Dr Dorough is the only person recommended by anyone i talked to in the Fresno/Clovis area. While he did a good job with the delivery of my son, I have never met a medical provider with worse bedside manner. He is truly one of the rudest people I have ever met and I cried in the car out of frustration after every single prenatal appointment I had (and for anyone who has ever been pregnant you know there are a lot of them). He was rude about my weight gain (literally saying, and I quote, "wow you are really packing on the pounds, aren't you?"), dismissed all of my questions, interrupted me mid-question to answer the questions he thought I was asking (spoiler: it wasn't what I was asking) and I had to learn to advocate for myself more than anyone should have to do with their medical provider. He was rude to his office staff and one time came into my appointment and said, "These people are driving me crazy." He also told me none of the other doctors in his network were anywhere near as good of doctors as he is, but that they would "get the job done" if I happened to go into labor when he wasn't on call. However, I suppose it was lucky that he was on call when I went into labor because the Clovis Community Hospital staff were negligent and I almost didn't get my epidural in time due to nobody checking on me for literal hours while I waited in triage. So luckily Dr Dan used his pompous rudeness for good to be completely unkind to the hospital staff so that something was actually accomplished. We moved out of the state two months after my son was born and the sub-standard care we received both by Dr Dan and the hospital were the last straw for getting us out of the state. It is mind blowing that such a rude human being is not only a practicing PREGNANT LADY doctor, but that he is the only one recommended in the entire county. So I suppose that if you have to give birth in Fresno go with this guy, but just know that he is rude, disrespectful and in a lot of ways just truly the worst. read more

Dr Dan literally save me when I lost twins 14 years ago. Since then he has delivered another son and guided me through menopause. I'm so thankful for him and the years of wonderful care and kindness. I'm going to miss him greatly. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Dan Dorough's for years now, and I am talking 10 + years. Lately, I have been having some abnormal issues. He keeps it frank and to the point. One of my visits a few months ago he had the audacity to say to me that he would rather do a hysterectomy on me than an endometrial ablation because "I will make more money hahaha". Excuse me?? My health should be your number one concern, not how heavy your pocket is. Not to mention, he has not once tried to find out the real cause for my issue...every test we have done has been negative for cancer, fibroids, etc....He just wants to fix the issue and not find the cause for it. It is really bothersome that he would treat someone like this. I wish I could see his brother! read more

+Positives: Front office staff is nice & professional. Wait times are always reasonable. The office is clean. -Negatives: The person I saw there overly addressed a concern I had while completely under addressing a different issue I was having. Minimal tests to address the primary issue were ordered. I got those done and the office never called me back with results, or scheduled a follow up appointment to go over the results to begin with. I got my results informally from the onsite ultrasound tech who was very nice & friendly. The office tried to, instead, give me an appointment for 3 months later with the Dr to discuss reproductive drugs I wasn't even interested in or asking for. Then, the person I saw ordered 2 tests I requested to wait on & wrote something in my file so that insurance would pay for the tests. What was written was completely different than what I was verbally told. I verbally asked to wait on getting the second set of tests done but the person insisted on ordering them. I decided not to schedule the exams and to consult with a different specialist first. But this particular Dr's office kept calling me to insist that I schedule these other exams while not calling me for the results of the tests I did have done. It got so terrible that, at one point, without knowing what I was verbally told & by just reading my file, they called & left me a voicemail telling me I had a mass and needed to get exams done ASAP. I called them back, explained that I didn't have a mass, & to please call me with results of the tests I did have. They finally, about 2 months later, did call me with results & then said that "Dr" (who has never met me in all the years I've been there) really wanted to make sure I'd get my exams done "given my family history & what was found during my annual exam". I cancelled my appointment with Dr to discuss the reproductive drugs I never asked for, & I went to a specialist for the second set of exams. The specialist did not find anything & even mentioned that this Dr's office is known for referring people for every little concern. Needless to say, because I don't want to be told I have something I don't have (especially not regarding potentially cancerous masses) & because I don't want to be given drugs to make babies, I will be making my next appointment with a different Dr somewhere else. This seems like a great office to go to if you want to have babies, or you just had a baby, or you have a baby & want more babies, or you are pregnant and going to have a baby. Basically, go here for anything exclusively-fertility/baby related. If baby-making is not your primary agenda, it's best to go elsewhere. read more

