We all know they don't make things like they used to. But when it was clear that my father in law's…read more68 year old roof was ready to step down from service, I did what any reasonable person looking into a new roof would do. I reached out to 37 contractors at once. I know, I know. But hear me out. I did this with the mindset that all these people had to do was follow some simple instructions. They all got the same form letter which explained our circumstances, budget concerns, communication and availability preferences. I figured as long as everyone simply had basic reading comprehension, common sense, and common courtesy, I'd be able to quickly amass a wide selection of estimates, and go from there. Folks, let me tell ya...I was descended upon like white on rice. Ants to sugar. Bears to honey. Me to a fridge brownie at 3am during a diet. And so fourth. The form letter asked prospective contractors to email me directly. Most responded through yelp. That ruled them out immediately. I'm sorry, but when all I ask is to do the simple thing...and you start off by ignoring the simple thing.... The form latter specified I prefer to communicate via email rather than over the phone. Half immediately asked for my phone number urging for a call that very same day to "lock in a quote", and all the usual high pressure crap. They were removed from the pool too. Yes, just like that. If you find that unreasonable, I don't know what to tell you. People have preferences for a reason. And when they really aren't asking much of you in the first place, it stands to reason it's wise to abide by them in order to show someone you aren't dismissive of their needs. The form letter made mention that while we reside in location A, the home in need of work was in location B, which happens to be a 130 mile round trip. Needless to say, I wasn't going to meet up in person with 37 contractors. Or 27 contractors. Or 17, or even 7 if I could help with. Because *I* don't need to be there. I'm not a roofer, nor am I going up on the roof. Anything I need to know can be said or shown via email or text. It's 2026. My generation is terrified of phone calls. When it actually rings we throw it across the room and hide under the covers until it stops. Come on now. When the dust settled, only two companies remained. One of them was MGMP. I won't mention the name of the second contractor, and I don't want to specify the exact deciding factor between the two, because I don't want everyone reading this review to assume that our circumstances are applicable to them. I will just say that the non-MGMP finalist said that we needed to do something which would have put us severely over budget and put a halt to our effort altogether, while MGMP felt otherwise, and provided us with an option which was feasible enough to allow us to move forward, with the understanding that there *may* be additional expenses depending on what all is found after removing the roof altogether, but we could proceed from there. This was perfectly reasonable. I will admit, at first that felt like a red flag. But after speaking with Johnathan, I decided to trust him, because I have an overly sensitive BS meter and it was sound asleep, which is rare amidst these sort of circumstances. Once the roof was off, the only additional expense beyond our initial quote was $700 to cover some additional materials. I was expecting *much* worse, and was relieved beyond measure. Fortunately for me, MGMP has integrity, and is true to their word. Johnathan sent a series of comprehensive photos and videos showing absolutely all the trouble spots of concern, which he didn't even have to do. I never asked, but he did it anyway, just to be transparent. The whole process had them swoop in early 02/26/26 and they finished mid-day by 02/28/26. And this was not a rush job. Johnathan works with a small army who worked two FULL days (sunrise to sunset) and then some, as well as the time it took to wrap it all up on day three. He sent photos the day it was done, and the work looked immaculate. My father in law isn't doing so hot, and he's well into his golden years. As his time on this giant floating rock winds down, his only major wish and preference is to simply stay in his own home for as long as possible. His home needs a lot of love, and when it was clear we needed to look into a new roof for him asap, we honestly didn't think we'd be able to make it happen. Thanks to MGMP Construction, not only does he now have a new roof, allowing him to stay put doing internet genealogy and playing Peggle on his desktop to his hearts content, but he can stay *home*, where he feels safe. That means everything to him, and just as much to us. So to the team at MGMP Construction and to Johnathan in particular, thank you. You haven't just given someone a new roof, but peace of mind and a reminder that there are still plenty of good people out there, with businesses you can actually trust.

The responses to my questions were fast, and I asked A LOT of questions. All my questions felt welcomed by Shay and I am so thankful to him. Quality was superb. I asked Shay for help with adding a wall to my garage, change area of laundry air vent, demo carpet on stairs and on second floor , change subflooring on second floor, install laminate flooring where carpet was, new walk in shower, and upgrade our stairs to have risers. The finished job looked beautiful and well built. There were minor details that I wanted fixed and Shay had it fixed next day. It was amazing. As for the cost, it was comparable to other competitors. We saw Shay and his team had proof of work. Shay took us to one of his other renovation projects and that house was beautiful. Even after the job is done, Shay does not ghost you. I asked him if he could look at something for me and he still sent someone my way. Overall, my partner and I are both so happy we went with JRD Construction. Dont hesitate to choose them!

Martinez House Remodeling Outdoor Staircase Replacement…read more This is the second time we have used Joel for a home renovation, and both times the outcomes were outstanding. His process always started with a site visit, a thoughtful review of my needs, a budget analysis and a negotiation of cost saving opportunities. Joel prefers to do indoor remodeling, but he took on our outside job with enthusiasm, despite the terrible heat of late August. We wanted to repair some worn steps and loose rails on our staircase up to our garage, which admittedly had been neglected after a few paintings - it was almost 30 years old. After some discussion we decided to do a complete staircase replacement with pressure treated wood and select Trex composite square boards. The treads (steps) and stringers (side step supports) were fabricated with 3 1/2" finished thick on-ground pressure treated lumber (4" nominal thickness), the balusters were upgraded from 2 x 2" to 2 x 4" from the same wood, and the handrails were dense 2 x 6" Trex Transcend composite boards. Where a number of the old balusters and side rail structures were separated from their supports because of being connected by nails only, the entire new structure used decking screws, and the screwheads on the top of the handrails were plugged with matching composite plugs to be only visible by hunting for them. The old stairs were fairly secure, but the new staircase feels rock solid. Joel treated every cut wooden board end with copper-based preservative, and painted the exposed edges of composite boards with color matched paint. He also sealed some minor cracks with wood filler and did an extra preservative treatment layer on the thick stingers and treads. Joel finished the job with an extensive cleanup and washing of our concrete wall, which was much appreciated. Initially, the job was scheduled to take a bit more than a week. Despite losing a day because of a poor quality wood delivery and replacement. Joel and his team finished the job in 5 days, including on Saturday. Surprisingly, he was able to take down the old staircase and replace it with the basic supports and stairs on the first day, so we did not even lose one night of access to our garage and rear parking spot. I highly recommend Joel Martinez of Martinez House Remodeling for your next job. He might not be able to do all jobs, but if he can find a way to do it, you will not be disappointed. We will try to use him again.
