When I found out that, after 15 years of trying, I was finally pregnant with my first child, I set out on my search for the perfect Obstetrician. I was automatically classed as 'high risk' because of my age and long history of infertility and I needed someone who could manage the whole pregnancy from beginning to end.
This included a someone highly experienced but within 10-15 years of my own age, a person who would include my husband every step of the way and most importantly, someone with a great sense of humour who will tell me things (both good and bad) straight up and not waffle on. The most important thing is that they had to have had a lot of experience in doing Caesarean sections on women over 40. I didn't want my 'hand held' so-to-speak, but I did want someone with a caring nature, who could relate to me and my husband and most importantly, someone who will be to the point with me on everything and explain why - whether I liked hearing it or not.
As soon as I met Dr Chris Price, I knew I had found the person I had been looking for. Chris has a very dry sense of humour (which some people could take offense to) and is very to the point on things, but the moment I met him, I felt instantly at ease and I knew I would be in the best hands. He does have a very caring nature but do not expect him to treat you as if you are wrapped in cotton wool. Instead, he has a reason for everything he does and if you are not sure or clear on something, ask him about it and he will discuss the reasoning behind it. One thing that he does like is that if you have questions, come into the consultation with them written down - he seems to like people who are prepared for their consultations. If you are nervous or worried about anything, discuss it with him. Example: I am terrified of going into an operating theatre and I told him this. He asked me why I am so terrified of theatre and I explained why. He said to me that I have nothing to worry about and that he is in his element in theatre and he promised me that that it would be a great experience - and it was.
The morning of the scheduled C Section, Chris knew that I was terrified but he calmed me and told me that I did not have to do anything, he had to do the work and I just had to lie back and wait for my baby to come out! I definitely have to say it was the best surgery experience that I have ever had. Chris ran an excellent theatre team who all worked well supporting each other and taking care of the nervous parents-to-be. The theatre was full of laughter and jokes to put us at ease and, as I was awake through the whole procedure, the constant communication between myself, Chris, the Midwife, my husband and the rest of the team was fantastic and also a great relief.
My after care in hospital was excellent as well - he was going on holidays two days after my procedure and had personally arranged for another Obstetrician from his practice to come and see me. He advised me that if I needed him, to contact his office who could reach him if there was any kind of an issue.
Chris is such an amazing, talented and brilliant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist that I have made the decision to transfer to him permanently from the current person I am seeing. I always felt 110% comfortable with Chris and do not have any issues discussing anything with him - no matter how small or trivial it is.
If you are after an experienced OBGYN who will treat you like a person (not just a patient), you do not mind a dry sense of humour and having a bit of a laugh, then I highly recommend Dr Chris Price. read more
