I was warned that this place is small, so I know not to expect the two storey high gigantic backdrops I've seen before. The museum is actually not as tiny as I expected, but the backdrops are really small. They should find a building with taller space, and expand the drawings a few feet each way. Right now you have to be very careful not to include the outside area and the spot lights in your photos. Also, the low ceiling means that the light makes the seams between floor and walls more obvious. Another disappointment I have is that there are only a few scenes that are Hong Kong related. Otherwise it's over 90% related to One Piece. For people who are not anime fans, this just isn't very interesting. They seem to change their artworks regularly, many of the photos I saw in the reviews are no longer around. Nonetheless, we still have fun, and there is a nice guy who goes around showing us how to pose (he also snap pictures which hopefully you'll buy from him but there isn't much pressure.) Some scenes posted a sample pics to give you an idea how to post but unfortunately a lot of them don't have one and left us rather clueless as to where we are supposed to stand. The 4 stars here is a bit generous but I do want this place to succeed and improve and see similar businesses opening up. You do need to have friends to go with you. And better some friend who's a perfectionist, instead of just pressing the shutter, to advise you where to stand, how to pose, and don't mind stepping around a bit to get at the perfect angle for the best effect. It is accessible right off the Mid-Levels escalator and timing of the escalator's direction is crucial so that you don't wear yourself out before the exploration itself. The area is not extremely handicap friendly, so knowing that may help your travels. Tai Kwun is on top of the hill so it is steep as you walk down back to Central MTR Station. I got to visit all of the buildings on a self-guided tour and discovered that one of the prison cells housed Vietnamese revolutionary Ho Chi Minh amongst other historical inmates. Whether you're a history buff or just a curious explorer, Tai Kwun is a unique place to visit.

I got the membership thanks to my dad, and naturally this was the place I went to, when I ever asked a girl out for a movie first time in my life (it was Miyazaki's Whisper of the Heart, or 耳をすませば / 夢幻街少女, in 1995). But it's more than just memory. The cinema is conveniently located in Yau Ma Tai, but also quite interestingly hidden inside an estate, like it is never intended for general public. It has since become my go-to place for non-mainstream movies, whether it is local or foreign. I still remember a lot of movies I watched here quite specifically. Breathless is one of them, Paris, je t'aime was another one. I must admit that, to many of your eyes, they are still pretty mainstream. And for the other half of you, you may on the other hand think I'm pretty pretentious or being pseudo-intellectual. The point of my photos (and Reggie) is that as you meander through the modern art galleries, shops, restaurants and dealers, keep an eye out for the fleeting yet still present remnants of bygone Hong Kong, which still exist in the cracks, shadows and crevices of this modern, urban, sophisticated city.
