    Shrimp curry

My overall experience was pretty good. Service was quick and nice. The restaurant could definitely use some TLC when it comes to appearances. They actually had half the lights off inside so I wasn't even sure if they were open. Our appetizer was a bit strange. The pictures of both the onion Bhajia and Veg Somasa didn't look like what our appetizer looked like. I honestly couldn't tell you what I ate but it tasted good! I've never had Biryani before but I'm glad I tried it. It was so good with the Raita. You can't see in the picture, but the hard boiled eggs are actually under the rice. My husband got the shrimp curry. It was a bit on the sweet side and had a small kick of spice to it. I thought it was tasty. Overall, the food was really good but the appearance of the place just threw it off.

Salt and pepper on the table definitely not needed! Why was I the only person in here at 12:30? Nice clean restaurant with a quiet atmosphere. Kind of surprised they didn't have Indian music but the owners phone was playing something in the background. All of the food was super flavorful and lots of colors and that's why I love Indian food. Everything had it's own distinct flavors and the buffet was fresh and clean. This place is a no nonsense Indian restaurant, not more than is expected but no less either. All of the 20 or so items were distinctive on their own so no flavors overlapped and you could tell they didn't spare any expense to feed me alone. By the end of the meal they had 5 other tables. The chicken tandoori was seasoned perfectly and for a buffet it was moist and tender. The spicy tomato and vegetable soup were both very flavorful and the vegetables were not over cooked. I will leave everything else unnamed because I just don't know Indian food enough to call it out, but it as all good. Oh and I asked for a cup of coffee and he made me a fresh cup. I would definitely recommend you trying this place out and for the price it's a great meal.

Best Indian food we've had in Chattanooga. Flavorful sauces, rich and layered with spice and cream. Puffy Naan with crispy edges and fresh chunks of garlic. Vegetables were FRESH, distinctly not frozen, and prepared with thick cuts that held sauce perfectly. Paneer was salty and had a nice bite. The Makhani sauce was the best I've ever had, anywhere, in the US. Tandoori was the low point - it was very dry and bland. Service is on the "slow" side for those used to prepared food being reheated. Be patient and you are rewarded with fresh homemade and screaming hot food. It's fair enough to note that the tables and chairs were distinctly uncomfortable, obviously very cheap. Since this is a meal to be savored over an hour or so - more comfortable seating would be appreciated.

They have upgraded the interior design and atmosphere. The soups are very good and I like the variety of vegetarian options.

Thankfully, the restaurant has been spruced up a bit with a new floor, ceiling, and some new tables. It's lighter and airier and certainly looks less dingy. The rolling cabinets housing the buffet chafing trays are fewer and smaller, so there are fewer items offered than what was customary for Dosa Hut's extensive buffet. I was a big fan of Dosa Hut and am happy to report that most, if not all, of the old menu items are still there, and a few new ones have been added. I see bhel puri, pani puri, samosa chaat, and several different biryani preparations among them, but I haven't sampled them yet. The emphasis is still on South Indian fare, so expect dosas, idli, and sambar. I don't know dosas from shinola and have hardly ever had them elsewhere, so I'm no expert, but I love the plain dosas I get there. They're huge, and paired with the accompanying coconut chutney and small bowl of sambar, it's a massive appetizer that often doesn't leave room for much else. My favorite dish is shrimp biryani. I tend to order it at every Indian restaurant I go to for comparison's sake. It's moist, spicy, delectable, and full of good-sized shrimp. I've never had better in the dozen or so Indian restaurants I've visited in the Southeast. Like its predecessor, I think Taj particularly excels in their vegetarian offerings, especially those with shredded paneer. So methi malai matar and paneer bhurji are our go-tos. We're also really fond of the kaju khoya. All three dishes are delightfully creamy, and we eat them over rice. I can't say I'm a fan of their saag dishes. They puree the spinach, and I'm not a fan of the texture, but from my reading, it's commonly prepared that way, so to each their own. I've been to their buffet once, but it was near the end of their lunch session, so I wasn't surprised that the offerings were getting a little old. Not going to hold that against them. Service is very attentive. For what it's worth, soft drinks are served in cans with a glass and ice, and there are at least a few bottled beers available. All in all, a great little place with a revamped menu and interior well worth checking out.

There's two sections: one for vegetarian food and non-vegetarian food. And having both options for buffet is such a steal. The food is delicious, the lunch special has a good deal, and the lunch buffet is my favorite. There's many tables inside to choose from, and there are larger tables by the front for large parties. And regardless of the buffet, their standalone entrees are great as well. I've ordered Chicken Tikka Masala with Garlic Butter Naan to go (not pictured) and I have no complaints for their Chicken Tikka Masala, just that I wish I had more haha. It's savory, creamy, and very flavorful. There's a good amount of chicken pieces in the entree, and the Garlic Butter Naan is just phenomenal. The entree size is plentiful and I was very surprised at how fast pick-up was. From the time I ordered, it was done in about 20 minutes. The family working there is very friendly and helpful. I love all my interactions with them, they're nice. I'll be back again and again, I'm glad this place is my neighborhood "go-to" restaurant. p.s. Forgot to mention their Butter Chicken and cauliflower(?) curry during their buffet. Everything really is a hit for me, but those were very memorable and so good.

The customer service was very slow. The restaurant was completely empty when we arrived but the person at the front desk completely ignored us for about 5 minutes slowly walking back and forth to the kitchen and then placing mango lassi in the fridge. Finally she came to greet us (she seemed a bit bothered and wasn't the friendliest person), bring waters and take our order. We ordered papadam (we thought it will be brought out first as an appetizer as usually) few dishes to share and drinks. We had to wait long time (at least 15-20 minutes), then I asked if it's possible to get our drinks before the food comes, as it seemed like they forgot about them (it's just a glass of wine!) Finally the food came almost at the same time with drinks, and then we got papadam later. Papadam comes plain - no sauces on the side, as in most other Indian restaurants. Just a note, to take that in mind. Maybe have to order separate. But... Food was very flavourful! We did not like the chicken kebab - it was just looking odd and tasted weird. We were also told it's all white meat but it was definitely a mix. We asked about it, but the employee just shrugged her shoulders and said should be white meat and left. She was very much in "uninterested, I don't care" mood. We thought she went to kitchen to ask and will come back but she didn't. Chana Masala was WAY too salty but flavourful. Butter Chicken was the only dish I really liked. It was very flavourful and I liked the cinnamon touch in it (also Chana Masala had that nice cinnamon touch, if it wasn't for that salt!). So Butter Chicken was amazing, I would highly recommend it. Also, beware there is no air conditioning in this restaurant. It was 93F outside so we definitely wished for some air conditioner.
