There's a bed, bathroom, shower and a very large tub, which my wife loved. The midwives are very responsive. My wife had a 37 hour labor. Once active labor began we were at the birth center from 10pm to 9am and they were of course with us the entire time giving incredible support. My wife had to be transferred to a hospital because of a host of complications that were out of our control. The midwives arranged everything with the hospital and drove with us to the hospital and stayed with my wife until she was in her hospital room. Post-natal care has been phenomenal as well. We have been comfortably and confidently nursing after just a few visits, and I will likely continue to check in as long as I am lactating. I love that they take many different insurances and have a functional home-like space. They also provide hot teas and adorable teacups. Don't hesitate to talk about postpartum mental health, birth control, return to work, bottles/pumping, or other related topics. They will help where they can and often know where to refer for various things. Bethany is very knowledgeable, direct, and supportive. I love her sense of humor. Every visit with them was great and they always made us feel like we were one of their own children. They were always both very positive and uplifting. The day my daughter was born I don't know how I would have made it without my husband and the midwives help. The after care they provided was exceptional and I couldn't have imagined anything better!! I had some troubles with nursing right after my baby was born and it didn't matter what time of day it was; they were ready to come to me or would make time for me to see them no matter what. I would highly recommend One Heart for any woman who is even considering a home birth. To those of you who think we are all granolas and this would never be something for you, think again. It's one of the most amazing experiences you will ever have. Very low key, there when we needed, super helpful, answered all our questions, reasonable pricing, reliable and most importantly made my husband and me feel sane/like we would totally be able to handle both birth and having a kid. And trust me when I say I am the last person who would feel confident about being able to do that. She actually (at our request) gave us a baby care boot camp - way better getting childcare info from her than from the classes at the hosp. And then she was with us for the whole birth - which we did at the hospital, might I add. She certainly does midwifery and home birthing, but I wanted a hospital birth and just the emotional support. She was terrific. When the doctors/nurses changed shifts, we still had her. When they made suggestions, we had her to ask what they meant/what she thought/advocate for us. When my epidural wasn't working, she pressed on my back and made it a thousand times better. After baby, she came and checked in on us and has been a resource for questions and information. My first labor was pitocin induced and I knew that for my second, I wanted to try to go into labor naturally. So I when I started to feel anxious at the end of pregnancy, I received prenatal massages & care from Angela. She is incredibly knowledgeable, competent and generous with her care- I left my appointments with questions answered that I didn't even know I had. Her advice and support was exactly what I needed to trust the process and have an intervention free birth. She came to the hospital the day of birth to take my placenta for encapsulation. And she is making home visits for the first baby check up- rather than taking a 3 day old baby & post-partum mama back to the hospital. My only regret is that I didn't hire Angela sooner. I thought that I would only ever give birth in a medical facility, but if I have another baby, I would want to home birth with Angela because of the superior level of care and the heart that she puts into her work. Here is our Birth Story and experience with Cambridge Midwifery My husband and I found out we were pregnant with our 3rd child while living out of state. We knew already we would be moving at some point during my pregnancy back to Sacramento CA because of work, but didn't know if I would only be a few months or closer to 8 months pregnant. When I called and talked to Christie for the first time it was like I was talking to my sister or like a very close friend. She was so friendly, warm, and understanding of our situation. Right away she wanted to help us and support us in our pregnancy and the moving process. I knew before hanging up the phone that I had found the perfect midwife to go with us on this journey. Christie really takes the time to get to know all her mamas on a personal level. Before meeting in person she was already 100% devoted to providing the best care for me during this pregnancy. We called and texted back and forth for over a month while we were still living out of state and in the moving process. Finally we were back in CA and I started my prenatal appointments with Christie. Every appointment she showed how much she cared about taking care of you and your baby. She would answer any questions my husband and I had and she is extremely knowledgeable about over all health and pregnancy and taking a very natural approach, and never rushing through appointments. She wants you and your baby to be happy and healthy throughout pregnancy and birth. Each home visit was so much fun. My two other daughters ages 1 and 3 loved helping her and asking questions. My 3 year old has a special draw