Ducktrap Kayak has a really sparse website, but don't let that fool you--they know what they're doing. Rental prices are very reasonable, and they will either help you strap the kayaks to your car or pick you up and drop you off at your convenience. The guy we spoke with was super knowledgable and suggested we kayak around Lake Megunticook (rather than in the ocean), which ended up being a fabulous choice. Even in early June, the water was warm enough to swim in, and there are several 'islands' where you can dock your kayak and stop for a bite to eat or a swim. We started early, so it felt like we had the lake to ourselves! Before he pushed us off, the owner gave us a rundown of how to work the kayaks and some tips for having a great trip. My wife and I decided to go with him because he was a lot more flexible than his competitors, Old Quarry. First of all, Peter basically catered the tour to our needs. Second of all, his prices were worth the small group attention. Third, Old Quarry has a terrible website and Peter's is great. We have both kayaked before, so we wanted something half-day that would provide a short intro and then get us into some small coves. What we got was wonderful. First, Peter went over sea kayaking safety and the game plan (To be honest, this part needs to be shortened up, but I think that will happen organically as the season progresses). Then, we took the boats down and put into the water at Naskeag Point. We kayaked around and went to Sellers Island for lunch. Peter told us all about the islands and about this cool kayak trail they have where you can camp for free on these small islands. We wandered some more after lunch and started heading back. We asked Peter about his experiences on El Camino - he has some amazing stories! When we got back to his house, he let us shower and stuff before heading to our B&B up the road for dinner. You can book rooms at the house and we would have done this if we'd known about it before we booked our other accommodations. It was really a lovely trip, and we hope to pass through again someday.

He did a wonderful job tailoring our experience so that it was the right level for our kids, but was still an exciting adventure for all of us. Penobscot Bay is probably one of the nicest, most beautiful places to sea kayak I can imagine. I am not an expert, but his equipment was top notch, which made the paddling easy and our experience more comfortable. I had been worried that our younger son would lose steam, and he was usually out ahead! I can't recommend Peter enough and we hope we are lucky enough to do another trip with him at some point.

The Harbor They Fall…read more 1.6-mile out-and-back trail that outline the City of Belfast's picturesque harbor. The Good: *Very easy flat trail that's good for everyone, even kids. *Dog-friendly *Free! *Restrooms (see trail map for locations) *Adjacent to lots of food and shopping, if that's your jam. *You can connect to the Belfast Rail Trail to make it an even longer walk. *Picturesque views of the harbor, bay, and a working shipyard The Meh: *The trail is almost too easy and flat. You'll get your steps but not your cardio. The Ugly: *Parking can be a bit difficult during certain days and seasons, but not impossible. Conclusion: Fantastic trail with great views and a must-see if you're visiting Belfast, Maine.

You can find the Belfast Harbor Walk at Front St, Belfast, ME 04915 - it basically extends from the…read moreBelfast Armistice Bridge along the shoreline to Heritage Park in the East. There's a small lot where you can park right at the Bridge, which allows for foot traffic across the Passagassawakeag River. If you park at that end, there's a portapotty conveniently located by the lot. We parked, crossed the river to get in sights of the river, then moved to the West across the Belfast Rail Trail - you're rewarded at the end with a small station, caboose and a car or two before turning around. Returning and going the other direction takes you into Belfast where you can experience a small New England town that's been there pretty much longer than the US has been around - the area is hilly which makes for some neat adjustments to the architecture - along Belfast Harbor are massive boat lifts and boats/ships of all sizes that are being worked on by the local marine establishments - this is an active harbor with lots to see, a local brewery or two and stuff you wouldn't normally experience as landlubbers. The whole like totaled up to around 6 miles with the Rail Trail, bridge, visit to the town plus a lookaround. Neat place.

Even when you first meet her it's like visiting an old friend. My husband and I came last year in October and stayed here for an anniversary trip. The campsites were spacious and private and the trees large and beautiful. The outdoor showers were his favorite part. Everything is clean and tidy. This year we came back in the summer with our kids. It's really just a great place and we can't wait to go back next year
