Clean and inviting entrance at the DoubleTree by Hilton (Lafayette, Indiana)
    Daniel J.

I stayed at this DoubleTree by Hilton (Lafayette, Indiana) in June of 2024. Upon approaching this hotel, I was pleased to see how well kept the premises was and how inviting the entrance was. My check-in was smooth. The young lady checking me in was professional, but I thought it was strange that she did not want to make eye contact with me during my check-in. The young man standing next to her was more pleasant, and he made sure I got some free cookies before I completed my check-in. The furniture and decorations at this hotel are incredibly classy, warm and pleasing to the eye. I had two queen-sized beds in my room, along with all the typical items one would expect to find in any hotel. The one exception was that my room, and I suspect all rooms here, did not have a microwave. I almost always use the microwave whenever I stay at all my hotels, so I found this strange not to have one. My room was incredibly clean, and it was quiet during my stay. My bed was comfortable, and the bathroom was clean and enjoyable as well. I had a nice stay here; However, I do wish this hotel had free coffee available in the lobby like they do at some other Hilton brands. Overall, my stay here was enjoyable. My check-out was smooth and easy with a young lady who was professional and pleasant. More than anything, I was happy to stay here completely for free because I have a ton of Hilton Honors membership points to use up from all my business trips. I'd be happy to stay here once again the next time I'm in the area.

I know to travel with earplugs now, because room air conditioners are much too loud for me to be able to sleep and there was lots of road noise from the freeway. This was a nice hotel, newer with a nice entry with a blazing fireplace. The room was comfortable and the bathroom was adequate with a nice walk in shower. Breakfast was available for purchase. I can't eat $20 worth of breakfast, but there was coffee available in the room and a warm, welcoming chocolate chip cookie was delightful! Beware of the Keurig, it made one cup of coffee, and then completely died. I had to go down stairs for a cup of tea.

Enjoy the stay at the nice hotel and with great hospitality and furnishing in the rooms. Be ready to pay for the quality that you get. It's a bit further away from our intended visit for our daughter although it's worth while. We have become a regular visit through our corporate card. Plan to visit again when out daughter is in school nearby.

A nice fire pit on the patio.

I had a wonderful stay at DoubleTree from Sep 21 to 24. The staff was absolutely wonderful and extremely helpful. The evening bartenders (I forget the two women's names) were so much fun. Also, the hotel gives you a nice warm cookie (an oatmeal raisin in my case) upon check-in. The hotel was really clean, and I did not have any negative issues with my room. If I ever return Lafayette, I definitely will stay here. The hotel is about a 20-min Uber ride to Purdue University's main campus. If you have an early morning appointment or event at Purdue, you may want to schedule your Uber the night before or give yourself an extra 45 minutes. Although the hotel has its own restaurant, you have plenty of dining options (a couple of steakhouses, fast food places, IHoP, Denny's, etc.) within walking distance of the hotel. One small thing. If you have an option to select your room's floor, I would go for a room that is on the first or second floor. I say this because the hotel has only one elevator and it moves pretty slowly.

The lobby was packed with kids and there was an adult, at the desk, with a laptop out trying to figure out rooms with the employees. I stood there a couple minutes trying to figure out if I could go around all the kids and check in. I finally did and thankfully the other employee was able to pull away from the laptop and get our room. Parking was fine and we got unloaded with a cart. Getting the cart through the lobby with all the kids wasn't easy. Not the hotel's fault they didn't understand moving aside when asked. We got to the room which looked nice. We quickly discovered the door to the hallway was very thin. You could hear everything from the hallway. The bathroom has a sliding door and definitely was not sound proof at all. Everything else about the room was fine. At around 1:00am there was a group of people in the hallway. Woke all of us up and we were about to call and complain when they finally moved on. Breakfast was packed! I felt bad for the one employee trying to keep everything stocked. He was running around doing the best he could. We managed to squeeze into one small table, which was the only one available. Could this hotel have potential, yes! Try to avoid a youth retreat group stopping the same time.

It was a grim experience (no fault of Uriel or the Hilton - avoid Rocket Travel by Agoda like your life depends on it), but Uriel made it all work out. Our king room was comfy and well furnished. The A/C was cold, the views from the non-opening windows were pleasant, we had plenty of towels (service only every other day, but you can always get more at the front desk) and the was a coffee machine. Decent outlets and lighting and the black-out shades worked well. Quiet environs and a comfy bed gave us good sleep. Great location for walking to food and bev options, or just for exercise. All the staff we encountered were pleasant. WiFi worked fine in the room. Elevators weren't Vegas-fast, but worked fine. Parking was in a city garage nearby but was hassle free. Best stay I've had in the area in a while. It wasn't fancy, but it was reasonable and it was convenient.

I said that was fine, I did find it strange but whatever. I showed up for breakfast, the woman asked me what I'd like, I said "scrambled eggs, no bacon. I'm allergic to pork" she stood there in silence, blank look in her eyes like she didn't care. I repeated myself, "I'm allergic to pork" again, blank look in her eyes like she didn't care. I've been in hotels in small town USA and when I say I'm allergic to pork they have some sort of response. She clearly could care less. The eggs were over cooked, the potatoes were reheated (that's not a problem with me) but they were cold. The TURKEY sausage was probably microwaved because it was hot for 3 seconds, then quickly got cold and became chewy. I know toast is suppose to be dry, but how do you make dry toast, it was bad, I had to pull to tear the bread away. Was it stale? The orange juice was probably Tropicana or something gross When they said we have a restaurant, I was expecting more. This woman's claim to fame was being on 'Iron Chef' this hotel "breakfast" is in Lafayette Indiana, college town, wasn't included in my hotel reservation I had to PAY FOR IT I've had hotel breakfast, in Dodgeville Wisconsin that was included better than this. I discovered a colony of ants in the dark carpet on the floor. Followed their trail all the way to my door where I seen them coming in from the bottom left side of the door. I talked to staff at the front who said they would have maintenance come. I asked to have them call after he was done, they didn't. He did come and when I came back after work I seen that the dead ants were still on the kitchen wall. Ants were still coming from the same side of the door. I talked to 2 different staff members who apologized and moved me to an alternate room(handicapped room). It seemed better so I agreed. Boy was I wrong! The paper towels left in the room were dirty, the fridge was not thoroughly cleaned, the curtains were torn, the pans in the cabinet were dirty, there's no sponges to hand wash, and the carpet in both places was torn as well! The pans, plates and utensils were placed in the top cabinets, so if you're handicapped and in a wheelchair, you would never be able to reach them unless you called for assistance or had someone with you to grab them. The only things accessible in the room were the sinks, shower, refrigerator, and sliding dishwasher. If you wanted to clean your dishes you would have to put them in the dishwasher and hope that they left you dishwasher detergent. Because the first room didn't even have that. Bugs were better but definitely still present. All in all I will never stay here again, the staff were kind and I don't have an issue with how I was treated but the cleanliness and upkeep are terrible and the whole place needs a remodel! Even the outside is covered in bugs, so seeing the ants & spider webs in my room just made it worse. And lastly to end things with a cherry on top. I attempted to take a shower Thursday morning to discover there was no hot water. Not from the shower, the bathroom sink or the kitchen sink. Apparently a pipe busted, they had a water leak and this damaged the hot water heater. They had a plumber come, however, a tech would not be in until Friday afternoon. Thankfully, there are gyms nearby so I was able to shower there before I left Friday morning.

In addition to the smell of gas throughout, I could not take a shower. Considering the new renovations, the state of the shower in my room was deplorable. And my room isn't the only one like that.
