As a doula, she is extremely capable, professional, and supportive. When I first connected with Shalin via videochat for a consultation, she instantly made me feel comfortable. I decided to go with Shalin based on how experienced and knowledgeable she seemed, as well as how comprehensive her doula services package was. Over the course of my pregnancy, Shalin visited my house several times to educate my husband and me about the birthing process, evidence-based approaches to birth, and different ways to prepare my body for birth, and to go over my birth plan. The whole process made me feel really prepared for the birth and gave me a greater understanding of what I wanted for the birth. I also appreciated that I got to know Shalin more during the pregnancy so that she didn't feel like a stranger at all. In fact, she is so warm and friendly that she felt more like a friend! She didn't push any particular views on me but wanted me to feel supported in my birth preferences.  When I went into early labor, Shalin was very responsive and kept checking in on me to see how labor was progressing, and when we decided to go to the hospital, she was super quick to meet us there. She was prepared in every way and set up lights and candles for the room. The hospital room was a vibe and very peaceful! Since I gave birth in a hospital setting, it was also important to me to have someone who could help advocate for me. When my hospital care team asked me to do certain things, Shalin checked in with me to see if I wanted to proceed with what they were asking. During the labor, she suggested different laboring positions and did counterpressure and other comfort measures, which helped me tremendously in coping with the pain. With Shalin's help and support, all my birth preferences were met! I had such a positive, empowering labor - something I never would have thought possible after my first delivery experience (without a doula).  I loved having Shalin as my doula and I highly recommend her! I can't stress enough how having her as my doula made such a difference to my second delivery experience. I am so happy with how everything went and really couldn't have done it without Shalin!

There were multiple unforeseen circumstances that came up after our child was born, such as illness of our oldest child, Medical emergencies of myself or my wife. They have come through whenever we needed help. They moved things around on their schedule to help when needed the most. The feedback they gave every night was helpful as well. They are truly Masters of their craft. Theyre very good with communication, taking care of the newborn and just overall good people. I don't think I've met a kinder group of people. You could really tell that they put their hearts into what they do. It's not just a job to them. They are here to help mothers get through the most difficult time after childbirth. I could see the struggles my wife was going through, and I did my best to help, but I knew that it wasn't enough. Rebecca and her staff provided that extra edge we needed to help out my wife. Becca took the time to understand my previous traumatic birth and matched me with Stephenie and Tracey R. as my doulas for my second birth. Together they answered all of my questions and provided LOTS of reassurance during what can be a very emotional and uncertain time. They both helped me work through the trauma of my previous birth and had confidence in me when I didn't have the confidence in my body. During labor, Tracey's presence made a world of difference. She was calm, attentive, and deeply knowledgeable, offering both guidance and emotional support exactly when I needed it. Whether it was helping me stay grounded through transition or advocating for my birth plan, she helped me feel empowered and confident throughout the entire process. It literally brings tears to my eyes thinking about my redemptive hospital birth - unmedicated, 10lbs baby boy. I know Tracey had a lot to do with that because she supported me both physically and emotionally. My baby is almost one, so this review is long overdue but I feel the gratitude for them even more now that I'm coming out of the postpartum fog. What stood out most was their compassion and dedication--not just to me, but to my husband as well. They made sure we both felt included, informed, and supported every step of the way. If you're looking for doulas who are professional yet warm and truly invested in your experience, they are an excellent choice. I'm so grateful for all of them (including Arielle for the in home lactation consultation!) - Allie & Stephen

