My original podiatrist could not take me for two weeks! That's a long time for a swollen sore big toe to wait. I searched online for podiatrists and based on the 5 star ratings I chose Dr. Anita Onufer even though it was more of a drive to her office. She deserves more than 5 stars! What a thorough, skilled and kind doctor she is -- I was so impressed. She numbed my toe and removed the deep ingrown nail without any pain felt by me. Dr. Onufer explained every step and even gave me some supplies for follow-up care! I've never experienced that type of service from any doctor. When I asked why I couldn't just arrive sufficiently early to complete it there (pointing out that neither of the above scenarios would result in the office receiving the form or any information on it until my appointment), they actually said, and I kid you not, "This is our policy - we cannot allow patients to complete the form in the waiting room." I mean, God forbid. So naturally I offered to arrive sufficiently early and complete the form in my car. Problem solved, right? Still a hard no. I am not one to complain but at this point I lost my patience. And they lost theirs.

Specifically, I wanted the orthotics adjusted so one was thicker than the other. I called the office to explain that I wanted one orthotic for one foot made a bit thicker. However, my request was met with resistance by the doctor's female assistant who insisted I return to his office for an office visit in order to accomplish this. This new requirement of an additional office visit was not consistent with what Dr. Vess had told me initially: that I could call to provide feedback and request any adjustment to my new orthotics. I think requiring me to again travel to his office, PAY for another office visit, just to accomplish this simple adjustment to my custom made orthotics was overreaching and unnecessary. I will NEVER go back to him for this reason. Doc: get a better gatekeeper who understands how patients are affected by this abhorrent practice. You're trying to milk me and the insurance just so you can get income from another office visit, which is TOTAL bull.

I am very pleased I made the decision to get my toe procedure done in the office rather than in the…read morehospital. I had to get my left toe - next to my big toe on left foot removed. Before the procedure they took Xrays and scheduled the appointment to have it done. The day of surgery, I did not feel NO PAIN when the doctor used a needle to numb the area being worked on. There was no pain at all during the procedure. I even watched the procedure being done. It only took about a half hour to do the procedure. The doctor put dressing on the area and I had to wear a shoe boot. They gave me instructions I needed to follow while recovering. I recommend and am so glad I made the decision to have this procedure done in the doctors office, rather than in the hospital. If you decide on the hospital you would need to get all kind of tests done before the surgery, it is more involved, and would require 3 to 6 months to recover. Getting it done in the office takes only 2 to 3 weeks to recover. I would highly recommend getting the procedure done in the doctors office. I just had my second appointment a week after my procedure - where the doctor checked my foot, changed the dressing and I have the last appointment in a week - where my stitches will be taken out. Getting it done in the doctors office is the best decision. It is safe, the doctor is very gentle and thorough, and I highly recommend getting it done in the doctors office, rather than the hospital.
