This hotel has a nice view overlooking the lake. The staff is wonderful and my room came with an unexpected upgrade which was delightful! The people/staff are courteous, helpful and proud to be working here. The breakfast is SUPERB! From an array of all western food fare to Local fruit to an entire hot Asian food counter, this breakfast is of endless possibilities! Loved the coffee and efficiency of staff around the heavy crowds for mealtimes. Easy access to the airport.

Beautiful hotel. Not the best location but the room was so amazing it made up for it. I don't know if this is just bad timing but there is only one bridge into town and it's only one way!! So the line of cars can really pile up. Plus, on one side two lanes merge into the one lane road so it takes twice as long for that side to move. It looks like they are building a second bridge, however, so hopefully that will be done soon cause that will make traffic a lot better into and out of town. Back to our hotel: the room is spacious. We had a nice little living room with a beautiful view of the city. The bed was big and super comfy, we slept like babies! The bathroom was really nice. Not the biggest but it got the job done. There is a big window for the shower but they give you a curtain for it so you can have some privacy. The room also came with little slippers, which I always appreciate! Looking forward to spending a few night here!

Sherwood Queenstown - Twice cooked potato

Great restaurant at a surprisingly reasonable price for Queenstown…read more Food 4 / 5: In general, food was solid. The ingredient quality of some of the vegetables was phenomenal but some of the others were a bit meh. The dishes we got were: 1) Garlic flatbread 4/5: They have a wood fired oven so it came out the way it should and the garlic / rosemary flavor was good but it was over salted. 2) radishes with yogurt 4/5: Radish quality was excellent but the yogurt was pretty bland. 3) salt baked baby beets 3/5: Beets were a bit too dry and generally of pretty average quality. 4) lettuce salad 5/5: Amazing ingredient quality with everything in here, particularly the sprouts. Didn't want to stop eating this! 5) twice cooked potatoes 2/5: Potatoes were cooked fine but the sauce was pretty bland. 6) Spring carrots 5/5: Great carrot quality and very well flavored 7) Asparagus 5/5: Amazingly cooked and flavored (with something that reminded us of balsamic vinegar). This is a must order Service and place 4/5: Service was generally attentive and friendly, but a few things to note. 1) The chairs are bar stools and don't have backs 2) we were seated next to the kitchen which was noisy and lot of food aroma + heat from wood fired oven carried over 3) it took a while at the end to get our waitress to come and pack our food

It took 30 minutes to get a drink and over an hour for our first course to come out. Our main course came out almost 2 hours after we first ordered. Several others in our section were also waiting a very long time for their orders. It was only maybe an hour and a half into being there that someone came over and apologized to the tables in our section for the kitchen being "slammed." The restaurant was not at full capacity - many tables were empty - and they did not appear to be short staffed with front of house. Maybe they were just having an off night, but was definitely expecting a higher level of service for what I expected to be a fine dining experience.

You should stay here. Really. We've stayed at Cypress Inn,…read moreDoris Day's place in Carmel, which was off the Richter for character and charm. There's a wonderful little place we stayed at in Orange called Cotehele which is about a thousand years old and comfy as anything. Truly magic place especially in Winter under snow. We had one of our anniversary holidays at Hatherly Birrell Collection in Lonny* which amps up heritage, art and style. But..... The Dairy is better. For a start it's in Queenstown, and nowhere on Earth is there anything as spectacular as the little town on Lake Whykikamoocow under the Remarkables. I'm so glad Gen Y didn't find the 'Remarks' or they would be called 'The Like, Awsomes' Second it is authentic. It used to be a Dairy until a couple of blokes did it up and turned it into a boutique hotel. Its got history and class. To burn. Third, its now run by two of the nicest people you will ever meet even if one of them is a Kiwi. Hi Bevan! BTW, how did you get so lucky as to marry a gorgeous Aussie like Kim? CarnthaWallabies. Nothing is a problem. Every whim is their command. Alex the Elvis impersonator is on hand to bring the best brekky in the southern hemisphere.** He can tell you where to ski and where to get a Rhinestone jumpsuit. The view from our room was better than TV. We just sat and looked out the window. After a day's skiing we would fall into the hot tub and Kim would bring us champagne flutes and an ice bucket. Fresh towels and robes provided. The location is perfect. Walking distance to ski field buses, and the middle of town is a two minute roll down the hill, but its still quiet enough that you can't hear the Irish and Pommy backpackers at two in the morning, a problem in others Hotels, or so I heard on a chairlift. The brekky is touted as a feature on other review sites and rightly so. It is drop dead fantastic and it means you don't need lunch - which for me is extraordinary. I don't know what they have done to their pigs in the Shaky Isles but my God they make super bacon! And Elvis is always happy to load a few more rashers on board. With a smile and a chat. A very cool guy indeed. With a car that has been diagnosed as a 'ticking time bomb' which he drives to the ski fields. Brave man, I assure you. Driving to The Remarkables is like a double black run for experts only! Afternoon tea in front of a cracking open fire is wonderful. Little home made cakes and scones, or so Keeno tells me - I was having a nap at that time of day. Or Skiing. Thats the thing about this place, its just so friendly. Everyone is blissed out, just enjoying the town and the hospitality. I reckon that The Dairy is the new benchmark for hospitality. The rooms are great, the bathrooms are spotless and the hot water is strong and endless. I tested it. Wi Fi is amazingly quick and trouble free. I heard our American friends Brittany and Andrew thank Bevan and Kim for helping with their heli hiking, bungy jumping, jet boating, and glacier flights. Our Brazilian neighbours could be seen wandering around the Library and just staring into the distance. Bevan recommended some places to eat, most of which I had already found on Yilp***, with the notable exceptions of Belle Cucina and Eichardts. That Eichardt recommendation in itself earned him hero status with me. At least until the World Cup. What a place! We will be back. *Launceston, Tasmania **We down under are very fond of being the best at anything in the Southern Hemisphere. It means we have beaten Chile. And the bottom province of Equatorial Guinea. And Namibia. ***'Yelp' in New Zealand...ish (?)

We had an excellent view of the lake and a large patio. We especially enjoyed the convenience of the mini-bar and the prices were reasonable. There is a free shuttle to downtown but it's best to confirm as some of the set times are only available by request. Rooms: We had the superior 2 bedroom. We had a lovely mountain view from the patio. The fireplace is warm and cozy, even if it's not real wood. The master bedroom opens to the view but the second bedroom is on the smaller side. Kitchen and living room were spacious and everything was very clean. There are heated floors in the bathroom and heated towel racks. The washer and dryer were very good. Service: Front desk service was hit or miss. We checked in twice after spending one night in Te Anau. Some of the staff were friendly and some were stoic. We were unable to eat at the restaurant because it was booked up but the bar menu was delicious and we were able to enjoy the view while eating. They held our luggage for us several times. I would definitely stay at this hotel again if I ever come back. The view is gorgeous and the spacious apartment was lovely.
