantastic. I'm still convinced her "hunch" of curiosity saved my cats life. I'd confidently say the entire package couldn't be better. The experience of friendliness is consistent with whoever you speak to from the minute you walk in until you leave.

She said they weren't accepting new patients and hung up the phone on me. How do you turn away a sick cat? I find it really hard to believe they won awards. I've only been in town for a few weeks and find it very difficult establishing a new vet for my pets. Either they're not accepting new patients, not open on weekends, or don't allow walk ins (which is just crazy to me). I never had this problem in my last state I lived in. PA needs to do better with animal healthcare.

I brought him in the morning for treatment or euthanasia, they recommended euthanasia. I prepaid for the appointment (which was later in the day). Prior to the morning appointment, I requested a muzzle because my dog was snappy, he snapped at me in the morning, I wanted to make sure the staff would be safe while examining him. They were aware that he snapped at me, since I was adamant about getting a muzzle. When we came for the euthanasia, with my two sons and husband, they went through their checklist. I again shared he snapped at me, then all of a sudden they demanded he is tested for rabies. For those of you who don't know how animals are tested for rabies, they must examine the brain. When asked how much does he weigh, I responded 80 lbs, they coldly said in front of my boys 'we have to take his head off and send it'. WHAT!? Are you kidding me?! And the worse part? I had to pay for it. I opted for us to bring his body home for home burial, but now I have to choose to have his body returned decapitated or pay for cremation. All for a snap that didn't break skin. The only time I was spoken to with tenderness or compassion is when they asked for payment. I am so saddened, angry, and appalled that despite me sharing the entire day that we needed a muzzle to ensure safety of staff because he had snapped at me, when it came to the very last minute and I was deep in grief I was blindsided by this. Try consoling a 12 year old who literally grew up with his dog that we can't bring him home to bury. Explain what the 'doctor' meant when he said 'we have to take his head off'. They made a hard day infinitely harder. Do better, Throop location. Remember that we are paying YOU for a a service, you aren't doing anything as a favor or for free. Now I have to live with the knowledge that my beautiful boy will be returned to us incomplete. Without his beautiful head. By far the worst experience of my entire life.

A vet tech came running out, took Hank in her arms, and rushed him inside. When we left hours later, we truly didn't think we would be bringing him home again. It was a long, sleepless night, waiting for that dreaded phone call--one that, thankfully, never came. The next morning, a nurse told us Hank was off oxygen, and the doctor would be calling with his bloodwork--the same bloodwork that had been so abnormal it couldn't even be properly measured because he was so sick. Then the doctor called with the news we had been hoping and praying for: Hank was doing incredibly well. She wanted to keep him through the afternoon for monitoring, but he would be coming home. We cannot thank this staff enough for saving our Hank. Not only did they save his life, but they also gave our little boy so much love and care while he was their patient. We will forever be grateful and cannot recommend them highly enough. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, The Woodruff Family
