Walking into the Addiction Medicine department at Kaiser's Orchard building feels less like…read moreentering a healthcare facility and more like walking into a corner liquor store that has been robbed one too many times. From the second you step through the doors, you are greeted by an absurd wall of bulletproof glass separating the staff from the very people seeking support. You don't talk to a human being face-to-face; you shout through a tiny slot or intercom in the partition while standing on linoleum under harsh fluorescent lights, half expecting a cashier to slide a pack of cigarettes and scratchers back at you through a metal tray.  The aesthetic is aggressively bleak. It feels like security was the only design consideration, and everything else was an afterthought. The waiting area is sparse and clinical in the worst way, and the desperate attempts to soften the room with taped-up paper signs, streamers, and cheap seasonal party decorations somehow make it worse--like putting up a checkered banner in a bus depot to convince people they're having fun.  When people walk into an addiction medicine department, they are often in vulnerable, critical moments of their lives looking for compassion, dignity, and care. Instead, this facility immediately signals that you are considered a threat or a liability before you even check in. Between the fortressed reception counter, the sterile hostility of the setup, and the lingering sense of institutional paranoia, Kaiser couldn't make this place feel colder or more demoralizing if they tried. Do better. People seeking help deserve an environment built on healing and humanity, not a fortified checkout counter.

I'm only writing this review to be honest. I really love the doctors, they make me feel so…read morecomfortable and don't shame me at all. You could tell they really care for their patients. The nurse is also kind, supportive, and takes care of you. Although, the front desk is nice, but there have been times where I call and am on hold for over 20 mins and they never call back when I leave a voicemail. I always end up doing their work for them by faxing my results or calling the pharmacy regarding my prescriptions. Sometimes I have to be on top of them so they can work on my authorizations, referrals or even refills. If I don't, they'll never get done. It took them 3 months to place an auth and when I called to say I never got one, they placed an urgent one. I knew they had forgotten. I've also waited more than an hour to be seen even though I'm an established patient ; all because I noticed they added a last minute new patient. Completely fine, but I shouldn't have had to wait for so long when I was on time. I also did speak to a NP on a different occasion (I won't say her name because I don't want to shame her) and she was a bit rude. When she asked me health questions to review my family history I paused to think about it and when I tried to respond, she wouldn't let me explain and spoke to me like a 5 year old and said, "you're not understanding" when i clearly was, she just wasn't letting me speak. Overall there are some pros and cons but definitely be prepared for everything.

I am just so pleased with the front desk ladies and Doctor Woo. Maria and Angela are so kind and…read moreprofessional. I never have to wait for long, ever. This is by far the best Doctor, Dr Woo, that I have ever had. I really feel listened to and taken care of! Thank you ladies for your awesome customer service. I really appreciate how you have taken good care of me for the last 2 years. Thanks Again!
