I've been seeing Dr. Peter Cousins for many years, but recent experiences have been disappointing…read more After an insurance change, he began charging $220 per session out of pocket. Despite the steep cost, I remained loyal and cut back on expenses at home to afford his care. He is a great doctor, in he listens and has good bed side manner; and I would recommend him to anyone but you can't be late for any reason or you'll be charged. (He has no showed my husband before and we didn't get any compensation or an apology) Recently, I was delayed by an awful car accident on 45 and informed him immediately that I would be 15 minutes late. Rushing my family in traffic and desperately needing my appointment I was hopeful he would be understanding and not cut my appointment time. Instead of being understanding, he insisted I pay the full price for the remaining time in the slot and show up late. As a long-time patient, this treatment feels enraging. He has never extended my appointments so this was a first time occurrence, yet I am expected to pay full price despite unforeseen circumstances. (Mind you I pay out of pocket) It's disheartening to make personal sacrifices for a physician who doesn't reciprocate with basic human understanding.

If you want a lukewarm wet noodle who empathizes with all your baggage, Joe Bak is not your man. However, if you want a therapist with a penetrating intellect who makes well-timed interventions with well-crafted observations, you need look no further. My wife and I go to him together and we find him brilliant along several veins: (1) Suggesting effective strategies to resolve issues, (2) serving as a referee in our discussions during therapy, and (3) maintaining a low-key, non-threatening approach. He's been very flexible in scheduling appointments and we've had no billing or other admin issues. The "brusque" manner that Ann N. bemoans I find to be a thin veneer stretched over a very dry humor. If I have any complaint about Dr. Bak, it would have to be that he has a tendency to be a bit late to appointments (he runs between two offices - we see him at the one off of Dairy Ashford near I-10).
