This is a long story but necessary to tell. I hope that reading this for you will help you understand even an ounce of the pain and time we were put through only to be denied a place we were told, by the landlords, we could have. Dealing with Renee was an absolutely traumatizing nightmare. My partner and I were in a huge, violent situation where we had to move immediately so I posted an ad that had the following information: - Location - Budget - Credit Situation - Pets (w/ pictures of pets) She reached out to me and told me she had a place within 20 blocks of where I was living! We were ecstatic but had just been scammed by someone and were slightly hesitant, which I told her as well. When we spoke, she asked me if I was living paycheck to paycheck or had money saved and I told her, verbatim, that I had "enough saved for one month's rent and one month's security" to which she AGREED. My partner went to see the place. I was so excited that I might finally be getting out of my unsafe situation. When my partner got there, she showed her the place, when she asked how much would have to be paid upfront, Renee told her one month's rent, one month's security, and an additional BROKER FEE. Immediately, my partner lost all hope, telling her the story about our situation, to which she responded by rushing her through and out of the apartment. Later I called, upset but desperate enough to BEG her during work for an opportunity to discuss the monetary situation with the landlords. The landlords were absolutely wonderful. After seeing (and falling in love with) the place, they spoke to us honestly and told us paperwork, credit reports, and the like did not matter as much as we, as people, did. We were honest and upfront about everything, but then came the second inconvenience. Renee hadn't told the landlords about our money situation, the fact that she had purposely withheld the broker fee information from us, and the fact that we were desperate for an opportunity for a payment plan or understanding regarding the situation. We still moved forward with the conversation, and the landlords told us (again, verbatim), "If you want it, it's yours." Renee, who had been staring at her phone the entire time we'd been there, interrupted us all to say she had to do paperwork first, but only for due diligence. She wanted an application, a credit check from credit karma, proof of my job, pictures of my pets (which I had already sent to her) and more. This was normal for any application for an apartment, so we agreed and sent it to her the same night, maybe a few hours later. An email from her office asked us for a bunch of details regarding my credit which was explicitly detailed in the credit report I had sent. Eager to just move forward, I sent all of the information again just in case. I had let them know that the job I worked for was closing but that they would be placing me somewhere else with no pay cut if I didn't place myself before the end of the summer. They needed this in writing from HR. I worked my butt off trying to get the paperwork, desperately emailing and calling and making meetings with everyone I could in order to get a letter stating the same information that I had told them. Finally, someone got the paperwork for me. I sent it to Renee and her office. And AT THIS POINT, the office secretary (or whatever) let us know that we would be able to get the ball rolling on signing a lease. They now requested from us additional money (a good guy clause, if you've ever heard of it, I had not) over a few months. This was money we didn't have. They also demanded an additional background check that she told me we would not need. I didn't mind, as long as it secured our place, but they didn't tell me that that too would cost money we didn't have. For the broker fee, we had to borrow money from a family member, which she knew. She told us it was not a good look that we couldn't afford the additional $$. My partner told her upfront that if they couldn't accept what we had already agreed to, it would be best that we all moved on and we would continue looking. Somehow, she "convinced" the landlords to overlook the whole idea of the good guy clause. Which sounded fishy. We tried to get a meeting where we could all talk and decide what the best next steps would be. She decided that she had to stand between us, her words. Over the phone, Renee lied and accused me of misunderstanding her the entire time. She had obviously lost track of her lies. The next day she spoke to me, not wanting to speak to my partner at all. She told me that I had lied to her, that there were things she knew that she could not disclose, that the owners no longer wanted to rent to us. She told us that the conversation the night before had shown that our relationship with the landlords could likely turn sour. What a horrible company and horrible person. Do not use Renee. Save yourself the money, time and trouble. read more

