Not to be confused with the Riddick Street Bridge which is where the chronicles were written…read more This is a gorgeous bridge between Allston and Cambridge that brings traffic directly from Allston into Cambridge and not the other way. It looks similar to the other one just down the river, but I use the other one much more often, which is the Western Avenue Bridge, because I'm usually traveling from my friends' houses in Cambridge into Allston to have some fun. This one was built a year later but it looks very similar. I'm pretty sure the same designers and what not are responsible for it. It looks a bit like the famous Pont-Neuf in Paris. It's gorgeous.

Love this historic neighborhood. I could have walked here way longer and I would return to explore…read moreit even more. It is majestic, one of the oldest in the city, dated around 1795. Great restored historic house, nice cobblestone streets, everything is well maintained and elegant. Isabella Stewart Gardner used to live here, you can see her older house, it has a plaque on it. It borders Boston Common and the beautiful Esplanade! If you have time while visiting Boston, definitely stroll on the streets of Beacon Hill. You'll get a better sense of the city. There are museums around, you can take a tour or created yours like I did!

This is another not so famous memorial that Boston has, but should be. It is right off the Freedom…read moreTrail and is a great piece of history. The statues are of three starving figures and three healthy walking figures. This represents the help that Boston sent to the Irish during the famine years and how they accepted them to come live here rather than starving. I really did not know anything at all about this and how much Boston helped during this time. I enjoyed seeing this statues and learning more about history with this surprising memorial right downtown.

I had this on my sightseeing list for my visit to Boston, it was nice getting to check off two spots at once since I was coming to Boston Commons to start my self guided tour of the freedom trail. Embrace is the first of many sculptures you'll ended up coming across while you're on the path of the freedom trail.

"Embrace me My sweet embraceable you…read moreEmbrace me You irreplaceable you" (Ella Fitzgerald) While walking around Boston Common, we saw a large and very odd-looking rounded structure so of course we had to check it out. That's how we discovered the statue known as "The Embrace" and learned that it was a monument reflecting Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King's love and time together in the city where they met. The statue is very creative, I mean how unusual is it to see a memorial dedicated to two very famous people that doesn't include their faces? Instead, the Embrace represents a hug and the greater meaning of love. The bronze monument is 20-feet tall and 25-feet wide. There are walls near the monument inscribed with quotes from the Kings, including this from Coretta Scott King: "Love is such a powerful force. It's there for everyone to embrace--that kind of unconditional love for all humankind. That is the kind of love that impels people to go into the community and try to change conditions for others, to take risks for what they believe in".

OK...since this was my first time going through the tunnel I had to do my homework since it was so…read morecool. Here's the summed up scoop... The Ted Williams Tunnel (TWT) was the first major tunnel connection constructed under Boston's Big Dig and was fabricated at the Baltimore Shipyard. It consists of 12 "binocular" shaped steel sections surrounded with concrete. When they were piecing the tunnel together the pieces were floated into place, lowered into the dredged area and joined. OK, that made it sound simple, but I'm sure the process was quite difficult, timely and pretty fascinating all at once. Cool huh? The tunnel opened in 1995 and was used for commercial traffic only at first and then eventually all public traffic could use it on holidays & weekends. Then in 2003 when a large portion of the Big Dig was completed on a portion of I-90 the TWT was opened to all traffic permanently. TWT is named after the former U.S. Marine Corps veteran and Boston Red Sox baseball player Ted Williams. The tunnel is 8,448 feet long and approximately 3,960 feet of this is under water. Just in case you're wondering...tolls are collected going both directions.

I mean... it's a tunnel…read more It gets you from one side of Boston Harbor to the other, and most of the time it does exactly what it's supposed to do. When traffic is moving, it's a quick, direct route to Logan and probably the easiest way across. I'll give it that. The problem is that "when traffic is moving" does a lot of heavy lifting. One fender bender or one driver who suddenly realizes they're about to miss an exit, and everything seems to grind to a halt. Lane discipline also feels more like a suggestion than a rule. Watching people weave across the double solid lines or slam on the brakes at the last second is almost a daily occurrence. It makes an otherwise straightforward drive more stressful than it needs to be. The tunnel itself is fine, but it could definitely use a little more attention. The lighting and cleanliness aren't always what you'd expect for one of Boston's busiest roadways, and the walls can make the whole drive feel darker than it should. Would I use it again? Of course. It's a tunnel, not a vacation destination. It gets me where I'm going. I just don't look forward to the experience, especially during rush hour.

There's also a Josiah Quincy statue, but I didn't see a yelp page for him so moving on, The 100 dollar bill man's statue is here because he attended the the Boston Latin School.

Benjamin Franklin's Statue is another important landmark on the Freedom Trail. It is very close to…read morethe King's Chapel and Burying Ground (also on the Freedom Trail, the previous historic spot). So, if you see crowds to the right, follow that and in a few seconds you will reach the statue. The founding father was born in Boston and attended the Boston Latin School, the oldest school in USA. The building is gone, but a plaque placed on the street, in front of the statue is a nice reminder of such a significant place at its original location. The artist Richard Greenough made each side of the Benjamin Franklin's face different on purpose, the left more reflective, the left funny and smiling, so check it out closely. Behind the statue there's the building of the Old City Hall (now a steakhouse). Lots of other interesting statues around. Great spot on the Freedom Trail!

Worth a see. The Citgo sign is a Boston landmark. Yep yep…read more I drive the area all the time, twice daily heading into Cambridge. Great area, the BU and Fenway Park, and certainly a lot to do. Been goin there since The Rat, Charlie's and the old record buy-sell-swap store were there. BU Bookstore is rock solid. Fun area for sure. Gimme back 1990.

The CITGO Sign sits above Kenmore Square in Boston and has been part of the city's skyline long…read moreenough that it has crossed from commercial signage into something closer to a civic landmark. We approached from the bridge and looked out toward the upper decks of Fenway Park, and the sign simply became part of the visual geography of that part of the city in a way that few pieces of advertising ever manage. The sign is a large triangular structure with an illuminated CITGO logo that cycles through colors at night. Seeing it after dark is considerably more impressive than during the day. The nighttime version, with the lights shifting against the surrounding urban skyline, is what earns the sign its reputation as a photograph worth taking rather than just a thing we pass on the way to the ballpark. The connection to Fenway Park and Red Sox baseball is part of what has embedded the sign in the local consciousness. It is visible from the outfield seats and certain sections of the park, and when the Red Sox hit a home run the sign has historically lit up in response. That gives it a participatory function within the game experience rather than just a passive presence on the skyline. For a piece of Boston iconography that costs nothing to see and requires no planning, the CITGO Sign is a quiet landmark that rewards a moment of attention, especially after dark when the city lights come alive. It is not a destination on its own, but it is a meaningful part of the Kenmore Square experience and worth a glance whenever you are in the area.

My friend Gus came here, but when I visited, I never Saw Gus. Get it…read more This is a suburb of Boston, the old school beachside part of Boston north of Revere and south of Salem. I've been here many times, and I can recommend 2 pizza places up here as well, and a roast beef spot, as this part of Boston is famous for its Roast Beef sandwiches, made in a style that only Boston makes them. The Duchovny movie (with Demi and Amber in it) was filmed in this town... The Joneses. They also have the Iron Works here, the first one in the US. And it's close to a lot of heavenly beaches, the likes of which you'd never know Boston had, unless you know, and visit for yourself.

Its also home to the Rumney Marsh, Prankers Pond, and Breakheart Reservation. There is a ton of cool wildlife thanks to that. I walked down to the pond and saw a beautiful heron and a few orioles.
