These guys deserve the 5 star reviews! We came up to Seattle for NYE. There was 8 adults & 5 kids. We did 5 course menu and burgers and fries for the kids. Thomas and Bruno were our chefs and they crushed it! Not only we're they ahead of scheduled, but so nice and so professional. Honestly I was a little nervous because the kitchen equipment in our house was not great, but these guys are highly skilled and everything that came out was executed to perfection! They criminally underpays the chefs, who do most of the heavy lifting at $26/hr, and often do not get more than 6 hours a day of work. The company pays the chefs hourly, but the company (boss & operations) take a massive cut of somewhere between ~60-70% of the client fees. It simply doesn't make sense for any high-end chef to work for them when Dick's is paying $25/hr and can give them 40hours/week. For as good as the customer reviews are, there should be attention paid to their employee practices. It shows that the founder is looking to sit back and watch everyone else do the work once all the clients are found. Math: Client pays average of ~$400 per prep service (usually between 350-500) + groceries. Chef works 4-6 hours per job, earning $104-$156. The "company" i.e. David and a little bit of his team, keeps the remaining $246-$344. Michael and David seem nice, but the economic unfairness leaves a very sour and bitter taste on my palate with not sweetness on the back end. read more

I'm so glad we went with Chef David of Down to Earth Cuisine! Everything from the communications and planning to the menu, fresh ingredients, and watching him cook, made this one of the best dining experiences we've ever had. He totally honored all dietary restrictions and still managed to create a symphony of a meal that was not only beautiful, but perfectly flavorful and memorable! Our friends came into town to visit and surprised us with an amazing 7 course dinner from David! Not only did all the food look great, it tasted amazing! We loved being introduced to new foods/combinations. Presentation was beautiful. But beyond that, the experience as a whole was so positive! Chef David is a wizard in the kitchen! And if you are lucky enough to witness his magic, he'll enliven each chop, mix, and sauté with engaging conversation. He prepared three separate meals for me--all healthful, all delicious, all attractive, and all so varied that each dish felt like a new experience. Chef David has a particularly inventive palate and can transform recipes or invent new ones with whatever culinary tidbits on hand. He gave his chicken saltimbocca an extra punch by using salami in lieu of prosciutto, topped with a delicate madeira sauce and accompanied by savory fingerling potatoes. His grilled salmon on a bed of quinoa, mushrooms, squash, and broccoli glistened beneath a delectable pan sauce whipped up in minutes. Perhaps the most creative presentation in this trio was his Mediterranean Beef Korma nestled in a yoghurt sauce and encircled by a rice mélange dotted with pistachios, pecans, dried cranberries, and feta. When I later served this dish to guests, they extoled its beauty before they began raving about each taste. Chef David is also an expert multi-tasker who tidies up as he prepares the next step. Chef Marissa has been fabulous. She makes everything from scratch including her own sauces, dressings, and even croutons! She is personable and always leaves the kitchen immaculate. My wife and me began a specific program, for me to drop weight and for her, to support some well-being issues. To say the least, there are many details to track and many ingredients David and his staff had to substitute for. The food is delicious and despite two distinctly differing pallets, David was able to make great suggestions and balance our dietary needs. I lost 25 pounds throughout the 3 months and my wife has accomplished her goals too. I can't say enough about how responsive David is to queries, suggestions and feedback on the meals which he actively solicits. In effect, he's turned us both in to partners and stoked an interest in cooking neither of us had previously had. There were some pros and some cons. pros: --Some of the foods were amazing, for instance the lemon vinaigrette with mango salsa salad was the best I'd ever had and the chimichurri sauce was quite tasty as well. --They have a lengthy intake where they ask very specific questions about what you like or don't like. There's space to list your health concerns, allergies, medical issues as well. --They are creative in the kitchen --Incredibly quick to respond to phone and emails. cons: --They billed us for organic food from PCC and sent us a photocopy of a receipt from them, but we received food with labels that were not from PCC. This worries us because we are left not knowing where our food actually came from. For example, we were charged for an organic avocado, but received a non-organic one. --There was a lack of understanding about raw probiotic foods. We mentioned we were interested in this, but it arrived mixed into a hot meal curry with instructions to heat it at 350 before eating, even though heat kills probiotics. This was frustrating since we had paid extra specifically to include some raw probiotic food. --The website lists each meal as $15-50. After all the ingredients plus taxes, ours came out to over $70 for each meal. If you include the delivery fee, it was $79 per person per meal. The total bill arrived 3 days after we received the food. --1 of the 3 of the meals we did not like. read more

I can't even begin to tell you how impressed I was with Chef David! From the first time that I spoke with him to the day of our wedding, he made things easy and simple for us. We were having a destination wedding in Washington and coming from Chicago so I really appreciated how responsive he was and how easy the whole process was. My biggest concern was dealing with my own dietary restrictions, but David was so amazingly accommodating. I have many allergies and often get sick when eating out and I REALLY did not want that to happen on my wedding day, but I was so pleased to have been able to eat everything he made with absolutely no symptoms.
