You book an appointment with a certain provider and then you get a reminder of an appointment with someone completely different with no notification of the change.

Dr. Schaeffer is a pediatric pulmonologist and provides quality care for young asthmatics that far exceeds most specialty care in this area and even his home office in Jacksonville. Dr. Schaeffer takes his time and answers any questions you might have and gives the next steps to improve breathing moving forward. I think this office forgets about their obligation to health first. I'm from California. I have received care from Cedars Sinai and doctors in Beverly Hills . This is added fee for a phone call is distasteful and comes off as arrogant. Another mother had warned me that they felt this practice thought too highly of themselves and forgot about the nobility of their profession: to care for children. Unfortunately, I share that perspective now. Skip. I have found other pediatricians within the area that seem to have their footing firmly placed on providing genuine care for our children. After receiving 3 vaccines in one visit the next day felt sore and just not himself therefore I asked if they could please provide me with a school excuse note. It is discretionary not something we have ever asked before and being such the decision is up to the Doctor and nurse and the answer was simply 'No we can't do that' -no explanation or rational. I could see if this was a habitual request but patients are individuals - this is not a case if we do it for one we have to do it for all as it is their decision and if it is something they can do when they want to at their discretion then it would have taken nothing to provide one. I have no desire to return to this pediatric clinic and I only hope they receive such care and kindness for their families. There is no care in healthcare it is a nasty self-serving business and I am so thankful we are a healthy family because I would never want to put my well being in the hands of such nasty individuals. The issue I have is that they refuse to authorize my pharmacy to a refill of a prescription for a low dose statin that their Dr. prescribed (for a one year term refilled every 90 days) without seeing me and getting new labs - In other words, they want me to pay for an appointment and new labs that my insurance will only cover once per year....because their employee left. But they have the labs, which is what providers use to determine whether the prescription is warranted. Statins are literally the most prescribed medication in the US and they have all the evidence to validate a simple refill but are trying to force me to pay a significant out of pocket expense to get it.

We saw the nurse practitioner, Tori, during our most recent visit and she too was excellent. Also took her time with us answering all our questions. What I really appreciated was the fact that we received a call to let us know Dr. Hugger was running late and we could either schedule a later time that morning or see the NP. I appreciated the transparent courtesy call instead of having us arrive and wait or telling us once we'd made the drive out there.
