I unequivocally recommend Renee Hanevold for prenatal care and home birth. As a CNM with former L&D…read moreexperience in several hospitals, she has delivered thousands of babies, and has seen many, many different kinds of births. She is committed to home birth as a better birth process, and because of her background she really knows what she is talking about, both about the problems that can come from hospital care and how to watch for serious medical issues that require that hospital care. Renee attended the water birth of my son (she supplied the tub). She helped me through the complication of early water breaking (four days before deliver). We had a successful home birth without pitocin, but I was confident that if we had needed to, Renee would have made the call to transfer to the hospital in a timely, non-emergency manner. Her calm, confident presence at the birth made all the difference for me. Though it is unusual, I had a tear from my birth that required stitches (normally tears can be left to heal better than sewing, but mine was a different kind) and Renee sewed me so well that several doctors who examined me since commented on what an amazing job the person had done on my stitches. For prenatal care, Renee isn't in a hurry, she gives as long as it takes to get your questions answered. She orders routine prenatal labs and ultrasounds when you need / want them, but doesn't force you to get tests you don't want. She also takes care to help mothers prepare emotionally for birth and parenthood, and she welcomes dads at prenatal visits as well. Also, she can really feel what that baby is doing inside you. Even when I couldn't tell, she knew exactly where he was and what he was doing in there. I have no regrets whatsoever about choosing Renee for my home birth, and I only hope that if I have another child I will be able to have her again, or find another midwife at least half as good.

They are insanely knowledgeable, calm, reassuring, experienced, loving....I could go on and on! I had an amazing and uncomplicated pregnancy, a powerful birth experience and a happy healthy baby girl and I know I have them to thank for that! Even my husband was thoroughly impressed with their care and he is very hard to impress!! These two wonderful midwives truly offer the best care a woman (and the whole family) could receive and they are worth so much more than what they charge. I could have had my entire birth paid for if I had seen a Dr and delivered at the hospital, but these two are worth every penny. We always felt special and never rushed at our appointments. They always made sure to tell us about all the options and helped us weigh the pros and cons of all the testing and procedures that come along with pregnancy. They always had perfect answers to my questions and their suggestions were always spot on. Everything they ever suggested that I do worked like a charm and you can really see how much they love what they do and how much they love each and every new baby! I was a little nervous at first but they were very reassuring that my body was meant to do this and as long as I had a normal pregnancy there should be no reason I could not delivery my child at home safely. Every visit with them was great and they always made us feel like we were one of their own children. They were always both very positive and uplifting. The day my daughter was born I don't know how I would have made it without my husband and the midwives help. The after care they provided was exceptional and I couldn't have imagined anything better!! I had some troubles with nursing right after my baby was born and it didn't matter what time of day it was; they were ready to come to me or would make time for me to see them no matter what. I would highly recommend One Heart for any woman who is even considering a home birth. To those of you who think we are all granolas and this would never be something for you, think again. It's one of the most amazing experiences you will ever have. Yes, of course there may be pain, but it's a pain that will end and you will never feel the high of seeing your baby born and knowing that YOU were the one who delivered him/her at any other point in your life. I once thought people like who I have become were crazy nuts, but actually being informed and choosing a safe drug free birth shows strength and courage to make that decision.

Our friends recommended RRDS after having used them for their two kids two separate times. Our experience was fantastic. Originally, we had only planned to use them for 6-8 weeks postpartum, but we ended up using them for about 4 months. Our initial doulas were Tracy and Stephenie, and we absolutely loved their help, expertise, and kindness. They helped me immensely during my c-section recovery, taught us so much about newborns, and ended up being such a great resource throughout our entire time with them. As time went on, Tracy and Stephenie stepped back a bit due to other commitments to new families, and we were introduced to several other doulas for the remainder of our relationship with RRDS. Everyone was great and communicative, and we really felt like we were in good hands with each of them. There were a few hiccups along the way, but Rebecca and the doulas handled it all with grace and understanding. We have already talked about using RRDS again with our next baby.

