This is not the best Doubletree I've stayed in. It's not aging well with signs of wear and tear everywhere. There is a strong smell in the hallways and rooms...a combination of mildew and cleaner. This hotel really needs a refresh. We arrived late at the end of a long drive. Decided to have apps and drinks in the bar. The area was filthy with our feet sticking to the floor as we walked to the dirty table. Menu limited and they were out of basic things so we ordered a pizza. It came out raw. The waitress apologized and brought it back to be heated through. In spite of the rundown condition of hotel and restaurant, I'm giving the stay 3 stars because of the staff. Everyone from the front desk to the bar/restaurant was friendly and helpful. And the indoor pool looked nice.

    Elevator stuck on 3rd floor

By far the worst Double Tree hotel my family has ever experienced. Serious safety concerns. We were checked in by a young lady that directed us to use the lobby elevator to get to our 3rd floor room. On our ride up with our toddler and another family of 3 (going to the 4th floor) the elevator came to a jarring stop as it reached our floor. The doors did not open and we shared a concerned look with the other family. My husband and the other man pried the doors open and the elevator was 6" above the floor, so we all immediately got off. They informed us that the day prior they also had a problem with the elevator, and we joked that we would all take the stairs from then on. My husband immediately called the front desk to inform them and it did not seem like a serious concern. He put a trashcan in front of the elevator, which he was told "management would not be happy with" (well customer safety should be a bigger concern). Eventually a sign was taped to the door saying temporarily out of service, repairs would happen soon. When we returned from dinner the signs were gone so we trusted that proper repairs had been made. On our ride up we read the posted inspection certificate and realized that the elevator was out of date on its inspection and it stated that it was unlawful to operate if that was the case. We brought this up and explained the elevator getting stuck to the front desk upon checkout and, again, it seemed like they couldn't care less. My husband also informed them that our room's door did not fully shut unless it was pushed or pulled hard. We noticed multiple doors that were not fully shut (so anyone could have just opened them) on our floor as we walked to and from the stairs in the evening, as well as morning. Again, it was brushed off. These concerns, along with the general lack of maintenance and upkeep throughout the entire building are the reason I will never stay at this Double Tree again, and hesitate to book another stay with Double Tree in the future.

First, the good: The guy who checked us in a reception was friendly and helpful. We were offered free cookies. The location is great, easy access from the freeway and within walking distance of a TON of things. The room was quiet and the bed was comfortable. There's a small-ish pool that seems popular with the kids. It's a Doubletree, so you expect more. You just don't get that "extra" here. The refrigerator has a two-hour timer -- who does that? There's no microwave in the room: When I called to ask about it, the guy at the front desk, clearly irritated, suggested, "I can give you the number for the fire marshal so you can ask him about it!" He offered the lobby microwave, which was filthy and barely functional. But worst of all, they've added onto the building, so the wall-length picture window (which appears never to have been cleaned) looks out onto... another wall. For the price, the room was ok. For the quality and service, I should have stuck with a budget brand.

This was our second time to visit the university and had decided to stay here as a loyal Hilton member. Thought after the first horrible stay they would have improved. No way! Even worse! As always no double tree cookies, they are always out! But not important ! Staff is usually lost at the front desk, coupled with a terrible pool which is not again important. Rooms are a disaster! Bathroom not clean, phone dead.. shower filthy and black marks on the floor, no Shampoo!! Are they serious? Toilet paper roll on the floor and toilet paper holder broken and loose! What's going on with this hotel? Any management ? Is this the new Hilton service and brand? Never again.

Massive rip in duvet, hand for reference

Now I know what all the hype is about with those cookies - they were tasty for sure! However, I'm pretty disappointed with this specific location. It looks great when you first enter; newly renovated, huge pool and lounge area (pool was even open despite the pandemic!), and plenty of social distanced seating, sanitizing stations, and guide markers. However, once you get in the elevator, that shine disappears quick. The elevator was dated, and had a pair of shorts front and center on the floor. Then we got to our room. We stayed here while driving to Florida for relocation during the pandemic, and the cleanliness of this hotel room we stayed in was not up to par for even pre-Covid standards. I found hairs in one of the beds, a bottle cap under a nightstand, a used shampoo bottle in the bathroom, and had an extremely ripped duvet (see image). Extremely disappointed with cleaning standards, and concerned about what Covid cleaning measures they're actually following through with if this is how they're leaving rooms.

Unfortunately the other negative reviews were accurate. We stayed in room 321 over the weekend and it was filthy. Thankfully I had some disinfectant wipes on me to clean the surfaces. There was stuff splattered on the counters, walls, lamps, etc. Pretty gross. There was a huge splatter of something red over one of the beds. There were layers of dust in some areas as well. The room looked worn down and beat up. Just walking down the hall on the third floor gave you the impression that the hotel was worn down too because all of the doors looked really beat up. One door even had big chunks missing from the bottom of it. I've stayed at Doubletrees all over the world, and this hotel did not meet the standard I would expect for a Doubletree. The bathroom was small, but functional. The beds were comfortable. The room had dark grey walls and furniture though which did make the room seem pretty dark and dreary.

