I'm stuck. I have writers block...I'm speechless for the first time in a long time. I'm sitting…read morehere, trying to figure out how the heck to write a review of the most random and yet most awesome taxi cab on the planet. I guess I'll just write my experience and hope that all of you get the opportunity at some point in your life to take a ride in the Karaoke Taxi Cab.
It was a warm day on this recent Fourth of July holiday weekend, and five crazy boys and yours truly needed a cab from Redondo out to Hermosa for a comedy show and bar hopping. We called local companies and attempted to get a van cab for our large party, when out of no where, a normal sized cab car blasting pop music pulled in front of the house.
"Let me handle this guys, he won't say no to a girl" I told the boys as I made my way to the driver, hiking my skirt up a bit to solidify my case. "Hi there, I'm Lynsey, what's your name?" I extended my hand.
"I'm Mufasa, the karaoke taxi man!" the man replied. Not hearing the second part of his title, I instantly inquired if it was Mufasa like the Lion King. He said yes, and agreed to let six people file in the car as long as I sat next to him basically on top of the gear shift. No problem.
So we all hopped in, four in the back, two of us in the front, and we began our magical journey to Hermosa. This is where it gets good people. The taxi has karaoke!! I know, I know...you're probably asking, how? The cabbie handed back two microphones to the boys and mini video camera to me. "I post the videos on Facebook," he tells me, "can you be my camera woman?" But of course...
So the boys type in their song selection into the buttons on the microphone from a small book of options, then the back of the front seat head rests become TV's broadcasting the lyrics. No joke.
"Red red wiiiiiine, thoughts of you relieve my heeeead," we began to chant into the microphone "I was lost, now I've found just one thing makes me forget....Red red wiiiiiiine." as our voices were amplified through speakers on the outside of the car. This ability quickly turned into the heckling and oogling of "hot chicks" on bikes and foot passing our cab. But I digress.
We continued on, singing happily on our drive to Hermosa bars. Upon arrival, Mufasa asked if I was married. No. Boyfriend? Umm, not really (with a giggle of course). Add me on Facebook? Duh.
So friends, please look up the Karaoke Taxi Cab Southbay anytime you find yourself in the the Redondo/PV/Hermosa area...you'll be in for the ride of your life. And, watch out, you will probably end up in a video on Facebook.