Knowing my situation, she responded to my email right away and managed to squeeze me into her schedule. She did a very thorough interview with me and my husband, fully understood what experience we are looking for and made amazing recommendations. She recommended me with a hospital I wasn't aware of that has great staff and with midwifery care. Since I was late stage pregnant (32+weeks), she pulled all her strings to help the new hospital accept me as a patient. And all the way up until the delivery date, she was only one text/call away for any questions I had. The birth was still painful, but with the midwifery care, Tashina's preparation with me and my husband, the hot tub setup, and her being there as my advocate, the birth was quick, smooth, and no manual extraction of placenta! Here is our Birth Story and experience with Cambridge Midwifery My husband and I found out we were pregnant with our 3rd child while living out of state. We knew already we would be moving at some point during my pregnancy back to Sacramento CA because of work, but didn't know if I would only be a few months or closer to 8 months pregnant. When I called and talked to Christie for the first time it was like I was talking to my sister or like a very close friend. She was so friendly, warm, and understanding of our situation. Right away she wanted to help us and support us in our pregnancy and the moving process. I knew before hanging up the phone that I had found the perfect midwife to go with us on this journey. Christie really takes the time to get to know all her mamas on a personal level. Before meeting in person she was already 100% devoted to providing the best care for me during this pregnancy. We called and texted back and forth for over a month while we were still living out of state and in the moving process. Finally we were back in CA and I started my prenatal appointments with Christie. Every appointment she showed how much she cared about taking care of you and your baby. She would answer any questions my husband and I had and she is extremely knowledgeable about over all health and pregnancy and taking a very natural approach, and never rushing through appointments. She wants you and your baby to be happy and healthy throughout pregnancy and birth. Each home visit was so much fun. My two other daughters ages 1 and 3 loved helping her and asking questions. My 3 year old has a special draw towards midwifery care and Christie noticed that and went out of her way to talk to her and explain what she was doing during my appointments and would let my daughter help with it all. My husband and I loved this because it brought the family together to love and support my growing belly and our 3 year old learned so much and continues to talk about becoming a midwife when she is big. Now onto labor, it slowly built up the few weeks leading up to delivery and no matter what time it was Christie was there answering my calls and text when I was unsure about something going on. June 31st when my labor started Christie came over and checked on me and the baby and everything was well, she then came back that night and did a second check and then left to let us sleep and get ready for delivery soon. That night/morning at 12am I woke up and things where getting real. We called Christie and she was quick to answer and on her way to us. When she arrived her and my husband got the birth tub set up and all the supplies ready. When she was setting up she was so quiet and comforting allowing me to continue laboring with out interruption, but giving me the peace of mind knowing she was there to help if needed. When she came over to me to get me into the tub and she placed her hand on my back it was a feeling of warmth, comfort, and so supportive. It gave me reassurance that my body and baby know what to do and to let it natural bring him into the world. During contractions Christie and my husband stayed right there next to the tub the whole time rubbing my back and hips helping and supporting me with their words of encouragement and reminding me to breathe low and deep and to go with the contractions to bring him down low to come out. This made my birth very empowering, more relaxing, and had such a trusting, caring, and loving feel from everyone. We were so happy and pleased with Cambridge Midwifery. When we are expecting again we will not hesitate to call her again to have her walk through the next journey of life with us. She is truly amazing at what she does! Thank you so much, The Lanthier Family

Christie did such an excellent job caring for me and my family from the first time we came to her clinic through pregnancy and birth and well beyond the postpartum period. Not only did Christie bring a deep knowledge of traditional midwifery care, but also her expertise around nutrition and the natural holistic approach of her practice were what made such a big difference for me in this pregnancy. The prenatal visits were detailed, personal and every discomfort I experienced was met with a suggestion on how to provide relief rather than it being dismissed as another pregnancy symptom. Along the way, Christie made sure to provide options and education for her treatment so I could make the best decision for me and my family. I couldn't have asked for a more positive and empowering home birth experience. Whether it's your first or fourth pregnancy, every woman should have the blessing to experience a natural childbirth and with the support of Christie I was able to do that in the most beautiful way, from the comfort of our home.
