Tech cleaning up the oil spill from my car.
Taylor H.

TLDR: poor customer service and damaged my vehicle during routine maintenance. Against literally everyone's advice I bought the 2014 Nissan Pathfinder privately. Well today I took it in for an oil change, and coolant flush at the Nissan Dealership. (last week I'd dropped it off with a work ticket for checking A/C, checking check engine light code p0420, oil change, coolant flush, and state inspection- none of which were done.) However during the initial visit $3500.00 worth of work (I did not request, or need) were done as the original owner stated to complete any needed work before the sale of the vehicle to me. Somehow today after the coolant flush and oil change were done, no one noticed that the car were leaking oil- that trail pictured is engine oil which begins at the service exit and runs to where my vehicle were parked in spot 146. Apparently the oil filter had a double gasket which led the car to lose more than 3 quarts of oil. Prior to this, the tech did an oil pan replacement but did not complete an oil change. I called the dealership to report a smoking engine after leaving, it were 10-15 minutes before the Nissan Dealership called me back and told me to return to the dealership, without telling me my car is pouring out oil. They also didn't notice during my initial visit, a 100 point check up before purchasing the car (for the check engine light) before purchase, that I do infact need an 02 censor and catalytic converter ($2200.00) but were sympathetic today while telling me that the code I announced during my call, p0420 infact meant I needed exactly what my mechanic and I thought I'd needed. They hapially did $3500.00 worth of repairs outside of these requests I made, which weren't needed and didn't include the cat I'd origionally inquired about. Nissan says the vehicle is safe to drive and no damages have been done. Nissan is not offering any compensation for additional repairs needed and is taking no responsibility for potential engine seize due to engine running with less than half the needed oil. What should have been a 1 hour appointment turned into a 4 hour appointment. I've been advised a "complementary oil change were given" and to drive it for 3 days and return on Thursday 9/28/23 for a look over before I leave on a trip to the North Country to visit my boyfriend, 8 hours + round trip. I've expressed my concern Nissans "repairs and services" have damaged my vehicle. I am so unhappy with my service. I am concerned with the integrity of the vehicle after it ran with less than half of the oil that the vehicle requires and Nissan won't do ANYTHING about this. Now I have a registered vehicle that has a potentially damaged engine, and needs a catalytic converter before it can pass NYS Inspection. When asked if I could be given a discount for my trouble, potential damages to the engined and time, I were told that $50.00 could be taken off of the total bill. I am not happy with the tech Frank Gallagher (who worked on my vehicle the first time when all requested repairs weren't completed, yet $3500.00 worth of other repairs were (parts and labor) and today when the oil filter were not installed properly resulting in the loss of 2/3 of the engine oil) or the representative I worked with Tyler Wize. Neither were helpful and I am uncomfortable to know I have an appointment to check over my vehicle with them both on Thursday even though I specifically requested I not be with the tech.

Ahhhhh BUT they got me in both times without giving me a hard time. I bought my last car here and will go nowhere else, these guys are great!! Silly me. They have a new waiting area and it's beautiful. They also have snacks!! And coffee... or hot chocolate... or tea. They have vending if these don't float your boat. For snacks they have fruit, granola bars and fruit snacks! Mmmmm. Makes waiting less painful. I had my car interior detailed here and was a little disappointed because it didn't have that clean feeling when I got it back. The air freshner they put in it was strange and there was no shine or gloss. For almost 90 bucks, I want more. I want to see and feel like it got cleaned and I didn't get that. The other problem was I asked for a loaner for the day.... I got one but they wanted me to pay for it. Excuse Me? I spend enough money here and they shouldn't be charging for a loaner. However, those were the only 2 hiccups I've had. I will continue to come here for service because it's fair and they're professional, I just won't be getting it cleaned here anymore.

From Bob and Elvis in the sales department, to Steve and Savannah in the service department, and even to Chuck in the collision shop out back - they know how to treat their customers right. I bought two cars from them and I get them serviced at the dealer. I know some people think that's crazy but they actually work out to be less money and better service and they certainly know my car inside and out. And just today I went in with a question about a small scratch and mark on the fender of my car and Chuck in the body shop took 15 minutes out of his day to make it right. Right on the spot. That's what I call Service! I highly recommend Hondas and I highly recommend getting one from Ralph Honda.

The car buying experience was a bit of a mixed bag…read more The good: The saleman was very curtious and easy to talk to. The dealership was clean and seemed like an efficient operation. The price I paid was fair. I didn't get a good price for my trade but that's because the resale value of used EV's is awful right now. Most of the transaction was performed via email and text messages, this didn't seem to be an issue. The not so good: When I tried to correspond, replys to my messages were very slow and the responses were sometimes vague. I made an appointment to close the deal and ended up waiting for over an hour to talk to the salesman, I was on a tight timetable and had a long drive to dealership. The final part of the transaction was rushed as they were closing. One of the financial guys came up to me after all the paperwork was filled out and said they needed an extra $500. This is the third time a dealer has tried to squeeze another $500 out at the last minute.

Well guess what? NOT - when I asked about it and showed my evidence to the service clerk, he got his manager. NOT HAPPY with the service manager's response. The manager proceeds to explain to me the tech thought the tires were fine and due to low mileage, he did not rotate them. BUT they were going to charge me for it! Manager then says that the service clerk was not aware that the tech did not rotate the tires and "its free anyway". So, I guess their lack of communication is on me. I checked the oil at home and it was new, but I am questioning if the oil filter was changed. I don't trust Bob Johnson Chevrolet at this point. Our household has purchased seven vehicles from them in the last 20 years and has had any major service done there. This would have been a perfect teaching opportunity for them to address the lack of communication between the service desk and tech group and allowing the customer to decide if the tires should be rotated. I was not looking for a heartfelt apology. An acknowledgement of less-than satisfactory service would have been appreciated. How about offering another free oil ($79.99) change and tire rotation ($29.99).
