This renovation has brought some new businesses and has revived some of the existing ones. It's a fun place to visit if you are a local when they have their events. Sadly, there are still not many businesses to make it as popular as other cities nearby. Some events Old Town Pittsburg hosts are the Farmer's Market, the Thursday night car shows, and the Pittsburg Seafood Festival which are cheap or free to attend. If they could bring some more restaurants/bars or other activities, this area would come alive! It still has a lot of potential!

Everyone at Public Works worked so hard to make this happen on time. From Daniel who was in the office Thursday afternoon to "Micki" (?) on the phone Thursday afternoon to Ken the supervisor to the lady working the front counter on Monday morning, to whoever was answering my zillions of panicked emails and comments on their website, everyone was so understanding, helpful, and efficient. Their contractors who showed up and actually worked on the tree were awesome too! I'm extremely happy to be living in Fairfield right now. Thank you Public Works.

Known for Travis Air Force Base and the Jelly Belly Factory. I think my daughter had field trips to the Jelly Belly Factory?!?! I was never a chaperone for that... My wife used to take my daughter here often, really to shop at the Vacaville outlets. Tours used to be free, I believe they are $8 an adult now. It is the location of Travis Air Force Base and the headquarters of Jelly Belly. The population was 119,881 at the 2020 census. Today I discovered my new favorite Bahn Mi Sandwich place - Sai Gon Nho! See other Review (5 Stars). But in summary, not much to do. The best is to go next door to Vacaville. Another nearby city is Vallejo. If you are following, I have been spending more time in that city also. Just noticed that I do not have a review on that city?!?! Atmosphere - 41.4 square miles, 0.26 of which is water. 2020 population - 129k. Jobs Obviously the # 1 employer is our government with the Travis Air Base here. Hearing that train whistle late night is not the business; especially when you are trying to sleep. Also, further away from the freeway. The homes are a little more expensive, newer, and larger (sq. ft. wise). The parks are more family friendly for actual play time. Although it's "nicer", it doesn't say much for Pittsburg. What is considered "nicer" is what others would probably call normal. Nothing fancy. There is occasional riffraff and ghetto folks but it's not as visual as midtown or downtown Pittsburg has come along way from it's negative stigma. So I'm not so anxious when people ask me where I live. Uptown is primarily a residential area with a small strip mall. It's also close to more shopping in the city of Antioch which is very convenient.

Native born residents include Olympic swimmer Natalie Coughlin, Grammy and Oscar winning artist H.E.R. and familial roots for Zendaya whose father is from Vallejo though she grew up in neighboring Oakland. It's a small place but there is a good amount of seating. As soon as you walk in you can see the menu. You can also see the refrigerator with all the fresh food. The man who helped us was very nice and helpful. I like that you can create your own sandwich place. I also loved that they had pepperchinis. The Dutch crunch bread was delicious. The portions are generous and they put a lot of meat. It is a little pricey but they definitely make up for it in the size of the sandwich. It was very filling I ate on half for lunch and the other for dinner. Definitely worth checking out sandwiches are delicious!

Living in the Bay Area, we are lucky enough to have it right in our backyard. My partner and I have not taken our good fortune for granted, and have spent many weekends and mini-vacations in Napa. Napa Valley is a place of relaxation, romance, enjoyment, and incredible natural beauty. It is the perfect reprieve from the stressors of urban life. A short trip from the Bay Area, but a different world. In accordance with the serene environment, the locals of Napa Valley are so welcoming, and genuinely kind. We have experienced so much kindness from the people here, even total strangers. Truly some of the nicest people we have met. One time we pulled over on the road to get something from the trunk of our car. A truck pulled up in front of us, and in all our urbanite disillusionment, we were both sure something nefarious was about to go down. Instead, an incredibly nice gentleman came up to us and asked if we needed any assistance, being on the side of the road and all. We were floored. Napa Valley is one of the world's premier wine-growing regions, so obviously the area's many outstanding wineries are a huge draw. Our favorites include Trefethen, Paraduxx, Duckhorn (Paraduxx's older, more stoic sibling), Vine Cliff, Rutherford Hill, Pine Ridge, Conn Creek, and Black Stallion. Fun fact: if you go to Black Stallion, you will find a picture of my partner in the tasting room from his horse-riding days when what is now Black Stallion used to be an equestrian center! Napa Valley is also the destination for many incredible eateries. Most notably, the world-famous French Laundry, which we have had the privilege of dining at multiple times. Take a look at my review for The French Laundry for more about this very special restaurant. Another restaurant I would highly recommend, in the heart of downtown Napa, is Cole's Chop House. Unparalleled service and food in a classic steakhouse atmosphere. The owner Eric is wonderful, and you can usually find him on the floor of the restaurant, actively checking in on everything. I don't even eat steak, but this is one of my favorite restaurants; they have the best salmon I have ever had in a restaurant, hands down; I order it every time. If you go to Cole's, ask for Andrea & Richard's corner table, and you will find our picture on the wall. While you're in downtown Napa, check out a very sweet little store called Miyamo on 1st Street. Beautiful gifts to get for yourself or others, especially the bracelets with different sayings on them. I have a collection of them and wear them constantly. Oh, one more place to add to your list, also in downtown Napa, is Downtown Joe's. Right on the Napa River, this is both a great place to party/karaoke late into the night, and enjoy a leisurely all-American breakfast at in the morning. When looking at places to stay, the Indigo is our usual go-to. Fairly-priced, it meets our needs and is a short Uber ride away from downtown Napa and many wineries in the area. Speaking of Uber, listen to your ride-share drivers, they have a lot of good recommendations to share about the places to check out (and occasionally avoid) in the area. I can't say enough about the Napa Valley in one review, but feel free to message me if you want more recommendations. This magical part of Northern California has kept me sane throughout many years of living in the rat race. I can't wait for our next visit.

