I stocked up on organic meats (fresh and frozen) from Eva's Farm. The steaktips that I ate last night were awesome! Tender and flavorful. This time I bought lemon/pepper chicken, bacon/cheddar burgers, rib eye, and strip steak. Buy one, get one FREE on frozen meat! The boneless rib eye was $19.54, and the T-bone steak was $19.45. So, I spent $19.54 for the two. We tried their frozen strip steak and it was tender and delicious. Julie's Happy Hens sells a variety of organic eggs from chickens, ducks, and turkeys. A sweet little old lady from Hickory Nut Farm sells all things made out of goat's milk. I didn't buy her cheese or yogurt today, but I bought her goat's milk soap, and goat's milk brownie (as gifts). I also bought delicious corn, tomatoes, cuke, arugula, blueberries, and donut peaches--including organic produce from Gaouette Farm. (Lots of other produce--ranging from kale to beets to watermelon to apples--are available.) One of my favorite vendors is a mushroom purveyor: Mycoterra Farm. The beautiful oyster and shitake mushrooms (coupled with farmer's cheese and organic tomatoes) made for a very tasty lunchtime sandwich. I will be back next Sunday (hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.), maybe to purchase some seafood or handmade scrubs and candles. Bakery items, jams, cheese, cereal, and other goodies are there, too.

If you have never had a farm fresh chicken, it really is something to try. It is hard for many people to understand why there is such a difference in grocery store prices vs farm prices (and then, organic farm prices). It's worth it to me because the flavor is so insanely better than anything I have bought at a store. This meat is even better than the chicken we get from a local non-organic farm. The other differences I noticed is that the skin is much heartier. It does not split easily. It's a healthier chicken, so the collagen is not compromised. My proof is also in the bottom of the pan. There was not much fat once the juices cooled. They solidified into gelatin, which tells me the collagen is healthier. We both noticed when eating the meat from bones, the bones actually had flavor! So, I cannot wait to get another one and make chicken stock from the bones. Also, the chicken was very big. I was under the misconception that only GMO feed and steroid injected chickens get that big at that young age. Not true. What is true is that all parts are proportionately large. As opposed to grocery store chickens that have huge breast meat areas, and the other parts are small. This chicken clearly got great exercise. We also got a sugar pumpkin. It was wonderful too. Some pie pumpkins are very hard to cut into, the skin is like bark. These pumpkins cut well, roasted well and had a nice autumn flavor. I will be making my pie soon. We ordered a turkey for Thanksgiving. I am very much looking forward to it. The turkeys are raised the same way the chickens are, and I am quite certain the flavor and quality will be unbelievable.

Visited Colby farms on the last day of their sunflower filed season. It's $10 cash to park, then…read morewalking to the actual field is free after that. Considering that it was towards the end of the season, you could tell the flowers were on their way out. Some wilting and some had been cut down. It was still beautiful and once in a lifetime experience. The field is pretty much jam packed and there are a view paths you can walk down. I saw people walking under the flowers to go inside, however this looked a little too much for me, so we stuck to the pre-made paths and the perimeter. There were also numerous bees on and around the flowers but luckily we didn't get stung. We also visited the farm stand that had some nice baked goods and fresh produce. There were also two goats outside of this area that were so cute. Overall a fun experience but definitely go late august for the best experience. Beware too, not very accessible and lots of walking on grass.
