Cannot tell you how many doctors I went to…read morebefore I found one that I felt confident in and felt reliable in seeing about health issues or prescription refills. I once went to a doctor that prescribed me anti-histamines when I had pneumonia. As a result I got asthma, and I've been very cautious about choosing a cheap, bulk-billed doctor. Central Brunswick Centre is not bulk-billed, but it is rebated by Medicare, so your average cost for a consultation is about $30. The staff are super friendly and you don't have to wait too long when you book an appointment. When it comes to your health you can never be too careful but I wouldn't trust anywhere else.

Central Brunswick Medical Centre is gay friendly, and the majority of doctors are gay themselves. So a lot of the LGBT community are patients here and can get sexual advice and check ups in a comfortable environment. I'm straight but I come here because the doctors, receptionists and facilities are amazing. I've been to a few doctors here. Ken Koh is very helpful, and when I left the appointment he even called me on his private office line to double check whether or not I'd had certain vaccines. Fiona Bishop is fantastic, and is always on high demand. When I first wanted to come to this clinic she wasn't taking on any new patients, but six months later I somehow managed to weasel my way onto her regular patient's list. She's compassionate, but firm, and made me piss myself when I walked in with a nasty virus and she spent our entire consultation with a face mask on. (I was very contagious.) James Kennedy is a sweetheart and has a lovely Irish accent that will make you forget all of your ails. The nurse is also incredibly kind and considerate. My ears get blocked often so I come here to get them flushed out. Having water flushed into your middle ear isn't exactly pleasant and can leave you feeling nauseous, so the nurse sat and chatted with me while the room stopped spinning. Some important things to note: - You're able to claim most of the bill back through medicare, and the ladies at reception can help you set things up so those returns are paid directly to your account. - There's a pathology clinic down the hall so you can get your tests done in one hit. - If you're catching public transport, this place can be a bit difficult to find. Walk past Grill'd, then past Video Ezy, walk up two flights of stairs and it's straight ahead on your left.

How often have you gone into your local Doctors surgery to be greeted by FREE wifi and iPads…read moreavailable for patient use while they wait? Doctors @ Teneriffe have upped the GP game. Being a "regular" patient there (it's 100 meters from my front door) I can book appointments online and request which doctor I would like to see. They have ample free parking space in an enclosed, secure carpark off the road which also has entry into the building. With a professional team of medical experts I feel very comfortable coming here with any medical concern. I have personally seen Dr Dora Lee, Dr Fiona McGrath and Dr Karenne Walde. All are very professional in their bedside manner and all of them record information about my visits in their internal patient records so the next person to see me has all of my background. They offer skin cancer analysis as well as travel medicine. I am so pleased it's my local GP and I can't see myself booking in anywhere else.

I first started going to MGPC when the bulk-booking clinic down the road was all booked out one day…read morewhen I was legitimately sick. This was back when I was a bit poorer, but MGPC taught me quickly that paying for consultations was worth it when the service provided was so, so much better. For general consultations I highly recommend Dr Kratzing, Dr Butcher (slightly alarming surname for a doctor but give him, his English accent and his monobrow a chance), and Dr Gilbert . For general consultations and lady business (because I am a girl and feel weird talking to boys about girl things), I highly recommend Dr Featherstone and Dr Munro. I'm not super picky with my doctors, so I'll generally book an appointment at a time that's most convenient for me rather than for a specific doctor, but in all my time going to MGPC I've only seen a couple of doctors I didn't gel with. Like all clinics, you may find yourself having to sit around for a while - I usually call up to check how far behind a doctor is running before I get in the car, but still end up waiting for at least one appointment ahead of me. I think the longest I've waited is around 45mins, but that was a once-off - 15-20mins is more standard. The waiting room has plenty of trashy magazines available for reading, and it's large enough that you can generally get cosy in a corner without feeling like you're playing a game of sardines (though during flu season it can still get pretty full in there). I've lived in a few different suburbs of Brisbane over the years, both near to and far from MGPC, but I'm very happy with the standard at MGPC and will continue to be a client no matter where in Brisbane I live.

