We'd just finished a delicious dinner at Union and were walking towards Queen when we spotted this cool-looking wine bar. After a couple seconds worth of deliberations, we decided to pop in and have a quick drink. I'm really glad we did because Downtown Winery is awesome. We weren't too hungry and obviously we had to get some wine, so I decided to try one of their wine flights. I went with the Ménage a trois ("a white wine tags along on a red wine date. pinot gris * pinotage * meritage"), and the wine was brought to the table a few minutes later. I would definitely consider myself a casual wine drinker; I can distinguish good wine from bad, but that's about the extent of it. The three wines presented all seemed very much above average, and they complemented each other beautifully. (I liked the presence of complimentary corn nuts on the table, too. It's always nice to have something to snack on while drinking.) I could definitely see myself returning to Downtown Winery for a more involved experience. It's a really cool little place.

Stumbled across this winery by accident as I was walking down ossington on my way to dinner. When we finished and wanted a night cap, we walked over here and we're pleasantly greeted. We were seated right away and served as well. My only heartburn was their pricing was downtown restaurant vs what you'd expect at a winery. None the less, a great experience on an impromptu visit!

What a great spot on Ossington! It looks so unassuming from the outside, but a pure delight inside! Unpretentious but cute, a fabulous place to try some amazing wines (happy hour from 2-6pm everyday!) A pretty impressive wine list, with some wines made in house. I truly enjoyed all the ones I tried - especially the Dourado. Apparently this a crowd favourite and I can see why - light and fruity without any heavy aftertaste, just a palate delight! They do have a small food menu- mainly snacks, popcorn, lupini (a Portuguese snack...a bean type of snack...something like edamame in terms of how you eat it , as explained to me), cheese board...etc etc All the staff are friendly and can offer suggestions for wines. They do flights as well, so lots of options to try different ones

Downtown Winery, located on Ossington near Queen St. W., is a family-owned and operated winery, wine/snack bar, and bottle shop. They open almost daily where they have happy hour deals from 2-6pm. They have a great selection of small bites to share while sipping on your wine. They also do have non-alcoholic options as well on their menu. I stopped by Downtown Winery on a Thurs afternoon around 5pm. The place was not packed but there were still a few parties enjoying drinks and chatting. I sat down and was given ample time to look at the menu. I opted for an 8oz glass of Syrah. Each table also came with a bowl of snacks, which was great. My wine tasted great as well. Service was friendly and attentive the staff came by several times to make sure I was taken care of. Overall, great relaxing place for drinks with friends. Definitely a nice chill vibe and a place where you can either come alone to enjoy a glass or to catch up with friends.

Had the pleasure to do the private wine tasting with Aimee. Aimee took great care of my partner and I from beginning to end and teaching how to go through a tasting. Selections of food to pair definitely paired well with the wines selected and when tried mixing it around it was apparent that I lacked the knowledge. Ambiance was spacious and relaxed. Great for a date night!

I did wine tasting with Aimee. She was great! Extremely friendly and passionate about her work. It was a wonderful experience. They have a wide selection of wines and snacks as well as small bites you can order to go with your tasting.

Cozy, hip, nice ambience, friendly knowledgeable staff. Extensive wine menu and pretty good snack options to pair with the wine. Wine flight options are fantastic and the wine can be bought in full bottles as well. Love that they have the option to sit at a table, sofa, bar, or patio. Highly recommend and will come back again!

    Delicious wine flights!

She left the worst note to our trip. We declared and opened the trunk to show one bag of apples were picked $45 pre paid at entrance. She demanded she organise the bag as it spilled in trunk in our laundry basket and claimed we had 2-3 more apples over the limit. I asked calmly if she wanted to take them out, and she snarked she'll let us have them. To be clear, our bag wasn't even close to brimming like most others. She also pulled this to the cars in front of us. Our friends being there a week previously said another staff was much nicer but they've encountered this old timer and got the same treatment Despite the crusty senior, this place is worth the drive to. No fighting crowds for tractor rides to the picking fields, or searching for a variety that's over picked. Prices are per car/bag $45 for 20 lbs of apples, another bag is $45 that is prepaid at entrance. Entrance off the single lane dirt road is a bit sudden, no warning signs the orchard is coming.

We drove up to Niagara-on-the-Lake as I had good things about that area. I asked a local what wineries recommended and was told about Peller. There are about 40 wineries to choose from in Niagara-on-the-Lake, and Peller Estates ended up being an excellent one. We drove up to a large estate with fields. Bartender was friendly. We asked about wine tastings. Bartender mentioned how Canada has ice wine, which American wineries don't have. She let us sample it to see if we liked, which we did and opted to just get the ice wine. Wow, that was a delicious white wine! I wish we had that in the US. But in general, much of the US climate is too warm for ice wine. The grapes are out there to freeze solid. Ice wine needs to be picked below 18 F (-8 C). In Maryland where I live, winter can get cold, but it's inconsistent, some years barely any days below 18 F in Baltimore. Ideally, you want multiple days in a row for a more sustained freeze instead of rushing out for the few hours it might get down to 15 F. On the flip side, it can be too cold in northern Minnesota (where it easily gets below 5 F or -15 C often, which is the lower temp limit) or upstate NY. Also, heavy lake effect snow like that often occurs in Buffalo is problematic. It's a specific microclimate of the Niagara peninsula near Lake Ontario, where it gets cold but not extremely cold too often, not many heavy snowfalls. In the US, near Lake Erie is the sweet spot for ice wine in southwest NY, northern PA, & northeastern OH. Also, northern Michigan near Great Lakes as well as the Finger Lakes region of NY. The lakes moderate the temperatures in the winter if winery is positioned south of the lake, but needs to also be in an area not prone to be slammed by heavy Lake Effect snows like Buffalo. We wanted to sit on the outside, but there was a private event being setup. We sat at a nice table inside the beautiful estate. Afterward, we brought our glasses back to the bartender thanking her and saying the ice wine was excellent. She took the glasses back and said here are 2 clean glasses to take with you thanking us for our visit. This was an excellent experience. Highly recommend a visit to Peller Estates!

Room furniture is made from ice. Room is cool, literally and figuratively. Probably the justification for the high tour price. Small sample of cheapest ice wine they sell. Tour ends in the store, what a surprise. I asked to try a different version of the ice wine, tried it, liked it, decided to buy a bottle. Note this was a bit more expensive than the cheap wine we tried. I asked to try a Gamay red wine, tried it, liked it, decided to buy a bottle. Note this was a more expensive than the cheap red wine we tried. I asked to try a different version of the red wine, but this time a different lady said I had to pay $7 for the 1 ounce sample. She also seemed to want to charge me for the previous two 1 ounce samples. I did try it and liked it, and decided to buy a bottle. Note this was even a bit more expensive than the previous wine i bought. Two issues with their sampling pricing. 1. It works out to about $35-40 a glass for a normal glass. that's a lot. 2. Why does the customer have to pay to try a wine they might want to buy. The tour only shows cheap wines so it does not show off any really good, or more pricey, wines. Seem like short sighted marketing to me. Conclusion = over priced tourist trap.

The maple flavored Whiskeys were awesome and rich with flavor while being very smooth to sip. I tried the Butter Pecan Cream (kind of like Baileys) which was a favorite as well. The prices are very reasonable especially with the exchange rate. They have gift shops where wines, whiskey, creams can all be purchased. They also have shirts and other items.