towards midwifery care and Christie noticed that and went out of her way to talk to her and explain what she was doing during my appointments and would let my daughter help with it all. My husband and I loved this because it brought the family together to love and support my growing belly and our 3 year old learned so much and continues to talk about becoming a midwife when she is big. Now onto labor, it slowly built up the few weeks leading up to delivery and no matter what time it was Christie was there answering my calls and text when I was unsure about something going on. June 31st when my labor started Christie came over and checked on me and the baby and everything was well, she then came back that night and did a second check and then left to let us sleep and get ready for delivery soon. That night/morning at 12am I woke up and things where getting real. We called Christie and she was quick to answer and on her way to us. When she arrived her and my husband got the birth tub set up and all the supplies ready. When she was setting up she was so quiet and comforting allowing me to continue laboring with out interruption, but giving me the peace of mind knowing she was there to help if needed. When she came over to me to get me into the tub and she placed her hand on my back it was a feeling of warmth, comfort, and so supportive. It gave me reassurance that my body and baby know what to do and to let it natural bring him into the world. During contractions Christie and my husband stayed right there next to the tub the whole time rubbing my back and hips helping and supporting me with their words of encouragement and reminding me to breathe low and deep and to go with the contractions to bring him down low to come out. This made my birth very empowering, more relaxing, and had such a trusting, caring, and loving feel from everyone. We were so happy and pleased with Cambridge Midwifery. When we are expecting again we will not hesitate to call her again to have her walk through the next journey of life with us. She is truly amazing at what she does! She is committed to home birth as a better birth process, and because of her background she really knows what she is talking about, both about the problems that can come from hospital care and how to watch for serious medical issues that require that hospital care. Renee attended the water birth of my son (she supplied the tub). She helped me through the complication of early water breaking (four days before deliver). We had a successful home birth without pitocin, but I was confident that if we had needed to, Renee would have made the call to transfer to the hospital in a timely, non-emergency manner. Her calm, confident presence at the birth made all the difference for me. Though it is unusual, I had a tear from my birth that required stitches (normally tears can be left to heal better than sewing, but mine was a different kind) and Renee sewed me so well that several doctors who examined me since commented on what an amazing job the person had done on my stitches. For prenatal care, Renee isn't in a hurry, she gives as long as it takes to get your questions answered. She orders routine prenatal labs and ultrasounds when you need / want them, but doesn't force you to get tests you don't want. She also takes care to help mothers prepare emotionally for birth and parenthood, and she welcomes dads at prenatal visits as well. Also, she can really feel what that baby is doing inside you. Even when I couldn't tell, she knew exactly where he was and what he was doing in there. I have no regrets whatsoever about choosing Renee for my home birth, and I only hope that if I have another child I will be able to have her again, or find another midwife at least half as good.

I didn't have a good birthing experience at Kaiser - I went into Kaiser with full intention of…read moreepidural but Kaiser didn't believe I was advancing fast and they asked me to wait until it was too late for epidural; what's worse was they didn't wait for my planceta to come out so they manually removed my planceta without any pain meds. Painful isn't enough to describe the experience. Pregnant with my second son, I didn't want to repeat the experience. Knowing I am likely birth fast again, I wanted to go without pain meds again, with as much help I can get, and natural birth of the planceta. I reached out to Tashina pretty late in my pregnancy. Knowing my situation, she responded to my email right away and managed to squeeze me into her schedule. She did a very thorough interview with me and my husband, fully understood what experience we are looking for and made amazing recommendations. She recommended me with a hospital I wasn't aware of that has great staff and with midwifery care. Since I was late stage pregnant (32+weeks), she pulled all her strings to help the new hospital accept me as a patient. And all the way up until the delivery date, she was only one text/call away for any questions I had. The birth was still painful, but with the midwifery care, Tashina's preparation with me and my husband, the hot tub setup, and her being there as my advocate, the birth was quick, smooth, and no manual extraction of placenta! My second son was almost 8lbs and no tear or stitches. Even weeks after birth, Tashina came visit and always checked in with me to help me with breastfeeding issues, baby colic issues etc. Tashina is so knowledgeable, caring and loving. We will always appreciate her help and she will always be a special person in my second sons life!
