Happy to report this update. The property continues to be a very solid four stars. All aspects of my stay from check-in, to accommodations, to interactions with staff were excellent. The only negative is the rooms on technology still are behind with plugins. However my king suite was top notch. Our group utilized the banquet facilities again this year and they continue to be great! Hopefully our group will book the same room block for next year. I don't recall if I stayed here before, but it did look familiar. Located within walking distance of the nice bougie food area. The front desk clerk was really friendly and quick checking me in. Even gave me 2 cookies! Recognized my Hilton status and explained the amenities of the hotel. They have a Starbucks inside, but also a nice Elements bar and restaurant. Even the barmaid at the restaurant was pretty funny and friendly. The room I had was nice. No issues with internet or comfort. The fitness center was nice as well. The hotel is in bit of a need for upgrade. read more

We spent 3 nights in King Suite 501. Overall, the room was quiet, very spacious, well appointed, and clean. The beds were of moderate comfort. Every interaction we had with the staff was very positive and friendly. The location is very convenient to the downtown area and easy walking to many great restaurants and attractions. I wouldn't recommend the breakfast though in the onsite restaurant. It was of mediocre quality with very limited offerings and overpriced. We had a much better breakfast for half the price a block away at Daisy's. It was nice to have an actual full Starbucks in the hotel though too. If ever back in the Newark area, I would definitely stay here again. read more

Small rooms, small bathrooms. Double queen beds. Breakfast is the same all the time but good. A star bucks inside. Most of the check in staff are friendly. Big exercise area. This time of year pool not up to my standards, but corporate says it's " safe to swim in "..... ( update )... after starting there for 2 weeks straight you start to notice things.. especially the breakfast. The pastries are old and rock hard never rotated, there's a 50/50 chance the food on the buffet is still raw and uncooked. The coffee is either crazy strong or water.. I usually got there as they opened, it was all supposed to be fresh. read more

Don't let the exterior fool you (looks like it's from the late 80's/early 90's), this place is solid. Updated and clean rooms, clean lobby and pool/workout room, Starbuck's in lobby is convenient all day long... the staff - EXTREMELY FRIENDLY and eager to help - a young woman (I think her name was R.J., or something) was top-notch; the night staff helped us out with paper plates and plasticware for our carry-out food. Excellent location, a quick 1 block walk to downtown. If I'm ever down there again, I will happily patronize this hotel. BONUS: got to meet the band TOTO while staying there! read more

This was my first time at this hotel. The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. The room was fantastic. I arrived around midnight. Many times when arriving late, you tend to get (at least in my experience) the not so happy graveyard staff member. Not at this hotel! The late night person was prompt, friendly and made me feel welcome. They even give you a warm gooey cookie - it was delicious. The room was tidy, clean and well set up. When asking for extra tea and shampoo, I was always provided with what I needed and helped with a smile by every single staff member. The bathroom was clean, organized and welcoming. The heater worked well and kept me warm and cozy during this cold/wet weather trip. The hotel is easy to get to and with a restaurant in house, it makes it very convenient if you dont want to go out for dinner. Next time I am in the area, I know which hotel to stay at :) read more

The hotel has a staff that goes beyond the call of duty to help guests, from housekeeping to the front desk. They all had positive attitudes, focused on solving problems. Sue in Housekeeping tracked us down to give us a phone we left in the room before we pulled out of the driveway and the evening clerk helped us with getting a needed charger. Bonus: the hotel is a short walk from tons of nice restaurants in the cute downtown. read more

I stayed here the week of 7/29 and overall had a good experience, with some observations about the condition of my room. First off the front desk staff is exceptional! Very friendly, quick to get me checked in and helpful with regard to dining options both in the hotel restaurant and with local options (I didn't dine in the hotel restaurant so can't say anything about that). The lobby and common areas were very clean and neat, and it looks like the hotel had a refresh fairly recently (3-5 years?). If you're a gym rat like me you'll really appreciate the gym as it not only had boxes for box jumps, but also a cable pull rig with plenty of weight, and the creme de la creme were the dumbells that go up to 80lbs! Most hotels top out at 50lbs, so these leave the bigger guys more options for hypertrophy and strength training. There's a Starbucks connected directly to the hotel, simply walk through the lobby and down a hallway and you're there! The room unfortunately was just ok, as the carpet was not very clean with multiple stains and a visible cloud of dust when I removed my socks after walking across it. The bathroom was ok but dimly lit, and the grout in the shower had multiple stains/mold? No complaints though with the function of the shower, toilet and sink as all worked great. The bed was great, however the pillows were perhaps down filled as they initially felt full but "deflated" to near flat once my head hit them. Not terribly comfortable, and having stayed at another DT in Akron, it was a bit disappointing as I didn't have that problem at the Akron location. Overall it was not bad though, and I would likely book this hotel again if I am back in the area. read more

