Being closer to the water and really feeling the movement of the boat gave that authentic sailing experience. The only reason I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 is the lack of narration from the crew/captain. I was expected more of a guided tour with information about the harbor, wildlife, sailing, or Maine's history (since this is how it was marketed). Instead the tour was mostly silent apart from passengers talking amongst themselves. Adding in this commentary would make it feel more like a tour rather than just a boat ride.

The boat felt like it could be a minimum of 8 passengers, so we really appreciated that Captain Patrick choses to keep the groups small for a better experience overall. Captain Patrick was clearly an expert sailor. It was a big boat to sail as one person! During the cruise, we saw beautiful views, and Captain explained the history of the different islands we passed. The atmosphere was so calm and lovely, but I have a feeling Captain Patrick will adapt to whatever vibe your group would enjoy. Captain Patrick was also an expert animal spotter. He quickly pointed out a seal, porpus, and even a bald eagle who flew right into the sunset for a majestic picture! We brought drinks and snacks on the ship because we were out there for 3 hours. Bring a sweatshirt too--it can get cold on the water. This experience is highly recommended. Enjoy!

It was such a good time all around. I tend to get easy motion sickness and it was super easy ride. We sat in the back near the wheel with Gus. He was so informative and so nice. This one caught our eye because it was a smaller vessel with only 4-6 passengers and it was made out of fiberglass. The salesperson was very nice and sold us on this boat. The captain was nice, but probably not the best tour guide although the gave us interesting tidbits of information particularly regarding the lobster industry. It was a beautiful day for sailing and I really enjoyed. I did like that there were only six passengers and one crew plus the captain. Definitely would recommend this schooner!

There is a bathroom onboard and you can even get your Lighthouse passport stamped! I would highly recommend taking any of Camden Harbor Cruises.

What was a bit ironic for us was we generally wish those leading these types of experiences would talk a little less, but this crew didn't tell us anything about the boat (other than it was 100+ yrs old), they didn't point out anything on the sail, or offer anything, interesting or not (except their opinions of other boats and their crew). They did say to ask them whatever questions we had because they haven't learned to read minds yet, so I did and was met with a bit on a condescending tone by Captain Chris. Just unnecessary. Overall, it was fine but it was little more than a 2hr round trip experience: relaxing and beautiful, and one-and-done.

The beautiful islands he took us to, his lively, humourous local and historical commentary along the way, his willingness to fine tune the experience based upon our own specific interest made our trip absolutely fantastic. We were staying in the area and wanted to do some activities unique to Maine and booked a sea kayak…read moretour. We've kayaked in Florida and MN a few times but this was the first time in open sea. Our guide was fantastic. She provided instruction and the necessary safety info accurately and got us on our way quickly. We kayaked around one of the porcupine islands. We had to watch for large boats through the main channels. One side of the island provided choppy paddling conditions which was 'fun' and unique. The other side of the island was much calmer and relaxed. Our guide provided interesting tidbits of info about the island as we progressed. I kind of wished we would have had a few designated photo ops areas. I didn't really feel like I could take my time to get my camera out as I needed to keep up or didn't want to miss what she was saying. As a result, no one in our group really took any pics. The kayaks were in good condition. We wore splash suits to minimize getting wet. If you are tall, the kayaks will likely be a bit uncomfortable for you (hard to adjust the foot rests). Nice morning on the water.
