I'm pleased to see the North Shore catching up with a bit of coffee scene - my impression so far is that (with the exception of a few places around Crows Nest) you have to cross the bridge to get a really good coffee. However a recent plug in the SMH suggested this place, so I thought I would head over and check it out. I'm obviously not the first person to discover it (did the SMH review give that away?), but I was surprised to see I am apparently the first yelper (although the urbanspoon crowd seem to have discovered this in droves!).
So, first of all, the coffee:
Coffee: Double macchiato
Bean: Not sure, I believe they do their own custom blends and single origins
Crema: Nice, thick. 7/10
Overall Taste: Unusual taste, slightly sweet 7.5/10
Served in: Small espresso cup (+1)
Preparation: Reasonably well made, nice amount of milk, a little bubbly
The cafe itself is a nice place to chill out, small tables and communal benches can be found inside and out, the cafe itself has large open doors / windows so the entire area has a nice buzz to it. I love the vibe created by the exposed brickwork and funky artwork, the twisting copper pipe for the water tap is a nice touch. On a sunny day it would be a great place to chill... I didn't check if they had wifi, but if they did it would be a great place to come and work for a few hours.
The menu seemed quite reasonable, I didn't order anything, but the muffins and snacks at the counter looked about what I would expect from a place like this. read more