I'm sorry but I would not use again. Too many inconsistencies and I'm just not a fan of how she conducts herself business-wise. As a potential renter, I don't want to be told I, for sure, have the apartment while a broker continues to show it to other people at the same time I'm supposed to be signing a lease and getting my keys. Getting in touch with her was difficult at times and she doesn't seem to be very organized, despite having a secretary. I'm just glad the nightmare of working with her is over. My wife and I were moving back to Brooklyn from Staten Island and were only focused on living in Bay Ridge in a specific part of the neighborhood. We had the pleasure of working with Carmela who went above and beyond and could not have been nicer through the whole process. In addition to only wanting a specific part of Bay Ridge we also wanted an apartment with 2 bathrooms and they aren't that easy to find. Carmela found us a great apartment exactly where we wanted to be within our budget. Everything went super smooth and there was great communication from beginning to end and she even followed up with us after we had moved in to make sure we were still happy and the items needing attention during the walkthrough with her were taken care of. Highly recommend Renee. As a first-time buyer, I had limited knowledge of the co-op buying procedure. In fact, I didn't even know anyone who'd bought a co-op before, so I had no friend who could offer counsel. This is a vulnerable position to be in, and it was all too easy to feel apprehensive about being "taken for a ride", or in another imagined bad scenario, in the hands of someone who was inept. I knew I would need the help of a very good, honest realtor. I had met Renee at an open house for an apartment really out of my range, but having been impressed with her professionalism and the time she took to explain things to me, I decided to contact her when I finally wished to move forward in the process. She directed me to others I needed in the process (mortgage broker, insurance agent), all of whom she'd worked with before so that I had a sense of a competent, cohesive team working on my behalf. Renee is very thorough, and made sure we put together a set of documents that would get positive results from a co-op board.Any time we encountered a snag, she assured me she was "on it", and she was. I received almost daily calls and/or emails apprising me of the status as we moved along. She has many years' experience in her field, and it was evident, as no situation seemed to faze her--she'd seen it and solved it before. I had a sense she was in control of the situation, a great reassurance to me. Besides all this, she is personable and warm, important qualities when you have to work as closely as we did over a period of some months. The process ended up being very complicated (we had issues with the coop's management company and board that slowed things down), but Renee managed to continually move things along from the time of the contract through to the closing. Rude doesn't even begin to cover the treatment I received this weekend from Dorsa Realty. They were conducting an open house in our apartment building. I decided to stop in briefly in order to get an idea of how they were conducting business and to consider buying a second unit in my Mom's building. I had the intention of doing a quick 2 minute walk through and asking the Realtor for his card, nothing more. Rather than welcome me to the open house, introduce himself and offer me his card... an agent from Dorsa chose to behave like an intimidating bouncer from a night club in the 80's. Wiithin 10 seconds of walking through the door. A large man over 6'2" in a tailored suit approached me and said "you need to sign in, I can't allow you to be here unless you sign in". I replied "No, thank you... I just came in for a brief minute". I refused to sign in simply because; I don't want unsolicited sales calls or to be on more mailing lists. If I chose to do business with Dorsa it wouldn't be because they call me every week or send me flyers in the mail. it would be because they impressed me with staging, friendless, professionalism and sales technique. This Agent then proceeded to then throw me out of the apartment by standing in front of me and using clearly threatening body language. "You need to leave sir, you can't be here" was the last thing he said as he showed me the door. It created a loud, embarrassing unprofessional display and I will not be using Dorsa Realty Group for any of my future business and I will recommend the same to my neighbors. read more

These agents must be very wealthy, like many other agents with other brokerage agencies. IF they call back (big IF) it's usually a week later, sometimes as much as 2 weeks later. By then the property, whether buying or renting, is gone. You decide, are they wealthy, input or lazy. My vote is inept and lazy. read more

Our friends strongly advised that we find a reputable experienced broker to have on our side. I don't remember how we came across Renee Dorsa and the Dorsa Group but we never regret a minute after meeting with her and her Realty team. We couldn't find any reviews on the Dorsa Realty Group at first, but found that Renee was a very active community and commerce member, born and raised in the area, and had experience with a number of real estate agency's yet started her own partnership group. Our first meeting with her was a walk-in. It was casual, personable, and very informative. There was no hint of frustration to our ignorance at the time, and she explained her team's services with clarity. We had walked in to a couple of places in the past and felt a little uncomfortable afterwards, but not with Dorsa Group. We went with Renee and her team to buy our first home. Renee was in constant contact with us. She had open lines through herself or assistants and educated us every step of the way. She offered us resources to custom pick everyone from our attorney to our home inspector. We were surprised at how connected she was to the community and felt in good hands with her recommendations because they also knew Renee and her reputation very well. There were a few speed bumps in the contract developing which she was able to smooth out with her influence alone, and her team was awesome about getting those behind the scene things done while she was with other clients.
