Dr Houston and Kera Tooley, NP r both great practitioners. They r experienced and knowledgeable…read more They r kind and caring. They worked with my 88 year old mother, getting her C-Pap settings and her oxygen settings to a level that was comfortable and beneficial for her. They have provided care for my illness as well. I would recommend them for anyone needing a pulmonologist.

I've never actually met this guy but my interactions have been interesting. I was referred to him…read moreby my neurologist after doing a cognitive study with a neoro pyschiatrist, that he referred. The shrink doctor deemed that I was in good shape but I had disclosed that I typically only sleep about four hours every night which apparently raised a red flag, or two, which resulted in the roundabout referral. One more note before moving on to the sleep disorder doc, staying up late and getting up early started when I was very young because my Dad worked the 2nd shift and my Mom worked the 3rd shift. I would see my Mom off to work & wait up for my Dad. We'd hang for a bit, sometimes eat a bowl of cornflakes on the porch then it would be midnight or later before hitting the sack then of course up early for school. Then there's waking up at 2:30AM to do morning radio for years, my love if sunrises, etc. well the point is my sleep habits are as old as I am and just didn't seem to be an issue. But there we were, on the way to a sleep doctor. My first consult was simply Dr. Houston calling to do a brief screen and scheduling me for a sleep study at the Sleep Center of the Gulf Coast in Foley, AL. (review forthcoming) where I had a very pleasant experience. Soon afterwards I received a call from Dr. Houston who informed me that I had horrible sleep apnea. Okay I am very familiar with sleep apnea from my years in the medical field AND the years I've spent managing #1 son's really awful sleep apnea. However I don't snore, I don't dream, I don't wake up tired or with palpations and I'm a heavy REM sleeper but I just seem to always wake up before sunrise, it's just not a symptomatically obvious case to me. I got a CPAP machine in the mail, did a telehealth orientation for the unit (thanks to Covid) and I haven't heard back from the sleep doctor to date. I am scheduled for a follow up with him in the future but that's the extent of my interactions. Bottom line: I'm not ready to voice any suppositions at this point but CPAP is a great technology for those who need them and quite frankly nearly every breathing human being could benefit from using one every night. However I am skeptical about my need for this machine and have a little bit of skecptism the process that I experienced to get here.

Services include: Neck & Back Surgery Minimally-Invasive Spine Surgery, Hip & Knee Surgery, Anterior Hip Replacement, Hand, Elbow & Shoulder Services, Shoulder Surgery, Foot & Ankle Surgery, Sports Medicine, Pain Management, On-Site MRI & Digital X-Ray, and more. In addition you can get fitted for braces, and other prosthetics here. I also appreciate that and texting with assistants with questions or appointments or any care related issues is a big plus and those secure communications are usually answered very promptly.  Bottom line: They have up to date technology to interface with patients, great communications and a professional staff. I was diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia (TN) in 2009 which is nicknamed the "suicide disease"…read more While visiting near Mobile Alabama I had a flare that would not subside. After 3 weeks of increasing and adding medications as prescribed by my NC neurologist I went to USA University Hospital ER and was subsequently admitted for 4 nights for pain control. At this time I made the decision to have Microvascular Decompression via keyhole (2 cm) craniotomy with Dr Jai Thakur. Best decision EVER! I did not realize how much of my quality of life was gone; either through medication side effects, TN diagnosis, or avoiding TN flares. I am only a week post op and my greatest risk currently is incisional infection which is minimal at this time. I have several rupture cervical discs which has made recovery a bit more challenging but once this issue was addressed in addition to some occasional incisional pain, I have been basically pain free!! For the first time in 14 years! As a retired ICU RN from a 1,000+ bed hospital in NC, I became apprehensive about several additional tests to verify information that initially delayed surgery for more than 24 hours. But then I realized I had to respect and appreciate the thoroughness Dr Thakur and his team displayed. I feel so good that I want to initiate conversations about cervical ruptured disc repair!! USA University Hospital is lucky to have such an amazing & talented physician practicing in Mobile, Alabama.

When you call you will not get a human. You will leave a message and best of luck with getting a call back. Multiple attempts through messages and calls. When I did get a call back I was promised another call for an appointment and never received one. Went in for Botox and stated my appointment was canceled from the doctor and they tried calling me. I had already confirmed through the portal. No messages were left for me regarding cancellation. It was cancelled because proper staff did not send in prior authorization to the company that sends the Botox. And two months later it has now been approved and I let them know that I would rather not deal with CNI. I really expected more. The office manager should be held accountable. The doctor should also be accountable. Your patients time is just as valuable.
