We will start with the positives. Our waitress was quite proud of this establishment and she wore it with pride. I appreciated her passion for her restaurant. As for the food, meh. My husband had a shredded Reuben sandwich. Wait, yes shredded, it was not listed as such but though minimal, what was in the sandwich was shredded. My Michigan salad had four small slices of cold chicken. The remaining ingredients were good. In general, the protein is served light. As noted by another review, the table of locals were beyond obnoxious. I would have liked to have introduced the concept of an inside voice but believe it would have fallen on deaf ears. By the time they departed I was equally aware of their political passions, their beer preferences, how often they use the men's room and how Keno brings them joy. I was invited to come to an open mic. I brought my friends and family keyboard player drummer and ate and was anticipating having a great night. I actually needed a good night . I really needed it. The owner said I couldn't sing and wouldn't let me sing anymore. It's an open mic. I'm trying not to let this ruin my new years eve but I'll never return. Walked in I ordered carry out again, and a beer while I wait. The place was busy, the conditioned air working. Beer while I wait, 2nd beer because they were busy, But, then the bar tender said your wife's order is ready but no one told me we ran out of your order (Ruben burger with onion rings) well quickly let's sub in a plain burger. Got home after third beer to find no onion rings as ordered ...... the chicken gyro was weak maybe 3oz of chicken and the fries soggy. No matter the name of the place they just can't provide the order as advertised. Sad If you can't provide the advertised special order the menu provided item something is wrong. First of all, the food is mediocre. The main problem was that some of the patrons were throwing around racial slurs and talking about immigrants ruining the country. I know this isn't against the law. I do happen to be an Immigrant and I was very offended by the language they used. I even complained to staff. First off, the server Paula...was amazing. 10/10 service from her. She was polite, not pushy and refilled our drinks very fast. And even helped my daughter stay entertained. The 1 star comes from the food. There is not much to eat in this area. But this food was trash. My quesadilla was soggy, fried mushrooms were very very moist, burger was the texture of a hockey puck, and the lettuce from my salad was obviously wet...like dripping wet. I had high hopes for this place. Our waiter was nice, the prices were reasonable. However, we were very disappointed after the first bite. My boyfriend ordered a chicken sandwich that was extremely undercooked. The chicken looked RAW on the inside. This is just completely unacceptable for a restaurant. You can't sell people SALMONELLA SANDWICHES!!!! Not to mention, the cooks can't seem to follow instruction. I asked for NO bacon on my chicken wrap and what did I taste after one bite? Cant get orders right. Went in with family and the waiter didn't even order a dinner that he wrote down. COme ot the table to tell me he didn't place my order and said he could make a "bar" food. Becuase it is after 4pm they can't take carry out orders over the phone because they are busy. Come to the restaurant place an order and wait in an already supposed busy establishment. Been here many many times as we have a cottage there. The food was always amazing....however, that credit goes to the previous owners and management. Since the change over, the service is horrible and the food even worse. The previous owner made things fresh. Homemade onion rings for example. New owner/management, changed over to frozen bc they're lazy. The steak was disgusting to say the least. It was literally 1/4" thick and was all curled up and dry and tough. The "Rachel" sandwich I had tasted weird so I pulled it apart and the turkey was GREEN!!! I'm all for supporting small family run businesses, but this place is now just gross. They always have some excuse why they do things wrong. I just can't support them any longer. I wish them all the best, but food like this is going to get them shut down. We showed up with fourteen people and everyone really enjoyed their food. We had burgers, reubens, cod sandwiches, salads, lemon pepper perch, tater kegs (OMG!), pasta... we ate a lot and all of us were extremely happy. From age 10 to 75, all good reviews. We spend the summers up here and have been coming to Ali's since it opened (and Dunleavy's before Ali bought it). We all agreed that Ali had really brought it to a higher level this year. They have it figured out and the menu had all sorts of good options. For all fourteen of us to be satisfied, including our special diet folks (gluten free), that is something we rarely accomplish. Stopped by on my weeks vacation where I returned to the area of the state I'm originally from, back when Ali's was dunlevys. From the moment I entered the bar I was greeted with a smile from Ryan. From the first sentence shared with me, she was making jokes which made the establishment feel very welcoming. Through conversation I was able to gather that Ali was a wonderful boss who truly cares about her business and her employees- the type of person you do not feel bad about giving them your money. The atmosphere was warm, the drinks were made well (a Robert Roy, and a martini), and the soup was amazing. The drinks and the soup was reasonably priced. I gave the establishment four out of five, because I wasn't thorough enough with the food menu and I was slightly disheartened at the lack of gin and scotch selection. Ali's (the former Dunleavy's Eatery and Pub) is the best place to eat in Au Gres. Hands. Down. Good atmosphere, lots of booths and tables, and great food. The specials are delicious and reasonably priced. There are some activity nights you should take note of: If you choose to go on an NFL game night, there probably will be a lot of folks in there watching on the big screen. With lots of whooping and hollering going on. So if that isn't your thing, don't go during big sports games. lol There are "art" nights, where people come in and paint pictures, and drink together. There are also occasional parties or receptions in the larger area in the rear. I've never been disappointed here yet. Not in the past, or now. read more

Not sure about the food since I left before ordering anything. I looked at the new menu (new owner 2020) and was glad to see a vegetarian burger and sorry to see the Lake Perch gone. But I didn't feel comfortable eating there during a pandemic. No one, not the employees or patrons, wore masks. Have no idea if they wipe down menus or tables with disinfectant but seemingly they take no precautions to protect employees and patrons from possible infection. Stopped in on our way up north for dinner. Walked through the door and was met by a person who sat us and took our drink order. When the drinks came she indicated our server would be right over. We looked at the menu's and made our choice. We waited approximately 10 minutes with no one coming over. I asked the person who got our drinks where our server was, she assured us the server would be right over. Meanwhile, the people sitting across from us said "run, run away while you can". We kind of laughed, waited another 8 minutes (set the timer now at this point) we got up to leave. Gave the bar tender $2 for the ice tea and left. Know the place is at 50% capacity with 4 servers. Shouldn't have to wait 20 minutes to give a food order. We stopped there a couple of years ago with no issues. We went here two nights in a row during a recent fishing trip. I had prime rim the first night and fresh walleye (that we caught), the second night. The atmosphere was nice, staff was friendly and the food was pretty good. Priced fairly, I would recommend it to anyone in town to try. read more
