Admission for $5.00 with patrons' hand stamped allows patrons to hop six rooms (only six rooms were reserved for this event) in the course of the night. One room for a chill out lounge room; one room for percussion and wind instruments; one room for spoken word poetry open-mic reading; and another for vocals. Room size vary in all thirteen rooms which gives a quaint audience for musicians/artists to be acquainted and comfortable of performing in front a live audience overcoming stage freight. Funkadelic Studios felt like a bar where located all on the same street of a live performance hop from room to room without ever leaving the building. For emerging musician artists and or established musicians Funkadelic Studios is a perfect venue for practice or debuting one's talent. A fellow prolific poet invited me for the spoken word poetry event which to my utter dismay the event did not begin until 9pm. There are soda machines and musical tool machines serving as emergency backup should musicians instruments brake a chord or lost a guitar pick. The rooms are insulated for soundproof as required by law and are equipped with functional A/C ventilation. I rate Funkadelic Studios for lack of food. I would not recommend Funkadelic Studios for youngsters under age 21 as the hours of operation for events, volume of noise, explicit language used are not kid-friendly.

Jonathan is a real teacher. I just picked up trumpet as an adult, an instrument I always wanted to play but never had the nerve to actually pick up. I finally pulled the trigger last spring and bought a trumpet, and dabbled a little on my own, before looking for a teacher. As an adult beginner my weakness was being very self conscious about making mistakes and not being able to rely on intuition as I used to, so what I needed in a teacher was someone who is kind, would have a sincere patience to persevere despite my many errors, and believe in the vision I have of being a great trumpet player one day. I was looking around for trumpet teachers in the NYC area that had deep fundamental knowledge of the basics as well as a proclivity towards jazz when I found some of Jonathan's videos on his website and youtube. I decided to email Jonathan for a trial lesson to start out, but knew by the end of the first lesson that Jonathan was the teacher I was looking for and have been taking regular lessons ever since. With a tight schedule between my masters degree and work schedule, I don't have as much time as I'd like for trumpet practice, but Jonathan helped me with a personal practice routine down to the number of minutes to fit in my schedule, as well as some exercises for the days that are especially busy. It's a great feeling to trust that for the limited time I have to practice each day, I'm getting the fundamental material from someone who seriously knows his craft as a trumpet player and a teacher. Recently, while at a jam session at a club in New York City, Jonathan Saraga was in the house, and he "stepped up to the plate." As he started playing, my head started turning; I was totally awed by his technique, intonation, phrasing, the ease of his performance, and, oh, that gorgeous sound! My training had been on the upright bass, but I have been playing trumpet for about 16 years, and was looking for an instructor with newer, fresher ideas. We set up an appointment and I must say that, from the very beginning, he turned out to be the person I was looking for in order for me to become more proficient: very knowledgeable, patient, and above all, focused. Jonathan Saraga has been teaching my four sons piano for over a year. They range in age from Kindergarten to ninth grade. Jonathan has been kind, patient, and caring with each child. He engages them easily and uses age appropriate learning techniques. My six year old has never had lessons before Jonathan and he has made leaps and bounds of progress. Dr Saraga has been instructing my fourteen year old son in trumpet via zoom for the last four months. We live rurally so access to his quality of instruction via zoom has removed a huge barrier to his musical development. Jonathan taught my son for six months while we were in Boulder. He really helped him take his playing to the next level. Even though my son is only 10, Jonathan has turned him into a serious and enthusiastic musician. I'm an over 60 year old come-back trumpet player and I've been working with Jonathan for a few months now. My main focus was to work on jazz improv and he had helped me enormously. He is patient and supportive and meets you where you are as a trumpet player. Jonathan gave me a number of lessons in advanced jazz theory, harmony, and improvisation. He is highly knowledgeable and skilled as an improviser, and was great at communicating this to me. My experience has been learning from scratch, but Jimmy has students at every level including professional musicians. I decided in January 2012, to try guitar lessons. I was almost fifty-five at the time and could not play an instrument or read music. I searched the internet for guitar instructors in Manhattan. One particular review said Jimmy Rose insisted that you learn music and not just the guitar. I called to see if he could give me lessons, but he wanted to meet me before committing. He came by the apartment and somehow a fifty-five year old conservative accountant from Texas met his approval. (Jimmy most definitely has none of these characteristics in common with me.) All he cared about was whether I really wanted to learn guitar. Since then I have had a lesson with Jimmy every week, including an eight-month period that I took by skype. My daughter and one of her friends now take lessons from him. My granddaughter takes piano lessons from another of his students. Everyone at work knows who he is. My doormen and our friends know him. He is a great friend to our family. Jimmy has a music degree from Eastman School of Music, and his exceptional knowledge of music and guitar will become apparent over your first few lessons. He starts with the basics of reading music and playing the guitar from the music. (Listen when he tells you to play slow and to tap your foot to keep the beat. I still struggle with those after almost six years.) He assigns you increasingly complex pieces picked to teach new skills. He will laugh when he reads this, but for a while I thought I might one day see the limits of Jimmy's music knowledge. That will never happen. He is extremely professional in his approach and arrives prepared for each lesson. After a while he may even bring sheet music that he has scored specifically for you. There have been numerous times over the years when my work conflicted with my scheduled lesson. He is always far more concerned than I am that we find an alternative time in the week. I give him a hard time that he should take a vacation every few years. If you want to learn about music and become the best guitarist you can be, then Jimmy is your guy. I don't play the guitar well. A little bit of talent would help, but I am hooked on learning about music and guitar from Jimmy. He believes in his ability to make me into a musician. His confidence has been really important when I have struggled or felt discouraged. He just doesn't accept anything other than moving forward. I have no defined end goal. This January will make six years that I have studied with Jimmy, and I plan to stay with him as long as I can. If you are lucky enough to find an opening in his schedule, you will learn why all of his students give him five stars. And by the way, I believe he under prices is services.

I'm an old guy, somewhat set in my ways. Josh doesn't force me to play in a certain style, learn certain songs, or insist I learn music theory. He doesn't tell me what to do. At the start of each lesson, he asks me what I want to work on. I feel like she understood my son as a student since the first day and continually challenges him with guitar solos in a fun and encouraging way. She is punctual, but yet flexible with our crazy NYC schedules which make these lessons to follow doable for all of us.
