7/2026: First time here and we enjoyed it. I was a bit hesitant because of the mixed reviews but overall happy with my decision. We received a basket of warm bread basket that included dinner rolls, zucchini bread and corn pudding bread all were good and fresh. I had a cup of their Vegetable Beef soup and it was truly full of vegetables and flavorful. I then choose the meatloaf special, my go to diner entree. It came with two sides. They have a large selection of sides. I choose the house made mashed potatoes and the beet salad(pickled). Gravy accompanied both meat and potatoes. I have to admit and picture shows it , the gravy doesn't look like much but it actually is tasty. The meatloaf was a huge portion and flavored nicely. It was pretty much all beef. I enjoyed a meatloaf sandwich for lunch the next day with my leftovers. The mashed potatoes were creamy homemade. The beet salad was nicely pickled and not overpowering. My dinner companion had the ham steak with pineapple accompanied with mashed sweet potatoes and cottage cheese with fruit. The ham steak was thick cut and huge and tasted really good. She had leftovers as well. She enjoyed it! The only thing she didn't eat was the grapefruit sections in the fruit topped cottage cheese. I wanted to try their bread pudding but they had run out. But I was given the chance to try something else, their pies included a chocolate meringue. I had never heard of that before, next time gonna try it. It was good comfort food with friendly efficient service. My party of three enjoyed their choices and we all agreed we would be back. read more

We stopped by here while passing through traveling on the coastal route back to Virginia. The buffet was ok. It really was not the best in the end. It was lackluster. Nothing wowed any of us. I'm beginning to wonder if I should have ordered off the menu. Now I never ordered off the menu so I can not speak on that. This was also in a Sunday morning so I can not report on the lunch and dinner items. Maybe that's the time to visit But, the staff at the front. They were great. So kind! Our waiter was ok. So this is your typical old style diner type place. The fried chicken is amazing and fried to order so there is a memo on the menu for a 20 minute cook time. The service is pretty consistent and while the inside is dated it's pretty clean. I'd give it 5 stars for what it is ... but they have Italian dishes like Alfredo on the menu which isn't good. Somethings have changed at this place, so it's not great like it used to be but it's still very very good. During the week they have all you can eat specials, which are always fantastic. And honestly, I never asked for a second plate because they pile the first plate high. Service is always fantastic and it's something that I look forward to doing once her choice a month as I have been for the past three years. read more

My sister and I stopped by here on the way back to Philly, and we both enjoyed our meals. I had the shrimp scampi which was delicious. Plenty of garlicky broth for the shrimp and fettuccini! My sister really enjoyed her Chesapeake Chicken - plenty of crab meat and she enjoyed the Imperial sauce, as well. She said the chicken breast was done just right. The presentations our our platters made them look enticing - we couldn't wait to dig in! We did start with potato skins which were yummy! Our side salads were crispy and fresh. Our waitress was very friendly, helpful and funny. I look forward to going again during my trips back and forth from VA To Pa! Check them out! I was on the way back from Ocean City Maryland driving north on US 113, and saw Doyle's Restaurant along the way. It was lunch time so I thought I'd stop and get some lunch. There a traffic light right at the restaurant so it was easy to get across the highway to it. Lots of parking. On entry everything looked clean and neat. Was greeted promptly and offered choice of seats. The server arrived promptly to get my beverage order. There was a small board with specials listed on the way to the dining room with one of them being a Reuben sandwich with fries. I opted that special. The food came out very quickly and was piping hot. Fries were good, similar to most diners (probably frozen precuts), and a good sized serving. The Reuben itself had good flavor, but the meat was sliced a bit thick, and some parts were a little tough, so not great. The rye bread was lightly toasted, but one side seemed a little soggy, probably from sauerkraut juice. All the servers were very friendly and checked on customers frequently. All in all not a bad experience but a little disappointing. I'd give them another chance next time I come through. read more

Beware...look for hair before you start your meal!!! I ordered the fried chicken special. The first plate comes out with a hair on it. Sent it back. The second plate comes out and was so dry because it was so overcooked. I ate a couple of bites and I was done. Told the waiter I was not not happy about my meal. Never asked if I wanted anything else. A manager never come over to apologize. Every restaurant I have ever been has always comped my meal after finding a hair in the meal. We stopped in for an early dinner. I ordered the chicken and dumplings and my husband ordered the sliced roast beef. My meal was tasteless. The chicken was ok, the dumplings were overcooked and flavorless. My meal was bearly warm. I had to send it back to be heated.. I had a side of green beans that tasted like they had sugar on them. My husband's dinner was also bad. The roast beef was fatty and gristly. The plate was over flowing with gravy. We will never go back. read more

My sister and I stopped for dinner on the way home from VA. I got chicken Chesapeake it was very tasty , would definitely get it again ! The most horrible experience from the freezer burnt mozzarella sticks, the fatty, dried out roast beef, $1 menu tasting burger and very rude wait staff when I had the gull to show them the fatty roast beef. Never never again. Shouldn't have trusted a diner. read more

Stopped here on our way back to Virginia from Philly in our motor home. Their parking lot was big enough for us to park with our coach & towed vehicle without having to back up, which is the reason we chose Doyle's. Make no mistake though the food will bring us back if we are ever in this area. My husband got a create your own omelet & the grandson got chocolate chip pancakes & both said they were great. I got a spinach salad with grilled shrimp & lemon meringue pie. My salad was excellent (if you aren't a fan of old bay seasoning you might want to omit the shrimp) & the pie was phenomenal! The atmosphere was fun too, one side had an old dinner feel while the other side showed the expansion over the years with lots of antiques & a homey feel. And the staff was very friendly. read more

My stomach hurts. Perhaps I shouldn't have ordered the vanilla pudding here. But wait -- I didn't; it was the French toast, uncooked, mostly liquid. At least it was a nice distraction from the funeral home decor surrounding the interior at ol' Doyle's. Maybe if it was indeed a funeral home, I wouldn't be subjected to the mushy pork 'special,' delivered to our table in a speedy 42 minutes. I want to apologize to our waitress for this review -- and for the tip we had to leave. It wasn't her fault. Presumably, it was the chef's; I'd need a doctorate in forensic science to pinpoint the ingredients he threw into my breakfast. When it came time for the check, we knew it would be a battle -- and it was. The Great Battle of Selbyville. Doyle's won, in more ways than one. Food and service are both awful. They do zero substitutions and the wait staff is incredibly rude.