So, you're only as good as your office staff in my opinion. I had an ectopic in January that he did the surgery for as my regular obgyn was out of town. He was great, and I had actually wanted to transfer over to his office. So I called their office, and advised my history, and that I was afraid I may be having another ectopic and as he did the surgery I'd like to start going to him. I was asked for my insurance, no problem. I was met with, "Is this Obamacare. Because we don't take that?" and I said no, it's through my employer. Then I was asked, "Is it Covered California? Because we don't take that.". Again I say no, it's through my employer and I give them the numbers. She's typing, and again asks me, for a THIRD TIME if It's Obamacare or Covered California, because you know, they don't take that. I again say No, it's from my employer, I've had it for years. So she looks me up, and tells me there is nothing until June. I'm like... ya if it's an ectopic pregnancy, I can't wait until June. There is NOTHING sooner? She says... "Well... I may be able to get you in April 15th." I tell her considering the circumstances, it is potentially dangerous to wait that long. I will go elsewhere. SO rude. SO unprofessional. I understand the office is probably being flooded with people who now have insurance, but if I tell you NO, take it the first time. I received no compassion, no patience, and she didn't listen to me at all. It's a shame, because I wanted to go to this doctor, but can't if the office actually will not let me see him. read more

I switched to Dr Dan half way through my pregnancy. If I hadn't switched to him I'm not sure My angel baby would of made it. The only regret I have is not switching earlier. I had a very complex and high risk pregnancy. Dr Dan ran every test possible and did more work in 5 months that my old OB had done in 5 years. He's very thorough, kind, humorous and compassionate. I never once felt rushed. He always took his time with me no matter how busy he was. I have never received better care from any other physician. I would highly recommend him if you have unique health issues because he will do WHATEVER it takes to figure out and fix the problem. He truly cares about his patients and what's in their best interest. read more

Dan was my doctor throughout my pregnancy. I delivered in Clovis Community and they made me feel extremely comfortable. Every time I went to my doctor's visit I had a list of questions for him. He was always very nice and patient with me. He didn't make me feel dumb for questions that I now know were dumb. Unfortunately he didn't deliver my baby but he was there for me before and after the birth with any questions or concerns I had. read more

For many years I have made my appointments with either Rene or Alyson (no longer there) and actually never met Dr. Dorough until, surgery was necessary. I never felt rushed during any appointment with Dr. Dorough. He took time to explain options and procedures that were available to me. He patiently answered all of my questions even though he's probably answered the same questions countless times! read more

Dr Dan Dorough MD and his staff may be my favorite doctor and office of all time. They are VERY thorough, kind, polite, and generous with their time and care. They go above and beyond what any other doctor I've had since I was a kid with a pediatrician. They always help finding referrals and are very friendly with great bedside manner and a fast, friendly, efficient and hardworking staff. They care about their patients and it shows. read more

Dr. Dan is THE BEST hands down! No lies...he cares for his patients, he truly cares and has so much compassion for his patients. You do NOT get this kind of doctor anymore...anywhere. He is a genuine guy and crosses all of his T's and dots all of his I's, he is extremely thorough. Yes, he is a very busy doctor and the wait time is a bit long at times, but omg I'd wait all day long to see him because he is simply the best. And he is only so busy because he's just that good and he gets a lot of patients, and those patients refer their friends to him and he gets even more patients. That's why he is so busy, which I totally understand. My friend referred me to him, for example, and now I'm a loyal patient. I had caught a really bad infection and was admitted into the hospital after I had my 2nd daughter, and he took really good care of me. Always checked on me, and did all he could to get me home to my newborn daughter. Dr. Dan went above and beyond in my eyes and I will always be grateful for him. I very highly recommend him, and will always be a patient of his. read more

