It pains me to leave a mere two-star review but I couldn't find much to like here. The quaint…read moreambience, friendly service (we were one of the first guests to arrive on a Friday morning mid-May) and fresh brewed decaf were the highlights. The food, which is most important, was a big disappointment. I am a cinnamon roll connoisseur and was so excited to try the rolls that past Yelpers raved about. They were out of caramel today so we ordered the grilled roll with pecans and homemade buttercream frosting. It looked dry and tasted even drier. Barely warm, flourey and tasteless. The frosting was the best part. The menu of choices looks wonderful and diverse for a small cafe. I was delighted to see shrimp and grits. The skillet was very small, the food was hot (a plus) but it was heavy on the grits, which lacked flavor and space on shrimp (only 4), sausage and sauce. I ate the toppings with half the grits and left the rest. My husband ordered the hoagie sandwich with hash browns. His comment was "a lot of bread and minimal filling" with "luke warm" hash browns that were more spongy than crispy. It's hard to go wrong with breakfast, but somehow Lazy Toaster has missed the mark. The concept is fun, the menu is great, yet the recipes and preparation could use some major improvements. The tab ($41 for two) was not bad, but was high for the quality. We liked the decor yet felt the cleanliness was lacking (sticky floors and no paper towels in the bathroom). A breakfast place in East Tawas is a plus; I hope this cafe commits to some improvements and stays around.

Probably the only complaint is that the hashbrowns aren't brown enough, but that's my particular taste. On busy days, I recommend getting there before 9 o'clock, it gets pretty busy and it's small so the weight can be a little bit long. I wish they had a few more healthy options. I like avocado toast but there's is lacking. It's just a piece of toast with some avocado spread on top, no seasoning, very bland. Also kind of small.

We haven't always found the food to be reliable, but it looks as though their menu has been changed and simplified. There used to be a crazy variety of heavy cream sauce dishes, liver and onions and Italian dishes - the overly wide variety you know can't all be homemade. (NOTE THAT A LOT OF NEGATIVE REVIEWS ARE FROM YEARS AGO.) The new menu is more focused and pared down. Our first taste of the new offerings was via room service on our 20th anniversary. (Room service menu is limited, food comes out of the same kitchen.) I enjoyed my BBQ brisket, my husband said his burger looked okay but had no flavor. Quality of beef is everything in a good restaurant burger, people! Fries were like McDonald's. We shared a Greek antipasto with an enormous slab of good feta cheese, cucumbers, pickled beets, Greek olives, marinated peppers, avocado, red onions and a sweet champagne lemon dressing that was homemade. There was only a bit of spring greens mix, but I can't complain as this wasn't described as a "salad". The brisket was smoked well and was pretty tender. The sweet BBQ sauce caramelized really well with the fat (it's not a lean cut of meat) and produced a great flavor-texture combination. Husband tasted it and agreed it was the best thing to ever come out of Topsiders. We live in East Tawas and have eaten here dozens of times. Old Topsiders was 2.5 - 3.0 stars. New Topsiders a 3.6 - 4.0 stars so far. We have very few solid choices here, so this is exciting! Appreciate the updates, look forward to more. Pleasantly surprised and quite happy!

We just left Mom in the nursing home dining room and we are driving and I said I am getting a little hungry! So, I make the executive decision to eat at a restaurant with a view of Lake Huron! Lo and Behold there was a resort by the name Tawas Bay Beach Resort and I am sure that they have a restaurant with a fine view of Lake Huron. So, we decide to stop there. The outside was quite nice it sort of reminded me of any other fine Hotel. So we enter by where the restaurant is located and go into the restaurant area. Quite a few people were seated already. Me and my sister thought that maybe there was a family reunion going on at this particular resort. We are seated near a window overlooking Lake Huron. We see sailboats and people on the beach. Very calming and beautiful! The waiter comes out and gives us menus and takes our drink order. Very nice young man, his name is Jake. He takes our food order. We both order a chicken BLT sandwich and it comes with fries. We sit there and take in the ambiance. It is a little loud because there were children, but that is all good! The waiter shared a story about a bald eagle diving for fish in Lake Huron which was quite amusing. He mentioned that he loved his job and it showed through his service. The only thing that he missed was our silverware! But, that was easily solved. I mentioned to him that we do YELP reviews and the next thing you know we both receive a Cannoli on the house! How wonderful. Definitely will go back and if I am not hungry I will just order the Cannoli - OMG it was like heaven on earth! See pictures that I am attaching - definitely a do again especially since the sunrise side has so very few fine dining!

Ive honestly never had someone so bothered with their job. 1st time meeting 2 family members and we wanted to chat for a few minutes. She came back 3 times after we asked for a moment. Last time she said are you actually ready to order yet? Food was sub par at best. Restaurant was dirty. Burger, philly steak, and French dip sandwich were not good. Over microwaved meat with dry bread. Mamas big breakfast wasn't terrible, eggs had an odd taste. Bill for 2 came to $44. Waitress was given $60 then was reluctant to give the change back. Yea you're definitely not getting over a 30% tip for nasty and rude service. Find another job if you're unhappy. 4th time going there. WILL NOT BE BACK

Two cozy dining areas with ample seating arrangements to choose from. One room has a lovely view of the bay. Perfect way to start the day. We were greeted with big smiles and received lots of attention from our server. The staff here are well trained. They hustle and still connect with customers. Most important in the morning.... Hot coffee, fresh brewed and it kept on coming. They know how to win hearts. The menu offered lots of choices. We were hungry and felt very satisfied with our dishes. The shrimp and grits were so cheesy and flavorful. Lots of toppings and really good sized shrimp. It was nice that it also came with toast or English muffin. My husband had the hearty breakfast with a little of everything. He said it was excellent. We had to try their warm grilled cinnamon bun. Yummy! Almost too much food to eat. It was so good we managed to devour it all. Reasonable prices made the experience a win-win. Looking forward to trying heir lunch menu.

Finally pulled the trigger and stopped here and was quite pleased with the quality of my meal and the friendly service I received at this business. My Western omelet I ordered was well made, quite tasty and packed with the ingredients this omellete calls for. The potatoes the omelet comes with is a choice between the normal hash browns and the seasoned Home Potatoes where I chose the latter. These potatoes are really not much to look at which can be deceiving as they were quite tasty in their own right and definately something you should try if you come here for breakfast. Relative to facility it is definately a bit on the rustic side but clean and offers seating along the lake with those amazing views of Lake Huron which are hard to beat. Staff as mentioned is very friendly with great follow up where I never saw the bottom of my coffee cup due to the prompt refills. Nice! Overall a great option for breakfast where I will definately be returning in the near future!

Homemade fried potatoes, ample chunks of meat and eggs over medium that brought together all the flavors. The toast, rye, was yummy. They also have homemade white bread for toast, homemade donuts and cinnamon rolls. Again, another hallmark of a great diner: good cooks and bakers.
