Had a great experience buying from these folks while in Steuben. Ordered a few shedders (lobsters that have recently shed their shell and the new one is hardening) and steamed them. They were tender and sweet. Called ahead and picked up later in the afternoon. The will also overnight them to you as well through their website. As you head North on Route 1, right before Milbridge, turn right onto Pidgeon Hill Rd. Turn left onto Joe Leighton Rd, and it is almost 2 miles off of Pidgeon Hill Rd . Read another review to call before coming. No one picked up both times we called so we decided to take the drive out. This was during supposed open hours but when we arrived there was no one anywhere around to greet us. Honestly a waste of time for them to even be listed. Reviews from others on this thread were not helpful due to the fact that they say you can buy lobster direct from here. Not clear on whether this is true yet. We ended up being very successful in all of our seafood needs at Chipman's Wharf. This is where you should go if you're looking for fresh lobster and seafood! My friends restaurant actually gets their crab from here. He wanted to have some crab shells for use in the restaurant. We were allowed to go back to where the ladies were picking crab. What a facility! It was so neat to see them processing the crabs and lobsters. I was really impressed! If you are in the area give them a call and pick up some lobsters or crabs from them. I recently visited Bar Harbor, Maine & tasted their lobsters at a local restaurant. It was so sweet & delicious so I ordered some lobsters to be shipped to CA so my husband & daughter can taste Maine lobsters. The package was delivered as scheduled. I had it delivered at work since all of us are at work on weekdays. As I opened the package maybe an hour after it was delivered, I noticed that 1 of the lobsters is dead. I put the lobsters in the refrigerator as it was on the instruction in the package. I called the company several times & there was only a recording. I decided to leave a message to inform them of the condition of the delivery. Sometime later that afternoon, I figured out how to email the company through their website. At noon today, I received a call from Dorr Lobster. I shared the details of what happened & the lady I was talking to kept on saying that I missed the 1 hour time limit after delivery to open the package & check the condition of the lobsters. I explained to her that I work in health care facility so I could not just stop dealing with my patients to check on my package. I was so disappointed & frustrated with how she made it sound like the lobsters were just left sitting for a long time before I opened the package. There is no question about the quality of the lobsters, I can say they are still the best BUT the customer service is really poor. I may only be one among their many customers but still, I do not appreciate the way she was making it appear that it my was fault that one of the lobsters is dead when there is a "guaranteed live upon deliver" when I placed the order. read more

After receiving my order of precooked lobster meat and two bags of add-on clam chowder, I experienced two problems. Firstly, two of the one pound bags of lobster that I thawed had an off taste of ammonia, which comes from previously thawed and refrozen fish and seafood. The second issue was the cost of the soup. I paid $10,99 for 10 z bag on line and Dorr Lobster's retail card that shipped w/ my order stated soup cost was $5.99 for one bag. I called customer service and spoke w/ Linda. She asked me for the code on the lobster bag and when I went to retreive it she hung up on me. I called her back and after much much defending of her business and my asking for immediate credit, she agreed to have lobster picked up next day. OK. Next day I get a call from Stephanie---a real tiger sitting at the perch ready to be all over me. Picking up the meat did not seem to be an issue but she would not entertain any comments from me about the soup retail. It appeared from the shipping card that had a customer placed their order over the phone the $5.99 soup retail was sound. If a customer placed the soup order over the net like I did it was $10.99. Stephanie would not let me speak and was a buzzsaw of words for me until I asked her to be quiet so I could speak. She hung up before hearing my frustration. So end of story--I still have the tainted lobster. The pickup date was not scheduled by Dorr Lobster as they promised it would be and Dorr Lobster will not answer calls from me. As for the soup price--well---buyer beware of changing prices. In my case a nearly 100% jump between phone and net. Stephanie is tempered and has poor listening skills and must have had success in the past talking down and through any customer complaints till she or the customer hangs up. The week before Christmas I found the Dorr Lobster Company online. I read on their website that you could choose your delivery date, so I went ahead and ordered 10 lobster tails to be delivered on Christmas Eve as a surprise for my husband. Sure enough, the lobster tails arrived right on time! The packaging was great, and the lobster tails were packaged individually in good wrapping. The tails we ate were tender and sweet, and the remaining tails went into our freezer for another meal. I thought the deal for the 10 lobster tails was excellent, plus the shipping was free because the order was over $100. I will definately order from Dorr Lobster again in the future. I hope that we can visit their business personally on one of our next trips to Maine. read more

I ordered lobster from Dorr a few times in the past and they have never disappointed me! They always come in on time and are very alive. People have to understand that the lobsters NEED to be put in the fridge ASAP. It's hard to blame Dorr Lobster if you have a lobster that ends up dying because you pushed your 1 hour time limit. It's unfortunate if you can't get to it in the appropriate time, but you can't blame them for that. Also, the are a small family run business, so if there is't someone to answer the phone immediately that's probably because they are out doing someone else in the business. I know I'll be ordering from them the next time I'm in the market for lobsters. read more

Beware you might not get a live lobster. I ordered 6 three pound lobsters at $55.99 a piece and received 5 live and one dead. They refused to send another one and would only reimburse me $40.00. Not a company I would deal with. The live lobsters were good but this company is not worth taking a chance on. read more

Ordered two live lobsters from Dorr Lobster for my father's birthday for same day delivery, the morning of March 17th. Promised my father he would be eating lobster dinner for his 90th birthday. Order was never shipped. Called them five times the next morning and left two messages. No return call. Filled out contact us form on web site, no response. Finally got them to answer phone late in the afternoon. Person who answered the phone confirmed Dorr Lobster did did not fill order. No apology and no offer to make it right. He offered to refund my money. So my father's lobster dinner for his 90th birthday did not happen. Received email message concerning order refund. Tried to log in to my account and my account now does not exist. Seems someone wants to cover their screw up. Thanks Dorr Lobster,...for nothing. Not impressed. Before retiring a few years ago, my last duty station was Portland, Maine. I learned to absolutely LOVE Maine lobstah and yearn for the fresh, cold water Lobster found in that great state. That said, while I can get live lobster several places, I know what their last week of life has been like in captivity and the taste definitely changes as a live lobster is keep alive in an artificial environment. I have searched the lobster delivery companies on the net, that are located in Maine and finally found one that sells lobster in a variety of options and it is ALL VERY FRESH!. Dorr Lobster Co is family owned, they know the waters, have their own gear to get from trap to your door quickest of any I have used. I only purchase from them, now. Each time, my family has been beyond pleased with their lobster, the packing, the speed of delivery, and the freshness. Nothing like it. We strongly recommend Dorr Lobster as they have excellent communication (via email or phone) and will address your every concern and treat you fairly. Can't say enough good stuff about these folks!!
