The only things missing were the tall slide, merry-go-rounds, and a jungle gym. However, the old (and now, kitschy), well made and maintained pieces make this one of my favorite parks in Houston. Also, its a piece of old Houston; it was established in 1926. This Rice University area park has a neighborhood organization that takes excellent care of the area. To the tune of $10,000 per year. As well they should, it's one of the last bastions of built-to-last playgrounds. Steel and wood and charm, no plastic. Who doesn't remember climbing on the pumpkin stagecoach at Pumpkin Park? Fleming Park is meant to be charming and unforgettable. If playground equipment isn't your thing, there are plenty of picnic tables, oak trees, and general relaxation areas. A perfect pocket picnic park. There's also a couple of tennis courts, two B-ball hoops, and a baseball diamond. There is no sign for the park, only a list of park rules and a community board. If you're uncertain that you are at the correct park, look for a 15' Totem Pole Bird House that was erected in 1991 by Fletcher Mackey. It is constructed of Cypress and Cedar Wood, ceramic, copper, and painted steel. One item of sadness, some idiot(s) stole the lamb spring ride back in January. There are signs on the community board with a photo and plea for its return. Rather, I should say "her." She was named "Mary the Lamb." Again, she's very, very cute, has a snow white fleece, and a giant metal spring attached to her underside.

If you're looking to get some cardio in, the track is great--it's about 0.8 miles (or just a bit over), and I've walked it plenty of times to shed some calories. Another huge bonus is the free weight room. You're not going to find 600 lbs of plates in there, but there's more than enough to get a solid pump going. The indoor basketball court has a couple of loose boards, but considering it's been there for 40+ years, it's still a classic spot to play. The outdoor courts also hold so many memories. I really wish they'd open the pool back up, but even without it, the park is a gem. Plus, there are so many great lunch spots nearby to hit up after a workout. Little community park, not really bigger than a city block. Situated in the corner between 288 and…read more59. This park houses a covered full size basketball court and a uncovered small court. They have a covered pavilion for parties or picnics and a playground. There's nothing particular fancy about the park as compared to the other park in the neighborhood, Hermann, but it's still a cute location. I haven't really seen many tiny children playing here, so its a great location to come and hit up the swings without feeling guilty about taking a child's toy.

Sesquicentennial Park connects to a couple of bayou trails. Along the east, the bayou trail which will eventually lead you to Buffalo Bayou Park. On the western end, you'll hit the Buffalo Bayou Greenway and UHD, and can eventually head north to the White Oak Greenway. Amongst the features of the park is the "Big Bubble," a hidden red button which creates bubbles in the Buffalo Bayou. Unfortunately, it has been out of service since 2019. Parking is best found in the parking garages nearby, but will come at a cost.

Memorial Park has just about everything you need for a family with various interests. You can't go wrong here, located right by Pasadena High School off 225, home of the Eagles, where the grass is greener and the girls are prettier. Basketball area is large, at least six goals, covered, and always full of basketball players of all ages. There is a skate park next to it with ramps of all sizes. My daughter's favorite section of the park, she uses it with her skates or bicycle, she is now asking for a skateboard this Christmas. I would, take caution with little ones; it's full of teenagers who do try to look out for smaller kids, except they can't avoid little ones when they are going full speed. I've seen some really bad accidents. Soccer fields always have players on them whether it is practice or games. Everyone seems to play nice even when the fields are being occupied by several groups. One of the soccer fields has a ¼ mile walking, running, jogging, trotting, biking, or skating track. Nobody is there to enforce the tracks rules, perfect for a mother of three who needs to get her cardio in with kids who rather bike ride, skate, or kick balls on the track. This may not be the track for you, if that sort of thing bothers you. You should still come for everything else Memorial Park offers. This mamita's favorite part: Unlike the skate park I don't have to chase my daughter to ensure her safety. I bring a blanket, lay down on top of the hill and let the kids work out their problems on the playground. I always yell to my kids as we are rushing out the door to grab water, but like most other times they don't listen. There are water fountains, and to my surprise actually have a good water pressure that their mouths are nowhere near the spout. The bad, is very bad. Restrooms, let's just not go there. Gazebo, bridge, leisurely strolls, picnic tables, pits, and benches are all part of a day at the park. There is always someone selling raspas, corn in a cup, chicarrones, and other gusguerias (junk food). Just for Pete's sake pick up after yourself. My kids don't take many orders from me, but our one family rule is, "we don't litter", if they see you do it, well you asked for it.

I visited this park in order to volunteer at the annual Easter Egg Hunt Festival.I The festival was…read moregoing to start at 10;30am.I arrived around 8;30am. I saw a lot of people playing tennis. I arrived the festival venue.I started preparing for the festival. I put candy in eggs. Some people said that this is the largest Easter Egg Hunt festival in Texas. At least, I saw countless eggs. It seemed to me that the most volunteers were from churches. They were nice. They didn't say anything to me when I ate candy.LOL.I ate only 2 or 3 candy. At 10;30am, kids started running for hunting eggs. We needed more eggs. Again, I started putting candy in eggs. Around 11 am, a volunteer manager asked me to wear a Easter Bunny costume and play with kids. I put costume. I was excited.But It was heavy and hot! Some kid came to me." Bunny. I can get candy for you'. How nice he was! But it was too hot and heavy. I was almost down.I saw some word" He( Jesus Christ) is risen". The word encouraged me.I started working again. Another volunteer manager came to me.Mark, " Please pick up trash".I walked around the park.I saw a lot of people enjoying carnival, music and egg hunts. It was a great park and festival. A man at McDonald booth asked me to clean the booth. he told me "I will give you some free food". I cleaned Mac's tent.It was true I got something, but it says' Buy Egg muffin, get one free". This was my real Easter Egg Hunt!. Around 2pm, I left the festival.People praised my hardwork.I saw people who were cooking BBQ. I asked them " Are you selling BBQ?" They said yes.I bought BBQ for $7. That was the best Texas BBQ! I love BBQ! I will definitely return the festival in 2015!

They have swings for the younger kids as well as older ones/adults, play equipment for younger and older children (they're separate), a cute little gazebo to sit under as you watch the children play, a tennis court, a sand volleyball court, picnic tables, and even a little grill for lazy spring and summer bbq afternoons. There's a part of the field that can be used for sports games (baseball or even soccer), and there are even bleachers for spectators to watch. There's a nice trail around the park for anyone looking to get some exercise in. The only downside: there's a school next door, so it can get REALLY noisy in the afternoons when the kids come outside.
