The ice is kept up very well even with all the pebbling that is supposed to be there. Curling may look boring to watch on tv and it is, but it is a lot of fun to get out and do it. Between falling down and laughing at everyone's terrible skills you will have a lot of fun. This is a very affordable place to get a group out curling. We have staff and spouses out and it does not break the bank. The sports centre also has a hockey rink with an Olympic sized ice. The sports centre has a cafeteria that overlooks the hockey rink and has a licenced lounge area overlooking the curling rink that can be rented out for after curling/hockey dinners and celebrations.

Climbing shoes, harness, and grigri rental is included in the lesson price. The instruction given was clear, and helpful. They also tested me by purposely doing things wrong (grigri on the wrong side, the rope is too long, etc), and asked me to verify that everything is good to go. I got the chance to belay the other lesson taker, and the instructor would pointed out what habit I need to fix. After the lesson, I got a piece of paper to review what I learned today. I also got a bit of free time to climb on my own. 7 days trial is included in lesson so that you can climb and practice more. The oval climbing gym offers bouldering (small section), lead, and speed climbing. Pretty solid climbing gym in my opinion!

There were about 10 tables in the room. So, not a tiny intimate wedding celebration but not a super large one either compared to pretty much most other weddings I've been to in my life which probably had 2 - 3 times as many tables in the room. There was a 6pm reception and then dinner at 7pm. At the reception, servers were walking around handing out hors d'oeuvres to the guests. Service was kinda "meh." We were standing around in a corner and saw one of the servers walk up to some other people and serve them some hors d'oeuvres, inches away from us but then they turned and walked off in another direction without actually approaching our own group to offer us some hors d'oeuvres. That was kinda weird. I ended up wandering off into the dining room and grabbing an hors d'oeuvres for myself when I saw another server with a different tray of hors d'oeuvres on it. Other than the one server who spun on their heels without offering anything to us, service from everyone else was pretty decent. I think there were about 4 different hors d'oeuvres. Two of them had meat in them so I couldn't eat those. The other two had seafood in them, which I still eat being pescatarian so I was able to enjoy those. One was a prawn tempura and the other was a crab cake. Loved the crab cake! The bar had 4 different Mocktails available. My daughter and I both ordered something called a Stingray which consisted of pineapple juice, orange juice and soda. It wasn't bad but we both decided that we prefer the taste of a Shirley Temple over a Stingray. Dinner was buffet style. Lots of different options for various dietary restrictions. The food was very good. Especially the Sablefish. Oh wow...soooo tender. I couldn't resist going back for seconds! I love languages, and at UBC, I took a Swedish course. I fell in love with the language (I also had…read morean awesome teacher, which played a big role in loving Swedish so much), so when I graduated from UBC, I wanted to continue studying Swedish. Unfortunately I was only able to complete one year of Swedish due to the timing of my graduation, and I couldn't take the second year Swedish class after I graduated because the course was only offered during the day, which interfered with having to work. However, I found out that Swedish (and the other Nordic languages) was offered at the Scandinavian Community Center, and took some classes over the years. The teacher was nice, but the quality of the instruction was nothing compared to UBC. But it was definitely better than nothing, and the price was very reasonable. The last time I took lessons at the Scandinavian Community Center was years ago, probably 2013. I'd love to take more lessons, but taking transit there is a nightmare. The community center is in the middle of nowhere, and there are two busses you can take from Metrotown Station, the #110 and #144 buses. The bus ride is quite long, 20 to 30 minutes (because they take these meandering routes), the timing is such that they arrive way before the class starts or minutes after it starts, and the two buses leave Metrotown within minutes of each other, so you miss one, and you miss both. And in the evening, the timing doesn't align with the class's end time, so you either have to leave class early or wait for half an hour in the dark, at an unlit bus stop, that's just a bus stop sign stuck in a ditch on the side of a super busy highway. Perhaps things are different than when I took lessons, but back then, to walk to and from the bus stop to the center (which was at night, as the class starts at 7pm and ends at 9pm), there was no sidewalk so you had to walk on the side of a busy highway and hope a car didn't hit you. It was particularly terrifying when it was pitch black (there was no lighting) and raining. I'd love to give the Scandinavian Community Center more stars, and I'd love to take more Swedish lessons, but the location is horrible and not reasonably transit accessible, and the instruction is only so-so, so not worth it for me to make the trek.

There were lockers available but we just put our stuff on the tables and benches. Reservations and pricing - booked the reservation via their online platform through catch corner. The pricing wasn't clear online so I had to call ahead of doing the online reservation myself. The online price for the court time for 8+ is the fee set for 8 players. While you can have more players on your court (which makes it great to not have to have finalized group numbers until the day of), the website wasn't clear that basically for anything more than 8, the additional players just had to pay in person instead of online. It would have been easier if the website outlined that the court is meant for x number of players to y number of players and the fee is simply for 8 people. Our group ended up having more than 8 players so we paid for the additional players at the end of our session however staff advised that the in person pricing was actually a few dollars cheaper than the online booking as you're also paying online service fees. They advised that you can simply call in to make a reservation too and staff would just take a credit card deposit for 4 players worth so that would have been a good tip to know when I called in initially..... No one in our group has tried archery tag before. Overall, we had a good and fun experience. All the protective gear is provided and the staff also utilized the first portion of the reservation to teach you and let you practice using the bow and arrow and shooting targets. Since the courts are "beaches", no shoes and socks were allowed. There was a feet washing station so crocs and a towel to dry your feet would've been good items to bring. There's a lot of running around during the game but there's a break between each game. Be sure to bring water otherwise they do offer drinks and food as well.

The parking lot also has LED lights now and is much brighter than before.

It is located right under SFU, off of the Barnet Hwy It's kind of crazy to see volleyball being played in the inner part of the oval while bike racers whizz around the outside. Mind you it's usually one or the other . Yes you can rent bikes here and get coaches for those interested in giving the track a go.

There are community centres in the U.S. but not so many, not so well run, and not so inclusive of the whole neighborhood. Riley Park Community Centre is one of the many community centres that is a short bike ride from my home. It has an amazing pool called the Aquatic Centre at Hillcrest Park. The pool is clean and heated. There is plenty of parking for your vehicle or bicycle. There's also a fitness center. A brand new public library branch is currently being constructed adjacent to the pool facilities. During the winter months, the parking lot becomes a farmer's market on Saturdays. What more can you ask for?
