I was referred to Dr. Jaycox in October 2023 because I developed pain in the central portion of my left knee after having a partial knee replacement in the medial area of my left knee. The surgery eliminated the pain from arthritis in the operative area but as replaced by pain under the kneecap in the center of my knee. After reviewing my medical history and x-rays, Dr. Jaycox recommended a genicular nerve block. I had this procedure done twice without any relief for my pain. Dr. Jaycox then recommended a trial of a spinal cord stimulator, which seemed to provide me with some relief of my pain, so it was decided to have a fourth surgical procedure to implant the device. Afterwards I continued to experience pain in my knee.
At this point I decided to get an opinion as to the nature of my pain. I consulted with two different orthopedic surgeons, and both determined that the reason for my knee pain was arthritis, not neural. I thus underwent a fifth surgery to have the spinal cord stimulator removed.
My issue with the care I received from Dr. Jaycox is why it was never correctly determined that the source of my knee pain was due to arthritis rather than nerve pain, which is what Dr. Jaycox was treating me for. I could have avoided five surgical procedures (2 nerve blocks, implant of the trial spinal cord stimulator, implant of the permanent spinal cord stimulator, and removal of the spinal cord stimulator) if I had received the correct diagnosis at the outset.
While I wish that the surgeon Dr. Brett Levine, who performed the partial knee replacement, had provided me and Dr. Jaycox with the correct diagnosis (Dr. Levine said it was likely due to tendonitis, which is not the same as arthritis), I believe that Dr. Jaycox bears some responsibility for the incorrect care I received for my knee pain. I am now left with two scars on my back from the spinal cord stimulator implant and the same level of pain I had when I first saw Dr. Jaycox.
I will say that Dr. Jaycox was very attentive to the pain I have been experiencing, was excellent in his follow up care and seemed very knowledgeable about the anatomy of the knee. Unfortunately, the care I received did not eliminate my knee pain whatsoever. read more