My band played a gig in Newark recently, and a couple of our members decided to spend the night in this hotel after the show. Four of us had pizza delivered to the hotel around dinnertime. The woman at the reception desk was very friendly and helpful, allowing us to have our "dinner" at a table right in the middle of their lobby. They even brought us plates and napkins and cleaned up for us afterwards! If this is indicative of the customer service here I feel comfortable recommending this hotel to travelers stopping in Newark. The lobby was very clean and well appointed. I did not see any of the actual rooms or other facilities so I am rating it with four stars based on what I did see. Overall, it was a very good experience for me. [UPDATE: I heard from the folks who spent the night here that the room was perfect and the amenities were top notch, so I am upgrading my rating from four to five stars.] read more

Wound up here by accident when another hotel lost our reservation, and looking back now I'd say we caught a break. The room was spacious, clean and quiet, the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was also clean and not at all cramped. The chewy, thick chocolate chip cookie received on arrival was delicious Front desk staff were always courteous and professional. I think this was something else before it became a Doubletree, and the rooms show noticeable wear, as well as evidence of past renovations. But it's still in far better condition than most hotels of its age. The one frustration with the place was the climate control. The room was heated to nearly 80 when we walked in and though we tried to set the thermostat for 68, we couldn't get it to go below 72. But, that's close enough to my comfort zone that I didn't lodge a complaint. As good a lodging option as you'll find in Newark, and one that would be satisfactory anywhere. read more

Had to get out of the house for a night out. Spent the night at the Double Tree. Very nice room great TV. Bathroom was clean and well stocked, very quiet environment. I would recommend this hotel. My review is probably going to be echoing quite a few reviews on here. My husband and I are here in Newark for his work trip and decided to book doubletree since we always enjoy their hotels. Well, this is probably the worst doubletree we stay at! When we got to the hotel, we waited 20 minutes for the front desk person to show up (they were installing fire alarms, so I can't blame him for being short staffed). The front desk was friendly and super nice though! When we arrived to our room, our bathroom reek of mildew smell and there were some brown bits (not sure if it's stomped chocolate or something else) into the corner next to the shower. The shower had long hair in the tub that was obviously not mine. The lamp in our room had traces of crusted food/drink on it. The air conditioner is also extremely loud. We brush it off since we're in a rural town, thinking housekeeping would clean it the next day. Nope, either housekeeping is severely understaffed or has 0% care in this hotel. The only thing we noticed they did in our room was empty the trash and gave us new soap. Our bed was barely made and the same dirty spots were still there in plain sight. read more

This Doubletree is located in the heart of Newark. Walking distance to the town square, restaurants, and other historic sites. The staff is exceedingly friendly and helpful. They made our week long stay comfortable and answered numerous questions. My only complaint is that the black out curtains have 3 separate seams where light comes through. Had to get creative, thank goodness for binder clips! read more

We just spent Labor Day on Saturday and Sunday. This was home base for our daily excursions to Hudson Lake. We were there with me and my husband, and we are in our 50's, our 14 year old daughter, and 2 grand daughter's that are 11 and 13. There were no issues checking in at all. It was smooth as silk and I appreciate that! We didn't have a lot of interaction with the front desk. They only knew about the hotel and the limited places around town that they've been. They were unable to recommend any places specifically. The director of sales or GM should have a little book behind the counter with a list of steakhouses, good local breakfast places, and other points of interest for these people. Barbara, the housekeeper was unbelievable! That woman went above and beyond the call of duty, fixing any issues we had, like not enough towels and wash clothes, helping me get the excess garbage out of of my room when she was well past my room, and just being a sweetheart in general. The head housekeeper came to bitch at me about what the thing on the door meant, that says "come back later" or whatever. But once she heard why we were there, she was kind and helpful and I appreciate that. So the housekeeping staff that I encountered was spot on. Other things that housekeeping had nothing to do with: 1) The beds are new, but they're the hard as a rock new kind.. If you're into that, then this is the place for you. My husband and I had to take pain relievers the next morning, they were that hard. 2) No microwave in the room. It's not like there wasn't any room. They want you to eat in their overpriced restaurant and that's the problem with almost all hotels that have a restaurant. 3) So that means there was no real free food in the lobby. It was less than a continental breakfast and it closes was too early for a holiday weekend. Again, they want you to grab something to eat in their restaurant, 4) There is no hot tub, even though the photos make it look like there is. The pool was really warm, but we need a hot tub. That was a big disappointment. We could have stayed anywhere within a 20 mile radius and it was my fault for not paying better attention to the amenities. It's unlikely that we'll stay here again. I liked the hotel. It was pretty and convenient to where we needed top be, but I was hoping for more and ddn't get it. read more