I unexpectedly went into labor at only 35 weeks, well before she was supposed to even be on call for me. Despite that she answered every single call and supported me from the very beginning. Unfortunately Mkenna was under the weather when I went into labor and per my decision I decided to not have her physically present. Even though I made that choice, Mkenna never once left my side emotionally or mentally via video chat through my 60-hour labor and through the birth of my son. During my labor I was diagnosed with preeclampsia, had a failed epidural, and faced multiple difficult and unexpected decisions. Through every curveball thrown, Mkenna helped me understand each of the options presented by the doctors and what each possible outcome could look like, allowing me to make informed decisions while still honoring the birth experience I wanted for myself and my baby. During labor there was a point that with my epidural failing I truly believe panic could have set in from the pain. Mkenna helped ground me in that moment. She reminded me to breathe, to use low tones, and to continue to stay focused so my body could continue to do the work. She was also the one who helped me advocate that the epidural was failing, eventually I needed both a spinal and second epidural and Mkenna continued to support me through it all. When I could feel my baby getting close, Mkenna again helped me make an informed decision where I chose to labor down. About 45 minutes later, the doctors did a cervical check and my sons head was right there - it was time to push! Just 22 minutes later my son was born. Even following the birth of my son Mkenna stayed on video to help make sure my birth plan and wishes were still being respected. No matter how many left turns my labor took, I truly believe I got through all of them with the best possible outcome because I had her support. She made me feel informed, empowered, calm, and cared for every step of the way. If you are considering hiring a doula, I can honestly say Mkenna is worth everything and more!

She reminded me to relax my face during contractions, helped me move into different positions to feel more comfortable, chatted with me to keep my mind off labor pains and explained things more when the doctor was suggesting things. She was there to ensure what I wanted for my birth actually happened and if I needed to pivot from my original birth plan (which I ended up doing), she was there every step of the way supporting me and my husband. Mkenna is so phenomenal to work with. She really made a huge difference to me and my husband during the birth of our first child and would recommend her to anyone!

They are insanely knowledgeable, calm, reassuring, experienced, loving....I could go on and on! I had an amazing and uncomplicated pregnancy, a powerful birth experience and a happy healthy baby girl and I know I have them to thank for that! Even my husband was thoroughly impressed with their care and he is very hard to impress!! These two wonderful midwives truly offer the best care a woman (and the whole family) could receive and they are worth so much more than what they charge. I could have had my entire birth paid for if I had seen a Dr and delivered at the hospital, but these two are worth every penny. We always felt special and never rushed at our appointments. They always made sure to tell us about all the options and helped us weigh the pros and cons of all the testing and procedures that come along with pregnancy. They always had perfect answers to my questions and their suggestions were always spot on. Everything they ever suggested that I do worked like a charm and you can really see how much they love what they do and how much they love each and every new baby! The day my daughter was born I don't know how I would have made it without my husband and the midwives help. The after care they provided was exceptional and I couldn't have imagined anything better!! I had some troubles with nursing right after my baby was born and it didn't matter what time of day it was; they were ready to come to me or would make time for me to see them no matter what. I would highly recommend One Heart for any woman who is even considering a home birth. To those of you who think we are all granolas and this would never be something for you, think again. It's one of the most amazing experiences you will ever have. Yes, of course there may be pain, but it's a pain that will end and you will never feel the high of seeing your baby born and knowing that YOU were the one who delivered him/her at any other point in your life. I once thought people like who I have become were crazy nuts, but actually being informed and choosing a safe drug free birth shows strength and courage to make that decision.

For my first birth in another state five years prior, I was under the care of midwives at a birthing center but was transferred last minute to hospital for an induction at 42 weeks. This birth at ~40 weeks with Ariana was at home, and without a doubt, this is what I would choose again in a heartbeat for any future pregnancies. From the very start, Ariana presented herself with exquisite professionalism and a real tangible warmth and compassion and that impression only grew stronger during my care. During all of my prenatal appointments, Ariana listened closely to my concerns and was able to readily recommend real solutions for the various symptoms I was feeling; her vast knowledge base and network of contacts in the birthing sphere and her steadiness and compassion always left me feeling encouraged and lighter after our checkups. She is ready with tried and true holistic and medical protocols for seemingly every scenario, checklists and resources to guide you through preparing for a home birth, and has contacts to refer you to for chiropractic care, bodywork, pelvic floor therapy, counseling, and more etc should you desire it (without ever pushing anything). On baby's birthday, I was feeling discouraged in my labor as my anatomy seems to predispose my babies to be positioned posterior, despite best preventative efforts. When Ariana arrived, the tone in the room immediately became lighter; she saw me through a particularly challenging contraction, and then with an encouraging smile and a "mama we got this" attitude presented some solid options to help me progress. Throughout the labor, Ariana's presence always made us feel secure and safe. Baby was stubbornly born sunny side up, but healthy and well, and I had no tearing, thanks to Ariana's incredible guidance and coaching. Afterwards, I was able to relish skin to skin time with my baby, while Ariana cared for us, cleaned everything, started wash, made me a snack, helped me shower and tucked us back into bed after a long night. My postpartum recovery experience this time was a night and day difference - emotionally, mentally and physically - it was all so much easier thanks to Ariana's care and her postpartum visits. Her steady spirit, her dedication to her patients, and her excellence in her craft is unmatched - she is born to do this.