No, just no. No. Don't make me go there ever again. The breakfast buffet is pathetic. There were chicken fingers and home fries, but both were burnt. The pancakes in the buffet look different from the ones served by the table, as if they came out of a box in the frozen food aisle. The bathroom was a bit scary with a baby's changing table that had fabric on it. Who knows what is growing on that thing. This was a last resort. read more

We stopped into Doyle's by chance and very glad we did. I can certainly see why they have been in buisness since 1952. Samantha is a wonderful , pleasant and personable waitress. We pulled into McDonald's and they just ended breakfast so we got back in the car and when we got to the intersection to get back on the road, DOYLE'S was front and center! From the outside it looks all beat up so we knew the food would be awesome!!!! And it was!!!!! Huge spinach, jalepeno, Swiss omlette, crispy home fries, biscuit, pancakes, apple syrup, eggs over easy, bacon, and a huge slice of Virginia ham. It doesn't get better than this!! The other review said their server wasn't friendly...we might've gotten the same one but we didn't mind it either way. She was on top of our order and was attentive enough. FOOD WAS GREAT! Second time there and last. We have been passing the sign advertising chicken and dumplings for a few years and always wanted to try it. Today we decided to stop in and wow what a huge disappointment. Chicken was tasteless, and the dumplings were actually overcooked, mushy noodles. Ugh neither of us could eat it. I would give Doyle's a 3.5. It's a cute diner atmosphere. The food was good but it could have been hotter; soup was luke warm and entree was warm. I would have expected to see steam coming from the ravioli. My mom had chicken tenders and while they were good, they could have been cooked a little longer. My last visit here was a year ago almost to the day. Just like last time we were on our way back from Philly and wanted to get some lunch. Doyle's had really left a good impression on us during the previous visit so we decided to stop in again. We elected to eat in the diner area this time instead of one of the dining rooms off to the site. The diner is cool. It definitely takes you back to a bygone era with old signs and even the seats on the booths have an old vinyl with a sort of metallic red in them. The diner area itself is not the kitchen though, it's more of a coffee and desert counter. They make shakes there as well. Mom elected to have the same thing she has last time, a club sandwich with a side of apple sauce instead of fries. I decided to give one of their burgers a try. I wish I hadn't. When our meals came out they looked great. I knew though as soon as I too a bite of my burger that I was eating frozen puck. The meat was unseasoned and tasteless and unfortunately no amount of pepper or mustard could fix it. I ate it, it filled the void, that's about it. Mom on the other hand was very happy with her club which had thick slices of turkey on it and of course her fresh applesauce. Our service was good and the server we had kept the drinks full and followed up with us regularly. So overall, if you want a burger, I'd recommend passing on that here and going with another sandwich or one of the specials. read more

Classic diner.....except: coffee is burnt, eggs, any way you order, are dry, no taste; bacon, amazingly thin strips, are greasy; home fries are.......not sure how to describe other than frozen squares of potato warmed in a microwave; biscuits are dry, cold, no sure they were baked same day. I only eat in the Silk City box car part of the diner because of the cool, retro atmosphere. The first visit here, I had the broiled flounder entree' with steamed broccoli, dinner roll with butter, and a tiny little piece of their homemade cornbread. It didn't disappoint me, other than the tiny little cornbread, as the Cajun spiced flounder was moist, and tender. The steamed broccoli was just average. The dinner roll was a nice touch. They should call it cornbread popper, because of its size. Second visit, I ordered the grinder with fries. Pretty darn good, and I really like their French fries. read more

i don't eat a lot of fried foods but Doyle's has the Best Fried Chicken on the shore. Crispy, tasty and not greasy.

Carol is always amazing and we love sitting in the old diner car. Food is always consistent.

I would give them no stars if I could. Friends of mine and I were going to go to Doyle's for dinner. One of the friends is blind with a guide dog. They got to the restaurant a before me. My friend went in and told the hostess that there would be 4 of us and a service dog. She was told that the service dog was not allowed in the restaurant. Doyle's management do you realize the federal disability act allows service dog to be anywhere their person is and you cannot legally deny them service. Federal law over rules your rules. You cannot deny service to anyone that has a legal service dog even if you can't physically see their disability. Some dog are for detecting seizures and low insulin to save people lives. I understand that people are abusing the emotional support animal but that is not your call Doyle's. NOT COOL DOYLE'S. read more

Was excited to try this family restaurant with so much history. Left disappointed and dejected. Food took forever to come to the table (or any other tables in the places) and when we asked the waitress if our food was ready her snarky response: "If it was ready, I would've served it to you!" When she finally brought the food, her response: "Here it is. You want it?" She also failed to give us condiments and when we tried to bring the poor service to the manager's attention he told us to "leave or he'll call the cops." Really? We weren't causing a scene or anything. I didn't even mention the dead flies on the window sills near the table. In any case, I found some solace in reading that others had experienced the same treatment from this place. I only wished I had read the reviews prior to going here. Don't make the same mistake.