This hotel is absolutely well-kept and clean. Fixtures are modern. Plenty of seating. Good workout area and pool. The bar/restaurant is good size with a great outdoor patio and fire pit. Quick access to anything downtown. Management was great! Especially Kelsey... A+ Had one little issue and she handled it top priority. Everyone working there was friendly and smiled a lot. The rooms were spacious and modern as well. Good views of local downtown and churches. Close distance to Bryn Du Mansion for all the events they offer. I was best man for my brothers wedding. Got him a suite and I also had to two standard rooms in my family. Stayed two nights. Cleaned the place very well and always there for you if needed. Highly recommend. I have had the opportunity to stay at this location about 6 times or so. Pros are that their associates are always enthusiastic, welcoming and make sure to ask if you need anything else. Rooms have always been clean and accommodating. Love their pillows! Cons - wifi is slow at times, and the food is just not the best. Would recommend an improvement with the quality of the food, and diversifying the options. Since I have stayed here for a couple years now, I have not seen much of a change with their food menu. Staff and waiters/waitresses are polite and the bar at Elements is a good one. read more

Stayed here for a work conference. This is a smaller hotel just recently turned into a Hilton property. It was quite nice and very comfortable. I had a very nice king size bed and love the pillows. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating. Every time I came through the lobby I was greeted with a friendly hello. booked a suite for the night before and the night of my wedding. I had a large bridal party and so we were all getting ready here the day of the wedding and then my husband and I would stay the night of. Well, we checked in the Friday of, and as soon as my bridesmaid and I walked in, the room smelled so bad of stale Chinese food it was almost unbearable. We looked past it, sprayed some room spray, and continued on. We set our stuff down got ready for the rehearsal and left. Later that night myself and 3 bridesmaids came back to settle in and get some sleep. We had called down to get some more blankets and pillows and the lady brings some up, forgets the pillows but brings some comforters all balled up in her arms. My friend takes one from her and as she opens it up to use it a huge centipede silverfish thing jumps out and starts crawling. Then, we go to pull the couch bed out and the couch is covered in spot like stains that we didn't even want to think about where they came from! Still trying To make the best of this, my friend was in bed and I'm about to get in bed, it's about 1:00 in the morning I believe at this point, and, I pull the covers back and there are bugs on the pillow on the corner of the mattress and on top of the sheet! Our stuff had been in there all day! So we hurried up and packed our things and ran downstairs. As I told the nightshift employee, her response was super alarming... not, "oh my Gosh I am so sorry!" But instead, "yeah, it's really hard to keep up with them when people bring them in..." I'm sorry what? Did she know they were in there? So she tried to find us somewhere else to stay after I shoved 4 car loads of stuff into my car including my wedding dress... the only place that had a room was the Granville inn, but they could only accommodate us until 11am the next day, which, as I stated, we were supposed to be getting ready there for the wedding, so that wasn't going to work. Then, she offers a solution, "how about you go to the Granville inn, get some sleep, and then start getting ready there... and at 11 when they make you leave, just pack up and move over here and you can use our conference room to finish getting ready...I can assure you our buckeye room doesn't have bed bugs." Wow. Because, on my wedding day, that's what I'd like to do, get half ready then move 9 bridesmaids, a flower girl, 2 hairdressers, a makeup artist, and a photographer from Granville to Newark and then back for the wedding. We ended up driving clear over to the other side of Columbus at about 2:30 am to stay in my friends apartment and then had to wake up super early and make my apartment photo ready, as this was our only option. I can't even begin to tell you the amount of stress this caused for my wedding day. Not only did I get about an hour of sleep, I threw everything away that I had in the room with me, with the exception of my wedding dress, because it was in a bag. I wish I could post a video for you to see, so that you would have proof rather than reading this and then reading the hotels response which will I'm sure say nothing was found. Just beware. I was embarrassed bc I booked this hotel pretty far in advance, thinking from past experiences this would be such a nice hotel to get ready in the day of. Boy was I wrong. read more

We have been staying at this hotel for the better part of 30 years. It has maintained its small town feel with the change of each owner. Currently a Doubletree Hilton and by far the best stay yet! We stayed here Thanksgiving and the day after. It was a great experience. Everything was clean and fresh, we were on 6th floor and beautiful view of the courthouse after it was lit for the Christmas season. To top it off I be leave we had the best night's sleep that we ever had at a motel, bed was more comfortable than our own. read more

This hotel needs some serious help. The rooms were pretty filthy. The carpets in my room were completely covered in huge stains everywhere, my parents room had gum all over the carpet in their room, and all over their ceiling. Upon walking into my room, the giant floor lamp in the corner was completely broken and the whole top half was hanging down by a wire. Desk chair was broken. I called down and told them and then she was surprised when I asked her to remove it since I had a 2 year old with me. There was a spot of blood on the curtains in not only my room, but my parents room as well across the hall. Both rooms were so incredibly dusty, you could see literal filth on lots of fixtures, the comforters were just wrapped in 2 flat sheets, just not at all what you would expect with a Doubletree by Hilton. Upon checkin we were given gluten free cookies that had expired over 3 months ago too. Needless to say it was a gross experience to have my toddler with me in a room that I bought Clorox wipes, tried to clean myself and made sure everyone kept socks on at all times. read more