My husband and I are new residents to California and I am currently pregnant with our first child. We have no family in the area. I had a phone consult scheduled with the owner, Ms. Michele, on January 5th, 2026. She called me on time and we both mutually agreed to move forward with the on-boarding process for doula services for my pregnancy. She requested that I call my insurance company and gather the information for her in an email. I did this, and sent her an email the following night, on January 6th. I didn't hear anything from her, so I sent a text message to both her work and personal cell phone number on January 9th. No response. At this point, I am 37 weeks, and anxious to move things along for doula services. The weekend and Monday goes by, and I still have not received a reply. I decide, as a last attempt, to call her. I called both her work and personal cell phone and left a voicemail on each line on Tuesday, January 13th. Nothing. Shame on the owner, Ms. Michele, for stating that she will move the process forward and said she will have a doula for me for my birth. She lied. She disclosed to me during our consult that she is a mother herself and had over twenty years of experience working as a L&D nurse. This provided me great relief and happiness, only for it to be crushed when she never replied to my messages. How can someone with this sort of background make a promise and then not follow through? Ms. Michele should be ashamed of herself not only on a professional level, but also on a personal level. This seems to be a wider issue with the Doula profession as I was ghosted by another local Sacramento doula company as well as the Volunteer Doula Coordinator at Mercy Hospital of Folsom. I believe doulas are a valuable asset to a woman's birth experience, however, I will not be wasting my time anymore trying to arrange one for my pregnancy.

The office also doesn't care about the staff out in the field. We're the ones working with the kiddos but are treated the worst. I saw on their Facebook page they had an appreciation party to consultants but I NEVER got so much as a thank you. The only nice person in the office is the scheduler Lisa. We are only to assist with behaviors and/ or other daily activities (depending if you work at a school or home setting). Anyways, when I first applied I was under the impression of working with children whom have autism. That is NOT the case, some may have autism, but most likely have other concerns. It can sometimes be very stressful, but my consultant was always available via phone or text .. Anyways, the flexibility is great for a college student .. but the pay is bad. I met a girl whom worked for this company (she had her Bachelors degree in Social Work) and they were paying her $13 an hour. A lot of the employees here don't have a sincere interest in children , it's just a flexible job while in school which isn't fair to the kiddos. In addition, the staff at the office aren't very nice .. when I had my interview I asked for $13/ hour (I have two AA degrees), and the lady flat out told me "no, we pay 11- 12 which is already above minimum wage" .. also, whenever your kiddo cancels they have you drive to another kiddo .. which isn't always convenient. When I gave my two weeks notice she snatched the paper from my hand & took me into a private room to question why I was quitting .. once I told her I was moving she continued to ask where ? I moved from Sacramento to Huntington Beach. She then asked me why I was moving ? And if I already had a job lined up? And what it was? Giving your notice is already awkward , and this made it annoying too .. In addition, every person I've trained with would use there phone during intervals .. even my consultant , so one day I was out on the playground with my kiddo whom was playing hoola hoop w/ a friend about 5 ft from me .. I was checking my schedule to see when the after school aide would be there (she was always late) and you must stay 15 minutes OVER your shift before calling the office ! Also inconvenient .. anyways , somehow the owner of the company Erin Chargin stopped by .. she said are you a learning solutions employee? I said yes .. she then responded "oh! So you work for me, and you need to be off your phone" I was taken by surprise & responded "okay" she then walked off .. but I had no idea who she was ! I had never met her, once I got home I researched her , & it was her .. she was very unprofessional & rude .. she should've introduced her self , then ask me to put away my phone .. I was not happy with this company , but it was okay for short term .. feel free to message me with any additional questions about this company .
