Well stocked meat market for a small town. Friendly staff. Only downside is they are only open 6 days/week; closed Sunday.

Yeah, I'm reviewing a grocery store…read more Most of the time, a Safeway is a Safeway. You go there and buy groceries and go home. Unfortunately, this one needs special attention. I know it's a small town but I feel that too many businesses use that as an excuse to provide sub-par products and services. First of all, there's the quality of the stock. I regularly find food that is a week, two weeks, even a month out of date, sitting on the shelves. Slightly less regularly I find food that is even a year out of date. For example, last time I went in there was microwave popcorn still on the shelf that expired April of last year. Is it fine to eat? I'm sure it is, but it's laughable that it would still be on the shelf, and not even discounted. Secondly, the checkout lanes are always under staffed. It seems like no matter what time or what day you go shopping, there is a line stacked up at the register. Aside from the obvious annoyance of waiting in line for 10 minutes to buy 3 things, you also can't access any of the aisles near the registers due to the crowds of people standing around trying to check out. If you want to get into the freezer aisle, you have to go all the way to the back of the store, go down the freezer aisle, then turn around and go back to the rear of the store to get back out. Finally, the building itself. Front entrance door was broken for 11 days straight. This store only has one door in and one door out so we had people crowding both ways through a single door for almost 2 weeks. Again, we're kind of in the middle of nowhere, but Denver /is/ only 3 hours away. Are you seriously telling me that a Safeway in Denver couldn't get the same part and fix their door in less time? Along similar lines, the deli was broken for about 8 days recently. I just stopped in one day, the lights are out, and a sign says "deli closed". So for a week we had no cakes, no pies, no deli food, no sandwiches, no bagels, no doughnuts, and no cookies. No explanation. Sadly, there isn't a lot of other options. Douglas Grocery is the locally owned alternative but they are closed at 6PM every weekday and not open on Sundays. For those of us who have to do our shopping on Sundays and/or after 6PM, we get to go to Safeway. On the plus side, I pay a lot closer attention to what I'm purchasing when I have to make sure my fresh produce isn't moldy and my meats aren't expired.

We have tried several different sandwiches, and the prime rib is delicious. As a family, we always try to get the specials because we love trying new foods, and they never miss. After moving back to Casper from a larger city, I really appreciate the variety of cuisines they offer here. The take home meals are such a win too. They are healthy, delicious, and perfect for busy nights when fast food or a frozen meal feels like the only option. There is always something new, something different, and it is always delicious. If you have not stopped by since they shifted to a more food focused cafe, I cannot encourage you enough to give them a try. I promise you will want to come back. Also, all the sweet treats here are great as a sweet tooth connoisseur. Their legit take on the viral chocolate in a tart is a 10 out of 10. And the coffee bar is really good. My husband gives the coffee a gold star, which is not given lightly. I am really picky about matcha, iykyk, and they actually use real matcha. Easily the best matcha latte in town. They also have honestly great prices for coffee drinks. Lastly, again, support local and totally put Grant St. on your map as a regular stop for meals and caffeine pick me ups.