And when that point comes you want them to be great. I feel pretty confident I've found that in the team at Market Street Medical. I mean, when was the last time your doctor called you to say your doctor was running late to save you sitting in the waiting room for 30-40mins? Sure, it throws your day out but at least you can do something else in those 30-40mins rather than sit captive reading Country Style or House & Garden. I waited several months to see Dr Maintsone (she's that much of a rockstar she has a hefty waiting list) after recommendation from a friend who, with similar plights to my own, sung her praises. After the first visit with Dr Mainstone I understood why. She's considerate, understanding and sees issues as pieces of a greater puzzle. I feel she's genuinely interested in the health of her patients and I appreciate her commitment to looking at the bigger picture rather than always reaching for a quick fix. It is because of Dr Mainstone I was able, towards the end of 2013, gain some closure and context around a few medical issues and finally not feel like I was the crazy one for talking of such symptoms. They are more expensive than other GPs I've visited and I personally am okay with this for the level of treatment and attention I receive. Kempsie Road Medical Centre offers your basic General Practitioner's service for those unwanted non-emergencies, as well as a nurse on duty to take care of the even smaller things. Dr Satish Prasad is the doctor and he has over 20 years experience practicing as a medical practitioner and is a fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, as the placards over the walls can attest to. Apparently he also speaks fluent Hindi. What I like about Kempsie Road Medical Centre is that it's still a new practice, and therefore has less patients. Appointments are easy to make; I've found I can usually get an appointment on the day I call (rather than waiting for weeks like you do at some places). Oh, and they bulk bill. Of course you pay for what you get. Most appointments are $70 with a rebate from medicare for $35. The friendly receptionists are happy to process your rebate and have it sent directly to your bank account. I have seen a few people get bulk bill appointments, I guess it depends on circumstances. The waiting area is large and comfortable, with a small children's play area and a TV for us grown ups. The waiting room is almost always bursting at the seams but people are seen quickly and if there is a delay you can get a buzzer from the reception desk and go to the shops in the shopping centre. Mostly if they are running late it is only by 15 minutes. I for one am happy to wait because it means that if I am really unwell that I know the doctors will take the time with me and not rush to get on to the next patient. They also open late a couple of nights a week until 7pm for those who need to see a GP after work. Also they are open until 12pm on Saturdays for those who have become unwell over the weekend. If you need a referral to a specialist these GPs are fantastic and know of the best specialist in Brisbane to refer you on to. Parking is free and just out the front of the practice.
I've had to visit Watkins Medical Centre a few times, primarily to get my sinuses cauterized. Which…read moreis just as sexy as it sounds. Somehow, my parents - two people with the worst sinuses in the world - met, and if that wasn't bad enough, they reproduced. I inherited a pair (is that the delightful term?) of sinuses capable of creating major nasal breathing problems to rival the best of them. This means a trip to see Doctor Anthony Parker every few years to have my sinuses, well, burnt back. The doctor gives you an anaesthetic nasal spray, stuffs a metres-long (but very thin) string of gauze up your nose and 20 minutes later the procedure begins. It then involves the doctor burning away sinus tissue so that when the sinuses are inflamed, they do not meet and obstruct the airway. (I'm no doctor, but the clinic explains the procedure well before you go in.) And yes, he uses a big pointy laser-skewer instrument to remove the nasal tissue. You can only feel the pain when the skewer lingers too long in one area. Walking back out into the surgery an hour after I walked in, the receptionist once said, "I can smell someone's had a cauterisation!". Though a receptionist at an ear, nose and throat specialist must be used to such a smell, I wondered how use to it she is. Sinus problems, or "allergies", are becoming common issues and it wouldn't surprise me if this procedure is performed quite often. The bedside manner of the nurses here is fantastic. One held my hand during the procedure when it must have been evident in my face that the pain was a bit much. Dr Parker himself is also friendly and willing to explain your medical issue and options in great detail prior to an appointment, as well as cost, so you can be sure you're not being ripped off.

I've been going to this doctor's surgery since childhood and I can genuinely say that they're some…read moreof the best GP's I've ever seen. Let me give you a couple of examples. Although Brissie born and bred, I've lived in London until recently. Some years ago, I started to get a horrible rash for no apparent reason. It totally bewildered the GPs in London - one of whom sat there looking up a medical book trying to figure it out. Which didn't exactly fill me with confidence in his ability. After a slight freak out - after all, I was covered in an unsightly rash that nobody had a clue how to get rid of - I rang my Mum in Brisbane from London and she called Dr Harvey (from this very medical centre) to tell him what I'd told her on the phone. He was able to easily diagnose what it was from what I'd told Mum, and then advised what non-prescription ointment I should get from the chemist in London. I followed his instructions, and 2 days later, bye bye nasty rash. That's how good these doctors are! Most recently I went here with another complaint that the doctors in London were also perplexed by. Again, the doctor I saw here from this practice gave me an immediate (and correct) diagnosis and treatment. After 4 years of battling this particular health problem in the UK, all it took was 15 minutes in this Brisbane surgery to walk out knowing what it was and exactly how to fix it. So if you're new to Brisbane and live on the Southside, these are the GPs du jour.
I'm not usually one to leave a review or recommendation, but Barefoot Physiotherapy is so…read moreoutstanding I could not go on without publicly praising them. I injured my ankle a few years ago playing touch and being a young student at the time decided to forgo seeking treatment. This was a huge mistake and over the years not only did my ankle never heal, but my body adjusted to compensate - which only caused more issues and pain. I decided to finally seek help and after trying two other physiotherapists nothing seemed to be working. Luckily for me, I stumbled across Barefoot online and based on their approach decided to give them a crack. During my first appointment, we did a very thorough overview of my specific injury, my whole body, my day-to-day experience and what I wanted to eventually achieve physically. I was pleasantly surprised at how in-depth this process was and how the results from this meeting alone drastically improved my injury. Following my appointment, I was assigned exercises that were practical, manageable and most importantly enjoyable. What's better was that were I to be under the weather or get bored, I could easily interchange or intensify my exercises. Over the next few months I saw my physiotherapist, Sal, many times. Every appointment I went to was reactive and based on progression. Depending on my adventures between appointments, my treatment and exercises were modified to ensure I saw and felt improvements with every visit. During busy weeks where I was unable to train as much as I would have liked, I never felt any guilt coming to see Sal because she understood that life is complex and I knew that between her expertise and confidence in me, we would be back on the horse in no time. For over a month now I've been using specialised training equipment Barefoot lent me, free of charge. By comparison, I know physio's that charge for tape! What's more, as my ankle improved I needed less and less appointments - a sign of true dedication to the patient. What has made Barefoot truly stand out however, is that I am treated as more than a simply customer. Sal was (and still is) incredibly attuned and sincerely dedicated to ensuring that I not only continue to improve my ankle's condition, but that I also live a genuinely good life. During my time here, Sal and the team at Barefoot have treated me like family. I always look forward to our appointments where I am not only expertly and professionally treated but enjoy meaningful conversation and a sharing of our experiences. Sal's outlook on life and problem-solving talents even helped me gain a new perspective regarding my own future pathway. I could continue this review with the many specific moments and features that make Barefoot Physiotherapy the virtuous establishment it is, but for the sake of anyone reading this I'll sum up by saying: they don't just treat the injury, they treat the person; and Barefoot has treated me very, very well. I'm off for a pain-free run (because I can do that now).