Love this office. The staff is so friendly and they always try and accommodate me. I was going in monthly for a few years, dealing with some stuff, and they were always so kind to me. Dr. Dan has always been nice to me. He's very smart and good at what he does. I'm so thankful for their office. I actually switched over from a different Dr a few years ago. The only reason I left the other physician is because the office staff was so horrible and mean to me. I never felt comfortable but I loved the Dr at the other office. Finally, I left. It was a great decision! Dr Dans office staff is so friendly and ALWAYS kind to me. I hate going to the gynecologist. It's worse than the dentist for me BUT, going to a place where everyone is so friendly is calming. I'm just so grateful for this office. I tell them every time I'm there! They're very professional. I'm an RN and I pay great attention to the way things run in an office. The office is very clean and runs efficiently. read more

I was very satisfied with the prompt, personal attention I received from Dr Dorough and his nursing staff. The front desk could be a bit more personable but the rest of the experience was very professional and kind, along with quick follow up to any calls I made. I felt very comfortable with the level of care received here. read more

I've been a patient here for over 15 years. Today....I FINALLY got the confirmation that this office's only concern is 100% about your money and not at all compassionate about a patients needs (front desk)! I brought my 15 yr old daughter in for an emergency appointment. I even came in a day early to fill out all necessary forms & present her insurance card, and speak to the medical assistant. Upon signing in, we were immediately told that her deductible had not been met and that payment in full is due today, and that her appointment will be rescheduled if it cannot be paid. I'm sorry, but I don't have $200 laying around (single Mom here, not to mention that I took the time off to bring her). I've been working in the medical field for over 20 years... and ALL offices I've worked in and been to as a patient, have billed me for anything other than the copay. I just felt very unprepared as a loyal, (and in good standing) patient, who was trying to bring a new patient into this medical establishment. Bad, bad patient care when all your front desk staff's only concern is collecting cash payments up front. read more

I suggest you go somewhere else! I had a lot of problems during my pregnancy that I feel like wouldn't have happened if I had gone to a more focused doctor. Dr. Dorough was very short with me every visit, I was severely neglected as a patient. I was also scared into a cesarean, which there was no medical need for. Just something to save him some time, I suppose. After I finished my pregnancy I vowed to never step foot back in this office!!! I felt like more of a dollar sign than a patient and that's not right, especially during pregnancy! read more

I actually see Dan's brother, Dave Dorough who works in the same office. I have never been happier working with any other doctors office. The staff is organized, you absolutely never wait (unless he has an emergency) and every person in the office has a positive attitude. My last pregnancy ended in stillbirth due to complications and when Dr. Dave heard about this, he was out of town on vacation. He came all the way back so he could be there for my family and I and deliver the baby. With this new pregnancy I trust Dr. Dave and his staff completely. Absolutely 5 stars!!!! Definitely 5 Stars. My midwife was Renee Halstead who is awesome. Love her, But Dorough did my c-section. We had some complications and he was super quick to see me even on very short notice. Got everything worked out. I would do it all over again. read more

Spoke with Dan on the phone, he was unpersonable, rude, uncompassionate, in a hurry, and left me feeling worse than when I originally called. I had a much better experIence with his brother, Dave. I would not recommend Dan if you are wanting a doctor who will make you feel like a valued person and want your concerns addressed in a patient manner. read more

I had a very similar situation as the other two "filtered" reviews. Also a patient of Dan's for about 15 years and he delivered two of my children. Over the years I got used to how un-personable he had become. My last visit I was told to pay for my services, I did, my services ended being extended and past 5:00 p.m., when I came out I asked the nurse where the staff was to pay them, she said "heck they leave at 5:00 on the dot." I figured I'd get the bill. The office "somehow" had an old address (over 3 years prior) and had been sending me bills for 3 months to the wrong address. Due to female issues I was in that office at least twice a year therefore their file should have been updated. I called to confirm an appointment for the next day which I had scheduled months before to discuss and schedule an urgent hysterectomy, they had no appointment because they said I was sent to collections. I told them I had not received a bill, she said they had just sent me the day before I called. I told them this was all in error and that I would pay but could I get an appointment soon, they said not until I paid collections and the soonest I'd get in would be about 2 months, they refused to do anything about it. The billing staff was extremely rude and needless to say I paid the collections bill I finally received and thereafter wrote Dan a letter. His response basically stated that at my last visit I should have paid them within 2 business days, I could have driven it to his office, it was a lousy $150.00 bill. Over 15 years of being a patient and referring many women there, I was disgusted. I love my new ob/gyn, he saved my life twice so far...literally, and they never refused to see me over a small outstanding balance. I feel very let down by his practice. Be leery there are much better ob/gyns in Fresno. read more

