Hidden Valley Farm

If you're an equestrian or simply a horse enthusiast, stop by…read more The grounds are peaceful for a walk (we were there for almost an hour), and shutterbugs have lots to take photos of. If you're lucky enough to own a horse, you're able to board them there for a monthly fee. Otherwise there are pony rentals and rides (for little kids, for sure), and riding lessons available. Find Hidden Valley Horse Farm at Ridley Creek State Park.

Hidden Valley Horse Farm has been located inside Ridley Creek State Park since 1999. It is the…read morefirst thing you see on your left as you enter the main park entrance. The set up utilizes some horse facilities from the Jeffords estate. Horse culture at this location dates back to the turn of the 19th C. and has links to Samuel Riddle, breeder of Man O' War and other famed racehorses. Boarding is available here with beautiful paddocks. There are 40 acres of pasture for grazing. There is a brand new enclosed ring that was built about a year ago. Also a heated tack room, and washing area (outside). We notice that horses are always blanketed when it is cold out, and they always look lively and content. In addition to boarding, they offer beginner, intermediate and advanced lessons, horse education ("hands-on"), pony rides, and parties. Often people host birthday parties at the nearby park picnic area with playground, and enjoy pony rides as part of the party. To visit and exercise your horse, there is a separate horse trail adjacent to the horse farm, just across Gradyville Road. North of Gradyville Rd the trail is roughly a figure 8 shape, & is the longest trail overall (4.7mi) for the park, and the only one equestrian-accessible. This is the widest unpaved park trail, since it is for horses. Note that walkers & dogs also use this trail, and populate it more than horses. A large northern section of the trail abuts Edgmont Country Club golf course, & the green's activities can be observed from the trail.

I am in my third year of adult lessons at Solly, and am involved in the 4H program as a volunteer…read more I love this barn! And I love the people at this barn! I have physical issues as a result of injuries from other sports, as well as a chronic disease process that began in my early 40's. My instructor is amazing! I am building skills and confidence, and re-learning horsemanship from the ground up. This is not my first barn, but this is the first barn I have been associated with that feels like home. The 4H and lesson horses are healthy, happy, well trained, and well exercised. I know many of the long term private boarders, and can say the same about their horses. The current association inherited a dilapidated mess, and have done wonders with the property since. There is a plan in place for improvements and I see evidence of progress every month. The owners, board of directors and several of the boarders are also very generous with their time and talents, and a crew of volunteers of all ages contributes to the overall success of Solly. In my opinion, based on my experience, Solly Stables is an absolute gem. All that is important to horse husbandry is happening here the way it should. It isn't the fanciest barn, but it is the most caring and most competent facility I have ever known. The 4H and lesson programs are top notch. Boarders get excellent service and a more than fair price. The stalls, arena, turn outs and trails are far more than what you expect from a once neglected barn in the middle of a city neighborhood, and on par with what you would get at a barn in the suburbs. Except at Solly hours of trails are right behind the barn, alongside a beautiful creek. No need to trailer, no need to walk on a road to get to the trail. Solly is a slice of horse heaven, and my personal happy place. I come here as often as possible, to be among the nicest horses and people I have ever known. On a daily basis, people of all ages, and families of all sizes, come to Solly to enjoy the what is certainly the most unique and most enjoyable equine facility in the area. Seeing is believing. Come on down and experience what Solly Stables has to offer you. You will be pleasantly surprised!

Most recently when they had their annual open house so I could show my baby the horses. The workers are nice and so are the owners of the horses. You can tell they are very well taken care of and happy. Some have been rescued from abusive situations and are lucky to have found themselves there. I definitely recommend stopping by. Just be careful when petting them. There is one that does not like to be touched because of his abusive background.
