He has proven to be a very competent and caring individual that listens to my concerns and unlike several other MDs, that I've had the misfortune to encounter, he actually took the time to read my records, assess the situation and has an informed. While he seems to care, more than the average putz doctor he's one of the more compassionate MD's I've dealt with over the last 40+ years both ion and out of the medical profession and he actually seems to be genuinely committed to doing the right thing and that's seriously all that I require from any medical professional. He does a great job with my quarterly botox shots and that's a big deal for me. The office staff is professional but the group is behind the times with online offerings and who doesn't accept Discover cards, seriously? But in the scheme of things, this is the small stuff. They accept most major insurances and they do accept medicare patients as well. Bottom line: This doc went to Ohio State for undergrad, Brown for his MD and he's worked in trauma centers, VA's, and loves his home here on the Gulf Coast of AL and he is one of the good ones. Services include: Neck & Back Surgery Minimally-Invasive Spine Surgery, Hip & Knee Surgery, Anterior Hip Replacement, Hand, Elbow & Shoulder Services, Shoulder Surgery, Foot & Ankle Surgery, Sports Medicine, Pain Management, On-Site MRI & Digital X-Ray, and more. In addition you can get fitted for braces, and other prosthetics here. I also appreciate that and texting with assistants with questions or appointments or any care related issues is a big plus and those secure communications are usually answered very promptly.  Bottom line: They have up to date technology to interface with patients, great communications and a professional staff. I've never actually met this guy but my interactions have been interesting. I was referred to him…read moreby my neurologist after doing a cognitive study with a neoro pyschiatrist, that he referred. The shrink doctor deemed that I was in good shape but I had disclosed that I typically only sleep about four hours every night which apparently raised a red flag, or two, which resulted in the roundabout referral. One more note before moving on to the sleep disorder doc, staying up late and getting up early started when I was very young because my Dad worked the 2nd shift and my Mom worked the 3rd shift. I would see my Mom off to work & wait up for my Dad. We'd hang for a bit, sometimes eat a bowl of cornflakes on the porch then it would be midnight or later before hitting the sack then of course up early for school. Then there's waking up at 2:30AM to do morning radio for years, my love if sunrises, etc. well the point is my sleep habits are as old as I am and just didn't seem to be an issue. But there we were, on the way to a sleep doctor. My first consult was simply Dr. Houston calling to do a brief screen and scheduling me for a sleep study at the Sleep Center of the Gulf Coast in Foley, AL. (review forthcoming) where I had a very pleasant experience. Soon afterwards I received a call from Dr. Houston who informed me that I had horrible sleep apnea. Okay I am very familiar with sleep apnea from my years in the medical field AND the years I've spent managing #1 son's really awful sleep apnea. However I don't snore, I don't dream, I don't wake up tired or with palpations and I'm a heavy REM sleeper but I just seem to always wake up before sunrise, it's just not a symptomatically obvious case to me. I got a CPAP machine in the mail, did a telehealth orientation for the unit (thanks to Covid) and I haven't heard back from the sleep doctor to date. I am scheduled for a follow up with him in the future but that's the extent of my interactions. Bottom line: I'm not ready to voice any suppositions at this point but CPAP is a great technology for those who need them and quite frankly nearly every breathing human being could benefit from using one every night. However I am skeptical about my need for this machine and have a little bit of skecptism the process that I experienced to get here.

They'd be a 1 star but the phone person, receptionist and nurse were all quite pleasant and did a good job but that's where to good about this place begins and ends. The building is in a residential neighborhood and needs some attention inside and out. The whole place inside is sparce, out dated and frankly reminiscent of something out of the depression and it is kinda depressing. I came here to seek out a physician near my new home that could assume my pain management which I have been undergoing since my neck was broken in 2004. I've been seen by literally dozens of doctors since then but have been under regular care from my highly competent and caring neurologist in TN since 2007 and unfortunately an 8 hour drive to see her 8 times a year is not a real option. So aside from a primary care doc, a neurologist and cardiologist I have been informed that a pain management specialist would be the best course of treatment options in this area because of the intense scrutiny that doctors have been under in Alabama for nearly a decade. It really became an urgent matter here when it was discovered in 2012 that Alabama was first place in the nation for per capita opioid prescriptions with 143.8 prescriptions per 100 residents. That's 143 prescriptions for every man, woman and child in the state, insane!!! While they have made some very good progress statewide over the years the medical community is reluctant to even talk about pain management and this is where my encounter with Dr. Rony Lee and Gulf Coast Occupational, Sports, and Pain Medicine comes in. I showed up for my first appointment with a couple hundred pages of medical records, multiple x-rays, CT scans, MRI's, lab readouts, psych evaluations and current medications. It tool nearly 30 minutes to complete a lot of forms, many giving sweeping permissions and making multiple agreements to submit to all kinds of screenings and detailing all the ways that I could be dismissed from treatment, it was quite the manifesto that I'm sure is a big CYA but at the same time is kinda demeaning. So being prepared I'm escorted into the exam room with my sweetheart and after the pregunctory vitals we wait. When the doctor enters his greeting was essentially "I can't help you". What? He didn't look at any of my records or results but went in a rant about how doctors and clinics have been shut down and people arrested and how he is surprised that I've been receiving the medications, injections and other treatments that I'd listed on my forms. I initially was going into a lot of additional details but it's too personal & not really necessary but the biggest takeaways are after I made three (3) attempts to ask how he might be able to help me it tool my sweetheart two (2) different ways of asking him the same questions before he gave a short answer. His bottom line was he couldn't help and, in my opinion, he had no sympathy or empathy or a hint of any good doctor characteristics. His goodbye was a wave over his shoulder and uttering "no charge". What a relief, I wouldn't have to pay to hear him opine about his conditions. Bottom line: I feel sorry for the poor souls that end up with this sad little clinic. Stay away!!!
