I am writing to formally report an extremely unprofessional interaction I had with the manager at…read moreyour store. I called the store because I wanted to ask what types of cannabis products the store currently carries. When the employee answered, I politely asked to speak with the manager. Instead of simply transferring me, the employee repeatedly questioned me about why I wanted to speak with the manager. I explained that I simply wanted to speak with the person in charge, yet I was still questioned and had to wait approximately 5-10 minutes before being connected. Once I was finally transferred to the manager, the interaction immediately felt unnecessarily hostile and confrontational. His tone and attitude toward me were disrespectful from the beginning of the conversation. I was calling as a potential customer with a simple question about the products the store sells, and there was no reason for the interaction to become confrontational. When I addressed his attitude and explained that I was simply trying to get information as a customer, rather than attempting to de-escalate the situation or professionally address my concern, the manager became even more upset. He ultimately told me, "We're not going to sell you anything" and stated that he did not like the way I was speaking to him. I found this interaction extremely disappointing and unprofessional. I understand that employees and managers have the right to refuse service in certain circumstances, but the way this situation was handled was completely unnecessary. I contacted the store intending to potentially make a purchase and simply wanted information about the products available. Instead, I was treated as though I had done something wrong simply for asking to speak with a manager and questioning the manager's attitude toward me. I am requesting that this incident be reviewed by the appropriate person in management or corporate leadership. I would also like the conduct of the manager and the employee who initially handled my call to be addressed appropriately. Customers should be able to contact a business, ask reasonable questions, and expect to be treated with basic professionalism and respect. Regardless of whether the manager agreed with me or liked the way I responded to his attitude, his position as a manager should require him to remain professional and de-escalate customer concerns rather than escalate them. I am not writing this complaint simply because I was refused service. I am writing because of the manner in which I was treated and because I believe the interaction fell far below the standard of customer service that should be expected from a manager representing your business. BTW the driver was extremely nice and I felt bad he had to come back. The policy apparently is once a delivery is attempted, you are hostage to payment NO MATTER IF THERE IS AN ERROR on the stores system. The payment did not show processed btw. This is just WAY more trouble than it's worth. I truly hope Happy Days eventually delivers so that very nice driver could work for a better company.

I'm giving it 5 stars because my experience has been overwhelmingly positive, notwithstanding a few problems over the last many years. To begin with, they delivered high-quality food to my elderly mother and uncle, and to me, throughout the pandemic. Without them it would have been very difficult. They haven't been perfect, but if any items are not to your liking, they will credit the amount to your next order. Their fish is as fresh as any I've had anywhere. Their produce and meat are very fresh and high quality. Their prices are lower than any supermarket or other store I can buy from. I really appreciate FreshDirect.

I am dismayed and so sad to have to write this review…read more Fresh Direct used to be a great grocery delivery service for fresh, locally grown (PA, NJ, NY, CT) produce, CSA shares, humanely-raised meat, homemade pies and desserts, fantastic prepared meals, and other interesting, hard to find products. It's the ONLY place I can buy Poly-O Grated Mozzarella for our homemade pizzas. They recently returned to the Philly area after pulling out a few years ago and I was happy to see them back, but I learned that the original company is under new ownership since 2023. Unfortunately, my orders began to have problems almost immediately - thawed frozen food, squished tomatoes, haphazard packaging, missing items (including steaks!), and spoiled items. I have always been told that their food is held in a temperature-controlled environment until delivery and that was certainly true during the pandemic, but it has not been the case with my recent orders. I wrote to Fresh Direct and they are eager to give me credit or refund my money but they keep evading my questions about food safety! Today, I got a notice that my order had been delivered but it hadn't so I wrote to them. A little while later the delivery driver called me to say he was on his way and that the app had mistakenly said the order was delivered. And that is how I finally learned the truth about temperature control! According to the delivery driver, the Fresh Direct fleet of trucks in the Philly area had maintenance problems so bad that it wasn't worth fixing them. So they advertised in the local paper for 20 delivery drivers, but they needed to provide their own vehicles! This guy said that he has spent over $1,000 on dry ice but that most of the drivers won't do that, so that is why my food has arrived thawed, missing, and spoiled. No accountability because these delivery drivers do not work for Fresh Direct. They operate like contractors. Like an Uber. I would think this is a safety issue so I intend to report them to Philadelphia's Office of Food Protection (215-685-7495), and possibly to the FDA. I am baffled by how little Fresh Direct seems to care. It's as if they view the refunds the cost of doing business. Doesn't sound like a good solid business plan to me. BTW - about that delivery driver who enlightened me, after telling me how he was a good old honest South Philly boy with morals who would never steal my food or deliver thawed frozen food to me - he never showed up! lol Judging by our text exchanges, I think he is not the sharpest knife in the drawer. But then again, he got my food and I didn't! The way I see it, Fresh Direct has hired a bunch of delivery people who are out there stealing groceries and making arbitrary decisions about whether or not they will deliver your groceries and they answer to no one! Grocery pirates if you will! They got some really high quality, expensive food from me - steaks, crab, pork chops, fresh produce, prepared meals, cases of seltzer, etc.. I don't know - it's just a feeling - but I expect to see Fresh Direct retreat from the Philly market once again.