I highly recommend Dr Dan and his staff. He is a skilled surgeon, and was great about spending time to educate me about my options. At one point an issue arose and he squeezed me into the schedule within hours. His office is also very well run and everyone is friendly which is a competitive advantage. I am very thankful to Dr Dan and his whole team. read more

Dan took care of me through all four of my pregnancies, and was delivered two of the four. I couldn't have asked for a better OB-GYN, he was/is so wonderful. He always took the time to talk to me and answer any of my questions, he has a GREAT bedside manner. When my son developed jaundice after his birth in 2001 he saw me sitting at Clovis Community outside the exam room--stopped and visited and said hello. When he came back through a few minutes later and saw me still sitting there (as a new Mom I was really really tired by this time, and still very sore) he immediately took action to get us in there to be seen RIGHT THEN and THERE. I remember being so grateful to him, he was always the BEST. I still go to his office for my yearly pap exams, the staff is wonderful too, and Renee Halstead is fantastic! He's been my OB-GYN for about 18 years now, since I was pregnant with my first child. read more

Dr. Dan was my doctor for SIX pregnancies. My first ended in a late miscarriage and then I went on to deliver five babies, all c sections and Dr. Dan delivered them all. All of my pregnancies had complications such as diabetes, pre eclampsia and more. He took both my health and the health of my children very seriously. He might not spend oodles of time in the room, but he is extremely knowledgable and I would NEVER trust anyone else with my life or my babies. One of the patients here said he scared her into a c section. I highly doubt that. He would never so ANYTHING to risk a mom or a fetus. Quite to the contrary. He was always over concerned if anything and consulted with experts when needed. read more

I have been a faithful Dr. Dan Dorough patient for YEARS. He has delivered several of our babies and I always felt very confident in his ability as a doctor. That being said after the experience I had recently, I will NEVER, REPEAT NEVER set foot in that office again. After the birth of my child (which Dr. Dan could not be present for) I saw Dr. Dan for my 6 wk postpartum. I requested an IUD and was scheduled for an appointment to insert the IUD 2 weeks later. (a little irritating that I had to wait that long but I understand they are busy). Upon arrival for my appointment I checked in as usual and waited to be called by receptionist. I was called to the window and told I had an $81.00 copay for the services that day. I happily reached into my purse & whipped out my check book to write a check...As I lifted the carbon copy of my last check I realized I was out of checks. DANG IT! I did however have a $20 dollar bill on me & explained my situation to the receptionist and offered the $20.00 to at least cover some of the days charges. (another pet peeve is EVERYONE in the waiting room is privie to your personal info as you try to explain yourself to the unaccomidating receptionist). I explained that I lived almost 2 hours away and that I do not have any credit cards. I asked if there was ANY way the services could be rendered. She stated she would talk to Dr. Dan and be back with me. In the mean time I ran to my car hoping & praying I had an extra check book somewhere in there. When I returned she informed me that unless I went to an ATM and got $$ that Dr. Dan would not see me. I again explained that I have been a patient of Dr. Dan's for years and have always paid my bills and that I drove almost 2 hours to get there. But it didn't matter. She insisted I reschedule for the next available appoinment which was of course over a month away. I was completely disgusted at this point and left. I know that I should have checked my checkbook before I left my house. It was an honest mistake anyone could have made. It was my mistake, but the the way I was treated was dispecable. I was unable to pay $61.00 (81 mius the 20 cash I offered) and was refused service regardless of my years of good standing as a patient. It is VERY sad that for $61.00, Dr. Dan would refuse service to a patient he has profited from for years (We're talkng thousands of $$). I am DISGUSTED by the thought that it's ALL about the almighty dollar to Dr. Dan and his staff. Bottom line, if you want a good doc with TERRIBLE customer service staff, then this is your man. Completely disheartened by the whole situation, make no mistake, it's not about the patients, it's ALL about the $$$ in this office. read more
