One statue depicts a starving Irish family during the Great Famine that took place in Ireland between 1845 to 1852, and the other statue is of a prosperous family that immigrated to America. The statues are by New York sculptor Robert Shure and were unveiled on June 28, 1998. I wouldn't go out of my way to visit the memorial, but the plaza is a nice place to sit down and enjoy the sun. This area of Boston is absolutely gorgeous! Fort Point is an affluent waterfront district that sits…read moreright on the Fort Point Channel and overlooks some of Boston's most prominent landmarks. Stunning views of the city and Boston harbor await you here. The Freedom trail inadvertently sent me here after I noticed that I kind of lost the trail. But, what a great mistake it was! I ended up crossing over the Congress street bridge and it led me here. Although it's not as popular as some of Boston's other well known districts, there's actually quite a bit on this side of town. You can find tons of restaurants, shops, museums and several local parks in this area. It's an awesome place to embark on a leisurely city stroll and to take in the views as you wander aimlessly along the clean streets. There's a cute waterfront park that has amazing views of the Boston Tea Party museum the Boston skyline. I can only imagine how stunning Fort Point is at night because it's super stunning during the daytime. The photo ops are endless. Even though this area isn't super popular, it's a nice place to explore when in Boston.

For my 200th review I have decided to review my neighborhood. Let's face it - most people don't…read moreeven know where Fort Point Channel is. I didn't before I started dating a guy who lived there. It's not really South Boston but it's not really the Waterfront either. THE GOOD: -The Children's Museum (I haven't been since I was a kid but the changes they've recently made to it look pretty impressive). - Open Studios and various other art exhibits in the Fort Point Artists' Community. - Dogs. Everywhere. There are at least a couple of very dog friendly buildings in this neighborhood. - The Channel (not to be confused with the former nightclub that was before my time). I mean the actual Channel. It's cool to see & smell part of the ocean daily. And there's a nice walking and/or running path. - It's walking distance to South Station and downtown. - Lucky's Lounge (for no other reason than when people have no idea where you live you can say "I live near Lucky's" and they know what you mean. - It's really close to the airport and the pike going West. Equally close to 93 North & South. - St. Alphonzo's Kitchen - the best food in the most low-key atmosphere. - Sagarino's market. This life saver of a market actually makes you happy to spend $5.00 on a gallon of milk. At least you didn't have to drive to a market to get it. - Parking. Since no one knows where it is, and there isn't much here, it's still pretty easy to find street parking. - Walking distance to the Waterfront. - The Achilles Project (I hesitated to put this in because I haven't actually been there yet but I've done a drive-by). And, it made the "new restaurants" Yelp newsletter today. Plus, I know at least one of the owners is a Fort point resident which I like. THE BAD: - The Gillette Factory. It so doesn't belong here. - Traffic on A St. - Congress St. Bridge has been closed for almost 2 years - will it even open again? - There are residential buildings everywhere but there's not a grocery store or coffee shop for miles. - The 7 am construction, even on weekends. - A 24 hour post-office nearby (the one that's always featured on the news where they interview people on the final day you can mail in your taxes) and those mail trucks have to park somewhere. How about a huge lot near my home? - More parking lots. There's a beautiful channel and views of the Boston skyline and it is all surrounded by parking lots. Mostly empty parking lots. - The nearest cup of coffee is a 10 minute walk away. I live here and I'm not leaving anytime soon. So, I'm choosing to believe the hype. This place has a lot of potential. There are a lot of projects in the works right now. This place is really going to be something some day. Yup, I keep telling myself this.

When Bae is having an argument with someone, I always Back Bae in the argument, after all, she's the one I'll be home with later on. And I mean look at her. There are many neighbourhoods of Boston that I love and many that I have spent a lot of time in. One of my favorites is Back Bay which I was surprised to learn didn't used to be an actual neighbourhood. It was just a bunch of water that was filled in and turned into a fake makeshift brand new neighbourhood back in the 1800s or so. Well they did a great job with it, because now it's fancy and fun and filled with college students and wonderful stuff to do. It seems very livable too, despite traffic and awful parking. So like I said, they did a really excellent job with it. I come back here whenever I get the chance and I'm sure I'll be back here in future as well. Now my cat is writhing all over the place and begging to be petted, and he's way more fun than even Back Bay, so for this reason I'm going to head out and pet him some more. Make sure you come to Back Bay for food and for nightlife and for Boba because it's all here, and the Kung Fu Tea right here is the best of the Boba, while Boston Shawarma is one of the food highlights.

I quite like Union Square which is a really adorable little part of Somerville in the suburbs of Boston. Lots of great ethnic food around here and a lovely place to hang out in the summer - but not so much in the winter and forget the traffic around here it's a nightmare.

I mean... it's a tunnel…read more It gets you from one side of Boston Harbor to the other, and most of the time it does exactly what it's supposed to do. When traffic is moving, it's a quick, direct route to Logan and probably the easiest way across. I'll give it that. The problem is that "when traffic is moving" does a lot of heavy lifting. One fender bender or one driver who suddenly realizes they're about to miss an exit, and everything seems to grind to a halt. Lane discipline also feels more like a suggestion than a rule. Watching people weave across the double solid lines or slam on the brakes at the last second is almost a daily occurrence. It makes an otherwise straightforward drive more stressful than it needs to be. The tunnel itself is fine, but it could definitely use a little more attention. The lighting and cleanliness aren't always what you'd expect for one of Boston's busiest roadways, and the walls can make the whole drive feel darker than it should. Would I use it again? Of course. It's a tunnel, not a vacation destination. It gets me where I'm going. I just don't look forward to the experience, especially during rush hour.

The Francis Parkman Memorial is hidden in plain sight, opposite the Brookline side of Jamaica Pond…read morenear the intersection of Francis Parkman Drive and Perkins street. Parkman was one of the first great historians of the United States, best known for The Oregon Trail and France and England in North America. He was born in Boston in 1823, and during the 1850s purchased land bordering Jamaica Pond for a summer home. The current memorial sits near the former site of his house. Parkman suffered from poor health, but was remarkably active. He rowed a boat on the pond regularly, and visited the general store on Centre st. to talk with the locals about the issues of the day. In his later years, he raised and hybridized flowers, becoming a professor of horticulture at Harvard's Bussey Institute at the Arnold Arboretum. When he died in 1893, Parkman was one of America's great men of letters. The Francis Parkman grammar school on Walk Hill street, near Forest Hills, was named in his honor. His house - Sunnyside - was removed when Jamaica Plain Park was created by Frederick Law Olmsted. Visiting the memorial requires a cautious crossing of Parkman Drive from the pond.
