The longest I've waited is an hour just to be put into a patient room. His staff is very curteous, always apologetic for his tardiness. Dr. Thornquist isn't a "thorough" doctor. He tends to assume the problem and from what other patients have told me, he tends to prescribe the same thing to each patient he sees (steroids, narcotics, etc.). I would not recommend this doctor to anyone who has addiction issues. I also wouldn't recommend this doctor to anyone who doesn't have the patience to wait to see a doctor. Dr. Thornquist has a pleasant personality but I don't feel he has his patient's best interests at heart.

It so happens, I was referred to Dr Demers through another excellent Alaskan doctor, and as luck should have it, I took to her immediately. For those who may not know, she is board certified in both Internal and Occupational Medicine. Dr Demers is extremely knowledgeable, patient, and non-pretentious. She will listen to your concerns and give the latest evidence-based medical information as her explanations for whatever treatment plan she decides on. As a healthcare person myself that nearly became a doctor as well (I dropped out at the end of the third year but I get how doctors think and the intensity of the training having been through some of it), I appreciate her providing the latest findings in the medical literature in her explanations. Her breadth of knowledge is probably better than most. She put me on a new med that has really helped with one of my chronic health issues. I wish I had been taking this med before! I'll be sticking with her as my regular doc. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a regular doctor in the Anchorage area. Of note, her office is contained within the main building of Providence Hospital.

I'm sorry you can't benefit from his knowledge and experience. I've gone through 4 doctors since he retired and I liked them all but none of them come even half way to being the doctor he was. But very, very few ever will and I doubt I will find one of them. I laughed reading a couple other comments, the negative ones. Had to wait to see the doctor? Terrible! Unless you are the earlier patient with a serious problem that he took the time to help. They didn't over book, they took more time than allotted when it was necessary. A doctor that can stay on schedule is what we have now: "what's your problem? Okay, here's a prescription. Next patient" And Dr Mike made it clear that he could not accept Medicare patients because Medicare doesn't pay for anything they consider unnecessary, which is anything beyond taking your vital signs. Those of us approaching Medicare age knew that and planned to pay out of pocket. He was worth it.

We weren't able to get in to see the surgeon for a consult as quickly as we would have liked, but seeing his PA Jennifer was absolutely the next best thing! Intake was prompt, on sight x-rays and fully informed on what is most likely to come over the next several months! So far so good!