There are lots of spas and Calistoga, the northernmost city in Napa Valley, is known for its geothermal hot springs and mud baths. It's an excellent place for relaxation with stunning vineyard views. If you are a foodie, you will love the restaurants in Napa Valley. The food is so fresh and flavorful. If you are into hiking and being in nature, there are plenty of places for that as well! I would consider Yountville the most upscale city in Napa Valley. All of the towns are charming with the town of Napa being the most city like. There are plenty of places to shop as well. For all of these reasons and more, it's an excellent place for a girls getaway, romantic couples getaway, and so much more! The biggest drawback in my personal opinion is that since this is a destination location, it comes with a price and things can add up with resort fees and other fees that come along with it being a destination location and the prices of things having gone up over the years significantly.

A passel of patriots plied the portals of perfection for a handful of hours last night, passing from place to place, pleasing our palate with the plenty poured ... Stop. Sorry. It was a lot of fun. A dozen or so eateries and shops and a piano store to visit, each with a small sample of their fare or something they brought to get us in the door. The crowd wasn't huge, the beneficiary of the gate a lovely organization about which I'd like to learn more. I think I liked those little sausages in a taco proffered at Stelle Bistro the best of all. While my big hands made the sausages look so small once I wrapped my lips around them there was no turning back. I had two. They were so good. Nique, Jayzee, 'Nessa and I tripped those lights fantastically. The evening's end on the couches at Residual Sugar sipping the bubbles thank you very much for the bubbles, my dear, was as pleasant a group together as I've had in a very long time. We didn't Gallop. We strolled. We're from Oakland, after all.

Just to show my support. The great thing about this event was that it began at one of my favorite places, Massimo! We checked in, started out with a serving of Cesar salad, pasta, and garlic bread. A good starting location, as you explored that map and scheduled your adventure. I've already done over half of the places listed, like: Massimo, Walnut Creek Yacht Club, Lark Creek, Hamachi, SF Creamery Company, Lottie's Creamery, Silk Road, The Counter, and Peet's Coffee. But I would have to highlight where I stopped: ~Massimo's soft penne pasta bolognese! Perfect! ~WC Yacht Club's watermelon gazpacho with shrimp and pine nuts! Delish! ~Lottie's served up some floats! Loved the root beer and orange flavored soda! ~Silk Road had some fresh hummus and flatbread with chicken pomegranate. This was some serious stuff! I should've asked for a second serving. ~The Counter: Sweet potato, onion strings, and parmesan garlic fries. Ok, but not a fan. Highlights of new places I've never stepped foot in, until now: ~Steinway Piano Gallery - Served up some wine from Las Positas Vineyards. Sorry, didn't like the wine, but loved the background music from the pianist. ~SkinSpirit - Serving Laughing Glass Cocktails and L'Artisan Gourmet Parisian Macarons. Unfortunately I gave up drinking, but gave the drink a sip and knew it was too good for me to finish. As for the macarons, they were OK only a little too soft for me. ~54 Mint Forno - Wow, my third favorite stop. A new WC bakery discovery. Loved the samples, but recommend everyone to take home one of their quiche's. Egg buttery goodness! ~Opa! - My second favorite stop. Why? Because everyone should try their spanakopita. Super flaky and made just right. As was their dolmas. It wasn't overly lemony like most places make it. Damn near perfect! ~We Olive - MY FAV! Enjoyed the ladies that helped me out. I sampled everything and very much plan to come back. This place gets its own personal highlights because of the variety of balsamic and olive oils. Ellen displaying her Chubtastic Wine Bottle Art as well. I wish I knew of this place long ago. Oh, and the brownie/wine combo...mmm!!! Overall, if you haven't really explored Walnut Creek, then this would have been a great opportunity to do so. And also a great way of showing your support for the hard working ballet students. I personally prefer Sonoma County more than Napa Valley because it is so charming and has a small town feel that I love. It feels less crowded and more laid back, which I also love. The Sonoma Plaza is in the heart of town and this area is very quaint and charming. This is a perfect area to sip and stroll, shop, enjoy the amazing restaurants, and/or to enjoy a picnic. The city of Sonoma is also great for both foodies and wine lovers. The vineyard views in this town are also absolutely gorgeous. There are lots of amazing wineries if you enjoy wine tasting. There are lots of farm to table restaurants that are amazing as well as events throughout the year that are fun to partake in. You can also take a hot air balloon ride and soar above the vineyards. There are spas if you are looking to relax and this is an excellent spot for a girls getaway. If you enjoy hiking, there are lots of places to enjoy within a short drive. There is also the Sonoma Overlook Trail which is an easy loop that offers panaramic views of the town and the valley below.

Napa has evolved into a much more commercial and bougie destination that I can see the glaring changes each decade brings. I mean I will still visit the Napa area, but if given the choice, I will take Sonoma any day. I've been preferring this wine valley over on Hwy 12 versus the one on Hwy 29. The actual town of Sonoma is very quaint with good California history in its tow. And I don't find it as pretentious as Napa and their neighboring appellations like Yountville and Calistoga. I have stayed in small hotels, camped, hiked, wine tasted and dined at many places in or nearby Sonoma. And on every visit, I always make an effort on spending some time near their main square where there are several beautiful parks with shady mature trees, beautiful rustic buildings, lots of great places to eat/drink and just people watch. A great local gem for a getaway where I don't have to significantly travel. Been in my back pocket since the early 90s. And still madly in love with it. Trust.