Nice looking property with huge indoor pool as well as outdoor pool. Warm and friendly staff greeted us when we arrived. Our room was ok but is looking tired. It was a bit off-putting to walk in with the tv on.... especially because our room was at the end of the hall, but quickly realized that it had been turned on to welcome us. We did have a strobing light at the door...quickly turned it off. Over all ok, but not as high standard as I expected from Doubletree.

Beats me how or why anyone would this place a bad review! The room was insane! Super spacious and clean. The bathroom was gorgeous, and it was extremely affordable. Aside from the very impressive room, the staff was sweet and went above and beyond for us! I was very impressed by the service! The only two cons I had were 1) the pillows were kind of horrible and 2) the coffee maker was terrible, which is definitely a 1st world problem and VERY minor. Overall I'd stay here again, especially for the value!

    Hair throughout bathroom floor.

This was a disaster from beginning to end - definitely not what we have experienced at Marriott…read moreproperties. Check-in was done online but despite arriving at 9:00 pm we were not assigned a room online. We went to the front desk and were given our room and physical keys. We got to our room and it was VERY warm inside. I immediately went to the wall thermostat and it had a black screen and was clearly not connected. I went to the unit attached to the wall/window and it was set to 70° and it was not 70° in the room. We called the desk and they said they would call maintenance, which they did. He arrived about an hour later and noted it clearly was not cooling. He began to look at the unit and noticed it was on 'fan' and not 'cool'. He had no idea why it was on fan. Fortunately it began to cool. I asked about the wall unit thermostat control and he said that as they began to fail in rooms they were disconnected. Not good. While we were waiting for maintenance the front desk clerk said they were adding 10,000 points to my rewards which I appreciated. When we finally got ready for bed, the pillows were the flimsiest pillows I have ever seen in a Marriott property and we asked for 'real' pillows, which the staff brought up. The pillows they brought up were what the room pillows should have been like. On Saturday we took showers and were shocked that the towels were almost see through with worn tears and rips in them. Again, not consistent with Marriott standards. We were gone for the day and when we got back that night we jumped on the elevator with two other folks before the doors closed - then we all realized - the doors wouldn't close. I went to the front desk to tell the clerk and she said 'yeah, we know' and then went back to using her phone. I asked if they were going to put a sign on it and was told 'we'll get to it'. I told the other guests the response and they were not happy either. We got back to our room and couldn't use any streaming devices because the tv said 'unable to connect to the internet'. We called the front desk and they said they would have someone look at it the next day. We were gone all day on Sunday and when we returned housekeeping had serviced our room which was great - no issues there. The streaming worked fine on the tv so we presumed it was corrected. We were gone most of the day on Monday. When we returned the tv was back to the 'unable to connect to the internet' again. As on Saturday night we couldn't log in to our Netflix, Prime or Pandora accounts - couldn't even get to those screens. We again called the front desk and were again told that someone would check it out the next day and were told they were adding another 10,000 points which was appreciated but it was becoming clear the property had problems and the answer was adding points. A mixed 'solution' We got up Tuesday and I had a folio in my email in-box which surprised me because when I originally booked the reservation on-line it did erroneously (probably my error) indicate a checkout of Tuesday. When I got the email confirmation on March 17, 2025 at 9:17 am I reached out to Marriott and they said I could contact the property directly, which I did on March 17, 2025 at 10:30 am (CST). When I contacted the front desk, I was told they were sold out and we'd have to move to a different room with double beds. I asked to talk to the GM and Franita Tanner (the GM) said that was the case. When I explained what happened on the reservation, she said 'it looks like you booked online' - no kidding - I had just explained all that to her - it was as though she wasn't listening. She confirmed that we would have to move rooms if we wanted to stay. I told her we'd had problems and she said 'I see that' and then went on to essentially say that we were the only guests who had any problems; that the reservation, internet, room AC, pillows, towels, etc. were our issues and nobody else had issues. Wow! I asked her if this property had been given a Marriott waiver from having to 'refresh' their rooms because they were clearly not up to Marriott requirements - she said 'no' Ultimately we opted to stay at another hotel for Tuesday night. Aside from the clerk on her phone and the GM, the staff were all helpful, friendly and polite. The rooms were clearly old - the furnishings were mish-mashed; the only outlets by the bed were one electrical outlet in the lamp on each nightstand - there were no USB chargers anywhere. The pillows, as discussed, needed to be changed out a long time ago. The towels were clearly over-used and should have been replaced. Not sure what the deal is with the internet. We would definitely not return to this property. But for some of the great staff, this would have been a '1-Star' review.

They have a small heated indoor pool and a gym with free weights and a few ellipticals and treadmills. We were happy to find a Starbucks only three minutes away for morning coffee. We haven't seen the downtown yet but heard it is cute and walkable, only ten minutes away. I'd love to come back and hike Shenandoah National Park which is only a twenty minute drive. It was very clean and the water pressure in the shower was 10/10. Would recommend!
